A few months I haven't called him

At the beck and call at any hour
And the shortest notice
A dial to him has saved many an emergency

Last night a broken female voice
On the other side of the wire
Mumbled he died on May 13

Left her with three daughters
At forty at short notice

The plumber is dead

Now who would clear
My choked wash basin

The plumber is dead
And I've no other number to call

I couldn't see her face
Gauge the faceless sorrow
At the other side of the wire

The plumber is dead

I must find another
And then rejoice
Forgetting the widow's choked voice

Always pay attention
When someone else is speaking
If it didn't mean something to them
They wouldn’t talk about it at all

Always listen closely
For the answers you are seeking,
May be closer than you think
Found in the ramblings of that call

Imagine if you will
A world where everyone cared
Where they leaned ear in intently
Instead of filling our heads with doubt

Maybe we'd all be happier;
Collectively less scared
We could solve all of life's problems
If we just heard everybody out

You see confidence builds greatness
Yet we continue to put each other down
Jealousy and rage keep us from turning the page
Even when the story could teach us something profound
Sooner or later, the trees die, the seas evaporate
Sooner or later, one life ends and another begins
Sooner the sun rises, and later, the sun sets

The sooner love begins, the later it dies

Once in a while, the ice melts and the weather changes
Once in a while, the gun fires, and the target evades
Once, in happiness I felt everlasting, it took a while to change

Once the end is nigh, love will only last a while

Just in case these words fail to reach their purpose
Just in case life is nothing but a passing, but hopeful dream
Just in case death is a journey to a better place

Just listen, and in case you don't reach the end, in time you will smile

Because maybe there's an answer to the mysteries of the world
Because maybe there's a silver lining to every hopeless existence
Because the sun will set later then maybe you can hope to imagine

Maybe, there's more to love than the nightmare that persists

Sooner or later, once in a while you will have happiness everlasting
But just in case; you haven't, because maybe you're not looking
This is a poem that I wrote back in 2010.
I'm surprised by it, and I hope it surprises you, too.

Enjoy!

-

in the darkness far away
chirping songs endlessly play
a nightbird mourns the passing day

with every note his passion bleeds
he's long forgotten what he needs
his mate is dressed in widow's weeds

their sun exploded on the hills
to become a billion stars at will
the summer's heat now winter's chill

how can you sing, O wretched bird?
the sun has died - haven't you heard?

it gave it's ghost without a word

I know this is a rather sad sounding poem but I'm actually in a good mood.
It rained earlier this evening. I'm sitting outside enjoying the cool air. It's getting really late now. Guess it's time for bed.
In a tomb that love forgot
lay a girl that love forgave.
Centuries never left a spot,
and in the tomb, she did behave,

but she tired of waiting there
for the lover, that she desired.
Juliet had forgotten his face,
but, thinking of him, she never tired.

The door to the crypt did crack.
Fools exhumed her there.
All their faces slack;
they couldst naught but stare.

For the light did not consume her;
didst not illuminate, beyond a glance.
Forthwith, they didst entomb her
That shard of flesh left them, askance.
I wrote this after seeing a beautiful digital painting someone created and posted to this illustration page that I follow on Facebook.

It's really beautiful, and poetic in and of itself.
So I wrote a poem for it.
Hopefully, the artist will pair it with her piece, (LOL) because I swear they go so well hand in hand. If you saw the picture, you'd understand!

Enjoy!

P.S. the painting is of a girl in the dark except a solitary beam of light catches a part of her face.
