When Leonard Cohen Met Charlie Daniels, The Devil Went Down to Georgia

~~~
The Devil Went Down to Georgia ¥
https://youtu.be/wBjPAqmnvGA
Charlie Daniels, the country music legend who died July 6, 2020, was part of the 1970 Leonard Cohen tour. (see notes)
This one is a gift to a recovering addict and a poet, for whom that peculiar, par-articulate, addictive passion, thank the Lord, got no cure.
                                                      <£>
two country boys, ok, so different countries, but both intimately
a-cquainted with the Devil, his song & music-making-copious
a-bilities, his other trois backup ***-sin-tants, The Sin Sisters,
a/k/a wine and women and sweet poetry...
now the Devil mostly gets his due, you pay his price twice, in daily
wear ‘n tear on body and soul, always trying to keep one step ahead,
taking his best, sometimes leaving the rest, but ha! not always cause sometimes a...
bargain needs keeping, gotta keep your word honest, still if you can find a wile e coyote-wriggle-way to be a tad faster, keep them ten  fingers crisscrossed, you might steal a tune or three, before you chanter la finale, sing/pay the last installment...
now these boys were multilingual, one spoke french, the other, southern, but two-gether, they could harmonize the Lord’s Prayer on a banjo, fiddle and a guitar, in une langue ancienne#, formerly spoke in those United States and Canada, now only in the heavens above...
cannot truthful say I ever saw them play on the same stage, no matter,
cause the parallels are clear as a night sky starry moon, the stories they told, in lyrical verse, different cuzins, slightly incestuous, and
infectious too, cause you catch yourself singing redneck in a foreign
language and you’re liking the way women looking at the big star on
a tour bus...
now the devil wanted these bad boys real bad in his pantheon, went
down to Georgia and back up to Montréal au paradis, said to them “no more diddling, just fiddling and singing, time to make that finale payment, principal and interest, come to collect my country boys  and all what they got left...alors allons en enfer mes bébés..”##
now the sounds they made was just too good, the Lord heard it, it was like Picasso painting the sky, and came to collect Charlie yesterday, (07/06/20), Leonard had come up earlier, and if you need to learn how this story ends, well, there’s a poem listed down below avec tous les détails.
but as my straight laced pappy, use to say in his German accented english, in his morning suit, striped pants and Homburg hat, all’s well that don’t end in hell
or something like that anyway.
# in an ancient tongue
## ok then let’s go to hell, my babies
“He [Leonard Cohen] spoke in poetic ways and was able to communicate with people who had never lived in that world, like myself, and had never been exposed to that side of things…I saw another whole side of music that I had never seen, and I had so much respect for Leonard’s creativity, unique thoughts, the way his mind works. I learned a lot. You know what we do is the sum total of what we’ve done, actually. I was glad to be exposed to that feel, to that thing.”.  Charlie Daniels
¥ “ The Devil went down to Georgia. He was lookin' for a soul to steal.
He was in a bind 'cause he was way behind and he was willing to make a deal
When he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot.
And the Devil jumped upon a hickory stump and said, "Boy, let me tell you what."
"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player, too.
And if you'd care to take a dare I'll make a bet with you.
Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give the Devil his due.
I'll bet a fiddle of gold against your soul 'cause I think I'm better than you."
The boy said, "My name's Johnny, and it might be a sin,
But I'll take your bet; you're gonna regret 'cause I'm the best there's ever been."
Jack Torrance Apr 2018
You’ve already taken,
all that I had.
My ambition, my drive,
even my dreams have turned bad.
I can’t keep doing this,
you're killing me ya know.
It took a long time to realize,
I was out of control.
I thought you were helping,
at first it was fun.
You helped me relax,
but I have to be done.
Some days I don’t miss you,
and others it’s hell.
I wish I could forget you,
but I miss your smell.
How can you be so seductive,
and dangerous too?
And why don’t I seem normal,
unless I have you?
Today is bad,
I need you I think.
My brain won’t shut up,
and sanity’s on the brink.
You intoxicate me,
you literally do.
I’m wasting away though,
and that’s literal too.
So please stay away,
and get out of my head.
Let me live my life,
without so much dread.
Today’s a bad day,
I’ll try to be strong.
I think I can do it,
but I don’t know for how long.
The Trumpoet Mar 2018
I must beg your forgiveness up front for this verse.
I don't want to be ****** or rude or perverse,
but all over the world, things are going oh so wrong,
and it's due, in large part, to the President's ****!
Some leaders have brains and they lead with their mind.
Some lead from the heart and are thoughtful and kind.
But President Trump, he shall reign and shall rule.
Being led from below by his shriveled old tool.
You can tell by the way that Trump likes to abuse
women like they are objects to conquer and use.
Trump surely likes weapons, strongmen and dictators.
Trump labels all challengers liars and haters.
It is this sort of strutting, denial and attacking
that comes from a man who is seriously lacking
in confidence and a true manly demeanor,
and to compensate, Trump is obsessed with his wiener!
Now, I don't want to ridicule, criticize, heckle
the importance and worth of every man's schmekel,
but it's rather perverse and off base and quite sick,
when you turn off your brain and just follow your ****.
It just makes Trump so subject to manipulations
when he's flattered and aided by unfriendly nations.
Through his payoffs to hide his betrayals and ******,
Trump's Johnson has led him to such Stormy seas!
When he calls out Bill Clinton for his cheating ways,
the hypocrisy never shall cease to amaze!
All the cover-ups prove him a liar and a fake -
A pathetic, small slave to his small trouser snake.
Now I hope in your heart some forgiveness you'll find
for me planting these images into your mind.
And let us all hope that it will not be long
'til the world's ruled no more by the President's ****.
He is who he is
Someone great indeed
Although he doesn’t know it
I’m here to show him
You see
He seems really ordinary
But what I’ve read is extra- ordinary
You see his quite plain
Not always sane
Sometimes he can even be lame
Its really a shame
So he wrote this book
I then took a look
Got to know him better
Inside a few letters
His pages tells a story
Of God and his Glory
He met a young lady
And fell madly in love
She was what he wanted
And he was he she needed
All seemed fine
But there were to many lies
The bad elements of this world
Is the story he told
A girl she was
With many scars
Hatred and pain
With nothing to gain
He kissed her tears
For many, many years
And all that time
Her life was a lie
He never rejected
Always excepted
Through the Grace of God
He was able to start
Not once did he stop
even when times were tough
And when the going got rough
And she needed stuff
He stood his ground
And eventually found
She was bruised
And abused
A journey she attained
A Journey he obtained
Together making it a life
Worth writing about
His no super hero
Just a religious kind of guy
Making a difference in others lives
Only taking one step at a time
So I’ve come to know
His shared quite a lot
I’m hoping our journey
Never has to stop
But the time will come
When it’s all done
In those few pages
I was won
I’ve learnt a lot
I’ve cried a lot too
There was a lot of ****
But that seemed real
You taught me a lesson
Of love and pain
How to guard my heart
From hatred and shame
I cannot begin to thank you
For all you have done
You’ve change my life
In a short space of time
To be a better person
Inside and out
Your book is worth reading
So please start believing
Soon will come the time
Believe me I done lie
With a friend such as you
Thank you my friend,
cos it's worth reading,
cos it's also rhythmic,
ka boom boom bomb
No thank you my friend
For as you said
Stop writing in a pad
Rather post it on the net
You've giving me reason
And purpose in life
Through A Broken Reed
I was able to see
My lives worth living
And my days are few
So I'm glad that I got
to spend them with
Your book is the reason
I've come this far
I feel inspired
To do something great
I once was bruised
And broken too
But through the virtues
God lend me to you
You taught me love
You taught me patience
You taught me never to give up
And even when I felt so down
You help me turn
My frown upside down
I cannot thank you
And your book
I'm glad God lead me
And I got to take a look.
We Are A Broken Generation no longer Bruised by Our Own Devices but BROKEN...
