A distance has opened
Between Heart and Soul
Passion and Desire

Now...

Disconnected from
Wants and Needs

Wondering how to
Weave back together
What has been
Torn asunder

Just a long ago,
Your smile would shine just as the sun.
Just a long ago,
Your words were like knives.
Just a long ago,
They were cutting into my vein so sweetly.
Just a long ago ,
I bled deeply for you.
Just a long ago ,
We were sharing secrets under the moonlight.
Our minds intertwined for hours
Just a long ago,
You viciously tore my clothes off,
Making my heart dance to beat of your love .
Polaroids. Ciragette buds. Long drives
Our world . Sedated from everyone else.
Now
Your smile ignited like fire.
Just now
Your eyes glared away into
Unknown Galaxy.
Where are you?
Now ,
I still reach for you ...
Just a long ago,
You were mine ....

.

How did this happen,
amidst words, phrases,
stones skipped on poetic ponds
Not looking for or expecting
a touch to the heart, a caress,
yet it came

I fell, head first into a joy,
a blissful feeling
I had not felt before
You said the same,
wishes made on coins tossed
had finally come true

Holding hands without touching,
kissing over counted miles
and borderlines of snow flurries
We sang together, harmonies,
lyrics of love from our hearts,
melodic compositions formed of dreams

Picked flowers, daisies, tulips
from the gardens of pure affection
blooming all around us
It seemed no walls,
barriers could hold us back
as we ran towards each other

Then appeared a river, wide, deep
A chasm of worry and fear
was flowing across our paths
Now a deluge of falling tears
filling, overflowing its banks
making footing uneasy, difficult

And we sit on opposite sides
staring at each other, reaching
for something that seems so far out of reach
Dark clouds roll in, threatening
but we stay, standing on the muddy shores
wondering what will become of us in this flooding

I shout, “I will swim to you!”
But your eyes are too wet
and your heart is a breaking levee
Diving in anyway I am swept away,
pulled under, unable to breathe, choking
watching you fade in the distance

Hope is gone, fears have overshadowed desires
drowning in what is lost,
trapped in the rapids of disappointment
When a hand grabs me, lifts me, saves me…
I open my eyes now on the other side to see,
it is yours
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet,
And so are you.

But the roses have wilted,
And the violets are dead,
The sugar bowl is empty,
And my wrist are stained red.
I might be over you, but I can’t forget you
Tolerating the pain you left in my heart
Only took months of bottles and packs
I remember the day I said we were through
Saying you will regret us tore me apart
Why would you say that to my face?
That made my whole world collapse
I would much rather be the one you lost
Or a fuzzy memory
Than a regret you wasted so much time on
You’re the reason my cold heart thawed
You helped me up when I was unsteady
Believe me, I fell in love that day
Never knew someone would care so much
I’ll admit I still drunkenly listen to “our song”
He’s right everything seems to mean nothing
I want to hear you sing to me in spanish
And dance with me dreamily
Your arms were home; warm and loving
Well I’m over it, now it’s time for drinks
All poems are love poetry.
Love of language and wordplay;
Love of order and rhyme;
Love of lines and rhythms
     (yes, and capitals and punctuation);
Love of insight;
Love of sharing;
Love of caring;
Love of instruction;
Love of day and night;
Love of stars and moon;
Love of reading and writing.
Yes, even hate poems
Are Love Poems.

i hope everyone knows
it's not because of them,
it has everything to do with
me.
