Valentine
Michael Butler Jun 2019
A shade the simple scent of rose,
A hint of blushing pink.
A smile for which my words compose,
And eyes in which I cannot think.

A silent promise made between,
A thought that goes unspoken.
A glance of you can make me dream,
Although my eyes are open.

A day for which we celebrate,
And one that I call mine.
Although it may come a day late,
You are
My valentine.
Cheesy? Definitely.
But I wrote this for my girlfriend on valentines day, so what do you expect?
I was only able to see her the day after valentines day hence the 'although it may come a day late' line.

I'm fine.
Michael Butler Jun 2019
I am dead scared
Of finding out
This mind I made
Is full of doubt
these fortunes found
I’ll go without
this life I live
I’ve lied about

But me is me
and though I know
I cannot change
I still might grow
And though I cry
I’ve stubbed my toe
in time I’ll heal
and then I’ll go.

For pieces of pieces
that fall out of line
can still be discovered, and nurtured.
I’m fine.
When you've gone through something difficult in your life and you're lucky enough to have people who care about you, you'll find yourself constantly being asked by them how you are. I wrote this when I was trying to convince both them, and myself, that I was fine.

Silk
Michael Butler Jun 2019
The silk beneath my touch is so,
I want it more, the more I know.
The silk I stroke is softer still,
that all I want, I can't fulfill.

The silk that I embrace is so,
I spurn the thought of letting go.
The silk that I hold close is more,
like holding all that I adore.

The silk that wraps you, completely,
it so surrounds you, heavenly.
The silk contains you, such a gift,
with such a sight, my eyes won't drift.

The silk of skin, the silk of you,
the touch of me, what I would do.
So every graze, and kiss thereof,
the silk of life, the silk I love
So this is another piece I wrote while I was with my now ex-girlfriend. It expresses for me the joy felt while showing gentle affection for someone you care deeply for, like a simple stroke of her cheek.

Lavender and Honey
Michael Butler Jun 2019
Thickly glossed upon a lip, such honey pours for me.
The sweetest scent of Lavender, so falls upon your cheek.
Gaze of blue, with shade of white, bore through the heavy clouds.
The thought of you, though gone tonight, is all I am allowed.

A head upon your shoulder, where lies your auburn waves.
A kiss upon your chest, through which my heart conveys.
Lavender and honey, such a scent that makes me shiver.
Lavender and honey, wishing so to hold you nearer.
My now ex-girlfriend used to use a lavender and honey scented shampoo which I was quite fond of . I thought of this poem while we were cuddling one night >_>

A Reckless Question
Michael Butler Jun 2019
A younger man than me had asked
if ever I regret the past.

"Before I answer such a question,
might I make a small suggestion?"
Curiosity at its peak,
the boy waited for me to speak.
"Don't let your regrets go on long
or life, you'll find, will turn out wrong."

"How long have been your worst regrets?"
The boy began to place his bets.

"Slow down child, don't start your betting.
I'll let you know... when I'm done regretting."
