Her hands of seventy years
Teach without saying a word
All those baby’s heads cradled
All of her recipes stirred
Delighting in gardens she’s planted
Her hands bring deliverance
Pure fluidity like a young child
Textured by experience
All the stitches embroidered
All the cake flour sifted
So intricate, seasoned, lovely those
Hands creatively gifted
Precisely she chooses vegetables
So tenderly and knowing
Arranging flowers from her garden
All those seeds she’s still sowing
With hands of seventy years
Assured intention without guessing
That teach me without speaking
Is why I can’t forget the lesson

it came to me as I sat by the sea
"infinitely profound and immeasurable"
how it could take me into it's depths
now I have HP
it is a sea
and I can jump in
and join the others
who are like me
a part of the sea

Well great goodness, where on Earth do I start?
The Garden of Eden  … or the bottom of my heart?

How can I make this as honest and heartfelt as I can?
How would I share with every woman in the world, the emotions of every man?

Yes, we hold them in. It's about pride. It's about standing tough.
But you'd really not have us any other way … you love to polish what's rough.

And we really love you, make no mistake, to you we are forever beholden.
We'll not forget those meals and those band aides and all those clothes gently folden.

You taught us to tie our shoes and look after our sisters and brothers.
And that unless we are standing for something correct, we must always be kind to others.

From you we learned that women are our partners, other halves and mothers-to-be.
Which leads my poem in another direction … as I continue my praises with glee.

Our wives took up where our mothers left off and carry our hearts in their hands.
They made us soup when sick, bore us amazing children and walked beside us in the sand.

They undressed us when drunk, both for fun and when it was needed.
And stood understanding when we failed miserably, as their warnings went blindly unheeded.

No matter our place in failure, glory or fame, they were always standing by our side.
No matter our outfit, five o'clock shadow, even our beer belly …
they always stand there with pride.

And in the brave new age, where we all live, they now do things so amazing.
They race cars, cure diseases, head up companies and set many trails a blazing!

What would we do without these women from our birth to our end of days?
How do we love them, now and forever?
You simply can't count the ways!

when poems die and all words dry on dusty
tongue    when eyes exhausted can no longer
see    when water's song is still and tired
rivers stop their run    when life's been zested
and no juice is left    when every day
is one thing after one more ******* thing
all it takes is one small drop of love
sent by a stranger, friend...perhaps a god

As March blows in
so does new life
new hope
new chances to fulfill dreams
to make them come true.
March 20th the first day of Spring
also known as the Spring Equinox.
One of the two days in the year
that the sun will rise due East
and set due West.
And with the arrival of this date
the days will become sunnier
and new life will start to bloom.
Although for some of us
we may not see it quite yet
after all we could still
get our fair share of snow.
But, March is the promise
that spring is beginning
that warmer brighter days
are ahead of us.
Watching the seasons
especially spring
is a wonderful reminder
of learning to wait for things
to arrive when they are meant to.
After a long and what seemed
like a very cold winter
feeling the warmth
of the sun on my face
through the window
as I stood admiring
the rise of the outside thermometer
it brought a very warm feeling
to my heart.
Early spring is such a beautiful time
but, many times
the beauty is missed
in the longing
for what hasn’t yet arrived.
Rest assure that beauty is just ahead
because that is the promise of spring
new hopes, new chances to
make dreams come true
and Spring, she never disappoints.
We just sometimes
must be patient enough
to let her show
her beautiful self
when she is ready.
Take time to admire the beauty
of early spring
as she slowly stretches
and yawns herself awake
to dazzle us
with new beauty, hopes
dreams and growth
as March blows in….

Inspired by a quote by Rachel Carson

There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature – The assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.
