May you find peace
As you fall to pieces;
May you find light
In your darkest nights;
I wish for you the love you
Show in your sweetness;
And I wish the world might
Learn of your greatness.
You are a diamond
Still covered in soot,
Yet I see the gleam that
Gives way to the truth.
If I acted selfishly, I might
Chain you around my neck
But that would be a crime,
And serve as a tragic mistake;
Instead, I’ll leave you, free
As I watch from afar,
Mesmerized in your gift
That you share with everything,
In the simplest form
Of a smile.

I'd rather keep you safe
Than steal you.
