Brooklyn
She keeps songs
locked away in boxes
like secrets.
She will take them out
like postcards
to help her remember
the feeling of
a different time,
a different person
by her side.
She likes the one
that makes her
eyes close
to see the lights.
She smiles at
the one that
makes her stand
up on tiptoes,
the one that
helps her forget
she doesn’t know
what to do
with her hands.

The tune
will carry her.

Like it did
the times when
voices broke
like a heart.
When instruments’ strings
would snap
and hurt.

Silver heart
“I like smiling in the rain” I say
“Why?” asked the sunny day
“ No one can see my pain”
I say as I sit and smile, my pain dripping off me disguised as this beautifully deadly rain.
Rewrite was edited, used to say
"I say as I sit and smile while my pain is disguised as rai "

Sometimes life just smooths past.
All is set on the perfect course.
Nothing falls in awkward direction.
Humor runs from the corners like honey.
Love twists about with satisfaction.
To be charmed with such days is
To also know the wrong.
Life's trials make the charmed days
More intensely felt.

Polar
We are but moments in time,
Atoms smashed together.
Formed into transient alliance,
Only to part then reform
Into an endless cycle of renewal.

We survive
Creating memories as we go.
Briefly touching and connecting
With others.

In cognizance of this
All meetings have meaning.

As we smash our way through life,
It’s imperative we connect
And make some sparks

Before we fade away...
Slide into the dark.

rain down on me
let it pour
let my skin repel
every icy drop
of water that fell

Let it
blow gusts of wind
let it knock down branches
let my curly hair do dances
in the storm

Let it
burn me, the sun
till I’ve blisters
let them fill
and with my fists, sirs
I’ll pop everyone
as if it bubblegum

Let it
snow, a blooming blizzard
slapping my face
hard as a lizard
billowing gusts of powdery dust
let it climb past my door
I’ll bore a tunnel through it
crawling out the other side
where the ocean meets the sky

Grey
can i tell you a secret?
some days, when the sky is its darkest hue
and the clouds are a light gray-blue
i write poetry.
it's all about you.

Savanna
I collected the parts that people liked
Dug up the roots to see how they grew
And planted them in my own garden
So when you say my garden is beautiful
I say thank you but I know
Because I built it for you

The terrain of your loneliness falls under my hands
soft as cinders in a snuffed fire
We have both burned, in our way
and under my breath
Embers ignite, the soft glow
And incandescent heat of our palms, tenderly met
Lanterns in a grey sea
we light as beacons
For our lost ships
calling them
To safe harbor.
golden passerine
symbol of prosperity
sacred bird you are
