there is a river that flows
through the fabric of our being,
vitality within.

a convergence of convulsing capillaries
reinforced with life,
delicate like a spider's web,
glistening like a galaxy of stars;
the shimmering dewdrops that make up the moments we never forget.

there is a maelstrom in my mind,
that stirs the tranquil waters
of my soul.

the river meanders, forever wondering;
where is the sea,
but it's waters cannot swell without
a thousand conjoining trickles.

so the river runs,
its course never set,
a tear on moisture-stricken skin,
never losing momentum.

so run river,
get to the sea.

03.07.14 Storm in a teacup
Gem Elliott Jul 2014
All is well in the World;
except for a
storm in a teacup

                                                   it brewed too long,
                                                a scathing taste of
                                               bitter,
                                              a scalded tongue
                                             leaving
                                            feelings of acerbic
                                           numbness.

misdirection
Gem Elliott Jun 2014
In universal terms*;
                      a thousand lifetimes come & go
                      in the blink of an eye

                                            I overrated the importance of my existence
                                            and now I'm chasing leaves on the breeze.

                                                                  perhaps
         one day the breeze will fail
         and the leaves will sit willingly, still;
         hungry to be examined.

                                    Only (I discover)
                             I was never chasing leaves
                                 Just lost in the wind.

le rêve trompeur
Gem Elliott Oct 2013
my blood runs hot when you're around,
your touch turns my skin to flames.
your voice chills the air and calms my thoughts,
uttering forgotten names.

who could blame a simple boy for loving
so completely and without consideration;
the portrait girl, with lips of red,
who conjured conflagration.

a tale so hopeless did never end so sweet,
as in a dream, said fair lady, rushed him off his feet.
but it is a sad and known truth,
that the night-time show
always ends with darkness.

home
Gem Elliott Oct 2012
a love lost, wondering;
cannot find home where home is,
but finds home where there is none.
A love confused, but truly convinced,
cruelly entangled in a myriad of loose ends.

But where loose ends meet,
acceptance born:
a love lost alone,
has no home,
but is home.

false hope
Gem Elliott Oct 2012
a false hope,
mindless optimism,
delusion.

an unattainable target,
an unachievable goal,
self pity.

a false hope,
misunderstanding,
regret.

love,
or not,
forget.

remember,
repent,
rejuvenate.

forget,
fall,
repeat.

brain scrub my mind,
ev'ry speck
'til there's none to find.
mind please cleanse my soul,
my body
needs you whole.

soul do cleanse my heart,
teach it
love and lust apart.
Clean me whole,
through and through
make my judgment true.

I'd try
Gem Elliott Oct 2012
I'd a poem for you,
if I could.
I'd write one from the heart,
you know I would.

a sealed confession
Gem Elliott Oct 2012
a sealed confession written on the inside of my eyelids,
visible only when wanted to be seen.
when opened, the confession becomes an admission,
what is will then have been.

only you or I may open it,
and only if we please.
let it whisper wind through the branches,
and tell tales among the trees.

may it foresee the future and remember the past,
but let it not change us, to our very last.

the tide
Gem Elliott Oct 2012
Smash my bones against the rocks,
peel my skin away.
Take my matter on the tide;
One thing alone should stay.

The fossils jest and mock my life,
but leave this one part whole.
Their wicked mistress ocean,
can never have my soul.

Her hate and fear know not she,
who's gentle as a pond;
whose surface may be jagged,
is calm down to the ground.

She wants not to break a heart,
just join two together.
She knew now well enough,
to leave them perfect weather.

A salmon tear spawned upstream,
and trickled down my cheek.
An empty promise, a broken dream;
a vow kept too weak.

A salmon tear spawned upstream,
drifted down the creek.
With the crowd, against its will,
nothing left to seek.

An ocean beckoned the new-spawned tear.
a billion drops just like it.
A distant hope that seemed so near,
futile would it be to fight it.

When tears mixed tears ,
from frowns came grins.
Sadness sang for joy,
it sang a hymn, true from within,
tale of girl and boy.

lament me not
Gem Elliott Oct 2012
She sits and is majesty;
her words chiming bones on a breeze
that chills the skin and warms the heart.

She sits within reach,
and yet is unattainable, untouchable.
She tempts, teases, unknowing.

Who dare she be,
that with such profound beauty in her,
is locked like gates wide open.

My arms outstretched cannot reach hers folded,
a helpless struggle for a lost cause.

Then a pulsating moment stops, and breathes a sigh,
never moving on with time.
