A dark brown shaved herb
Burns so slowly from the bowl
The smoke rises from
As does my thoughts follow it
I wonder why it is so

The hot water drips
Slowly infuses the dust
Brown to a tone darker
The Smell Permeates the room
A modern elixir from Java

Frightening isn't it?
How quick are we to sink
From thoughts and fears
Even in the unsinkable
Steadiness of the daily grind

A lack of a need
Strikes me like a wave
An overwhelming
Pressure to submit to it
To the soft cotton threads

A cold Winter’s day
A house barren of any life
A single heartbeat
Echos shyly in the air
A fireplace yet to be lit

The light of an ember
The tip of a depleted coal
like a glowing ruby
However, if you touch it
You will remember that it burns

A sun’s warm embrace
Greets me on this empty plain
As I saunter by
Dewed  grass, I take a bite
The sour apple nourishes me
