I have one friend, and one friend only,
With each other we are never lonely.
We do everything together,
Like two birds of a feather, forever and ever.
But sometimes he isn't here,
Why does he disappear?
On days when I need him the most,
He turns away like a ghost.
When the sun goes away,
I feel my soul go astray.
That is when my friend will vanish,
But until morning, I will manage.
Tomorrow, we will play again,
Away the sorrow, away the pain.
We will freely run in that grassy meadow,
Just me and my friendly shadow.
This poem describes a lonely young boy (about 6 or 7 years old), who is lonely and has no friends, except his shadow. Him and his shadow do everything together. Unfortunately for the young boy, his shadow is not always there, it is then he feels lonely and longs to have his shadow next to him.Β Β He has learned that his shadow will always return the next day to have fun and play. In those hopes, he can not wait for the morning to come, so he will be able to spend time with his one and only friend.
