You and I were the tree and the vine,
I was yours and you were mine.
I often felt that I was the tree,
for all the roots that came under me.
You were the vine, beautiful and light;
I loved you best for never clinging too tight.
You said that all along it was I who clung,
and then and there something died where I hung.
This tree of mine had changed its leaves,
and grown contempt within its eaves.
And I, the vine and parasite
was bid a prompt and cold goodnight.
By the time I fell to the forest floor,
life as I knew it was no more.
How strange it is of life
to love with no love in turn
How strange it is of life
that a cold shoulder can burn
How strange it is of life
that you bring a tear to my eye
How strange it is of life
that you let me pass you by
Have I lost you-
Am I incomparable
to another loving soul?

Please, lover of mine-
Where did you go?

This death is seeding
itself, in my garden-
and I haven't half
a mind to reap what I sow

Please, lover of mine-
Where have you gone?

Rest is dwindling into
deprivation
Evading my lofty sense
of observation

Do you love another so-
Where did you go?

I need you-
I must know.

...
Forgive me if I fade away
Even though
You've been begging me to stay
I just don't see the use
It's better this way.
I'm aching for your taste against my bottom lip
I'm reaching for your warmth between my fingertips
I'm dying to inhale your harsh breath
I inject my stress into you at two in the morning
You morph it into a light gray cloud
and I watch as the sky dissolves it
"Nothing to lose"
The most dangerous line I ever said
The first time I bit the filter
I bit the bullet

Cigarette,
You had me the first time you melted my headache
Into a light & pleasant dizziness that billowed out over the concrete
On my back porch

Cigarette,
I feel your hands tightening their grip over my lungs
I feel you swallowing the air inside of my chest

Cigarette,
I feel you all around me
& I resent you
I resent you now
But I'll come crawling back
Back for more
He looks from afar
ever searching her face
He can't find her anywhere
in this crowded place

Forever he'll wait
longing to feel her embrace
So cold a shoulder
So broken a tune

Will he ever know?
He's too blind to see
her ever aching need
doesn't belong to thee

She's already spoken for
to one of another
I don't think he knows
She carries a lover

He silently waits
Slowly
She dissipates

Oh time, what are you but a rhyme.
We all seek to find.
