Black coffee, cigarettes,
abandoned buildings, old carpet,
autumn days by the river,
winter nights downtown,
shivers.
Nutmeg, and cardamom,
burning leaves, noses numb.
Old leather, aged books,
open fields, horses hooves,
apple orchards, and birthday candles.
I miss all of it.

I really made a mess of this
As I looked into your eyes
You said, "Bury me in fiction
Or give me truth I can't deny"

The truth is all I had was me
And a thousand little lies
I almost wish I told a few
Before you said goodbye
falling autumn leaves
teaches art of letting go
time is the healer.

Fifty-nine unread messages;
my heart, stuck in my throat
as I search for ways to live

I breathe no longer,
this heart beats faint

Thoughts are scattered to the wind
my voice is only ash now
falling gently on to deaf ears
