we are only pieces of ourselves

I taught her how to handle a
Pellet gun tonight.
Now her eye is black from the
Scope, her fake fingernails chipped
From loading,
And the pine tree nearly stripped from
Cones outside my
Livingroom window, where our
Jägermeister
Cups made little rings on my
Brother's Longfellow hardback
Copy.

The night sky is bright blue this
Time of year in Norway.
Sun never really sets.
I looked up at the brightests spots
Beyond the moon, as she took aim
And fired with a subtle
Psstkh.

"So close," she whispered at the
Unwounded summer evening,
And I smelled her lavender hair
And all the warm outsides
As I thought of satellites and
Discoveries, and how moments
Such as this one would
Always matter
More.

We are all merely farts
   On the Great Wind...
No matter how serious life and this journey can be, our children are a gift that allow us to put it all back into perspective... As did my 9 year old son Tyler when he offered this pearl of wisdom. Although funny, it's also true, lol
i climbed the trees
and swung from the branches
i identified the enemy
and assumed a defensive stance
i absorbed their blows
and added them to my collection
i glanced through blood and sweat
and saw it was merely my reflection
She longs for nights
When galaxies appear
In the vast sky
& silence conquers.

While others dream
She found a woken
& lively tranquility.

She identified with
The darkness of the night
And how stars will only
Show themselves upon
What once was mishap
Or a frightening concept,
The dark.
I would lose face
Without hesitation
If it meant
I put a smile on yours
Did you see the moths dancing?
Getting too close to the flame
See them as they burn and fall
Attracted by the bright light
Until the heat clipped their wings

That is like the life we have to lead
Always tempted by the prettiest things
To never understand the danger
Until the time becomes way too late
Finding ourselves falling into obscurity

This is the power of a blood run sun
Admiring the beauty as it shines
But gaze too long and you lose your sight
Then the beauty shall long be lost
So like the poor moth, you will fall
