Her large eyes stare out
into the darkening red sky,
glowing emerald orbs that
reflect the white hot sparks
that leap off
her quickened breath.

Her mighty form
pauses upon the cliff edge,
her power restrained, for now,
in tight muscles beneath
glistening golden scales.
She is motionless,
But for the rhythm
of her rising chest
and the irritated twitch,
back and forth,
of her tail.

Her sharp, night black talons
****** deep into the dry earth
which desperately drinks in
the few drops of blue blood
that fall from superficial scratches
along her impenetrable hide.

Battered ****** shields
and shattered silver swords
litter the charred ground below her,
among cast aside corpses
of cruel hunters
that thought themselves
mighty, wise and brave.

Who come to prove
themselves
against the wildest of creatures,
but always fail,
underestimating
the mighty mind
behind those immortal eyes.

He has slain the Dragon
It lies unmoving before him
The light slowly fading from its emerald eyes

Draped over his weary shoulders
Is the dragon's fiery tongue
Its blistering stranglehold easing as it dies

Dragon blood of the purest blue
Splattered across his scorched chest
His valiant heart still beating at the speed of light

Alongside his sword and scabbard
His heavy shield lies shattered
caught by a single deadly dragontail swipe

Patches of its skin and thorny scales
Have covered his battered arms with scars
A forever present reminder of this epic night

He bows his head in solemn regret
To be standing here victorious
He had to take this magnificent life
Victory always comes at a price, but survival over adversity is always sweet.
For Brian. My husband. My anchor.

It is a sky of ice scattered on velvet,
spreading its soft, dense blanket
up and to the edges of the universe.
Moon - a mirror for the gods to peer into,
reflecting slices of light that shine.
Treetop fingers write shadowy messages
across the silence of night.
Still as breath held in anticipation,
the night huddles and hovers over all.
Soft winds sing a lullaby to the ears
of all who are awake to hear its tune.
Earth sighs deeply in pleasure
and spins on its stick with rhythm.
Such beauty as this night, wasted
for the lack of eyes to appreciate.
I love night - but live in large city and cannot go out.

you know the value of a word
and can place it with great care
you see colors in a rainbow
others wouldn’t know were there
you can find the silver lining
of the darkest thunder cloud
or make a grown man weep
when he reads your words out loud
you live your life wide open
wear your heart upon your sleeve
give your friends the gift of laughter
and console them when they grieve
you take all the pieces of a life
and use words to make the whole
if you're reading this right now
it means you have a poets soul
There are so many wonderful people and poets on this site, this is my thank you for being awesome poem.

Life is a song
An unwritten poem
Listen to your heartbeat
Then sing along

In the sky of my mind
Echoed the winds of longing
I silenced the noise
And listened to sweet nostalgia
Nostalgia's song tasted like
Honey, tartar and rose petals
Smoke rose from each petal
Forming clouds in the sky of my mind
The winds of longing blew harsh
Each petrous note of nostalgia piercing the clouds
And hence came the downpour
Of suns that set too soon
And suns that never rose
Of moons that never were full
And stars with frozen winks
Of galaxies with uncharted maps
And of rainbows with colours gone rogue
But when all was done, and the downpour abated
The barren ground sparkled
With the suns and moons and stars
And galaxies and rainbows
Which once saddened the sky
And now adorned the ground
The winds settled to a merry tune of serenity
And the sky of my mind smiled at the beauty below.
