Fashion designers love foraging through the antique markets of Clignancourt in Paris and Portobello Road and Alfie’s Antiques markets in London snuffling out vintage pieces for inspiration. The flurry of romantic Victoriana on the catwalks for autumn can clearly be blamed on this obsession.

There has been an undercurrent of reserved, covered-up fashion ever since Pierpaolo Piccioli and his former co-designer Maria Grazia Chiuri introduced a more demure aesthetic to Valentino five years ago. Longer skirts, prim higher necklines and covered arms have become the slow trend of recent seasons creating a hyper-feminine look.

Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy and Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen have long been beguiled by the Gothic romanticism of Victorian fashion with their use of corsetry and dark dramatic lace and velvet for eveningwear.

In fact, London-based vintage fashion dealer Virginia Bates admits she doesn’t remember there ever being a time when Gothic Victoriana didn’t feature in at least one designer’s collection. “The fascination with the romantics, poets, artists and even horror [classics and films] give designers a great source of inspiration,” she says. “It’s an irresistible era.”

Certainly a lot of it has appeared on the catwalks this season at McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Burberry (shown only a month ago in the see-now, buy-now collection), Simone Rocha, Preen, Bora Aksu and Temperley London, as well as at smaller brands such as Alessandra Rich, Three Floor created by Yvonne Hoang and A.W.A.K.E.

There were dark distressed Linton tweeds, unravelling knits and black tulle in Simone Rocha’s autumn collection. Rocha was pregnant when she started designing it and was inspired by Victorian dress and motherhood, in particular the nightgowns and matrons.

“All the wrapping and swaddling of babies,” she says, before elaborating on how “the Victorian ideals of properness were made perverse with the conservative and covered-up pieces contrasted by the sheer and embroidered fabrics.”These gauzy vaporous fabrics succeeded in making her eerily romantic silhouette look rather contemporary and daring.

Subversion is key to making such a prim and proper period in fashion history modern and relevant for women today. Marc Jacobs, for instance mixed long Victorian coats, ballooning crinolines and crochet doily collars with sweatshirt tops and laser-cut leather for skirts and jackets together with some scary Goth horror make-up. Nothing is, or should be literal.

As Justin Thornton of Preen says “we love the Victorians, the laces and the white shirts, but it is the vintage pieces rather than the era that inspire us”. His partner Thea Bregazzi has collected aristocratic laces and ruffly vintage shirts from Portobello Road market for as long as he has known her and these frequently find their way into their collections, “but linings would be ripped, garments will have holes in them – it is a deconstructed look”.Virginia Bates once owned a famous vintage fashion emporium in Holland Park with a client list including the biggest names in fashion from John Galliano to Donna Karan and Naomi Campbell. Now she only works with private clients and designers and they, especially, she says were looking for genuine Victorian pieces when planning their autumn collections.

“A black fitted jacket with inserts of handmade lace [that is] embellished with crystal and jet beads, ***** and silk lined ... How exciting and inspiring is that? Silk and fine lawn shirts, soft and flowing with ruffles. Don’t we all want to wear one and live the dream?”

Thankfully a few designers do right now, and there were lots of heavenly creatures in fragile asymmetric lace dresses toughened up with leather corsetry at Alexander McQueen, and richly coloured swishy dresses at Bora Aksu. While Christopher Bailey cherry-picked the centuries in his Burberry collection, lighting upon frilled white cotton shirts, nipped in jackets and military capes from the Victorian era. Given that Victoria reigned for more than 60 years there is a lot of history for designers to plunder, so this will not be the last we will see it.Read more at:http://www.marieaustralia.com/short-formal-dresses | www.marieaustralia.com/red-carpet-celebrity-dresses

Daisy Lowe‘s body positivity and refusal to bow to fashion industry pressures have cemented her place as one of Britain’s hottest exports.

From international catwalks to Pirelli calendars, the 27-year-old’s career in front of the camera has gone from strength to strength - all because she’s unapologetically herself.

To celebrate her latest endeavour - a partnership with lingerie brand Triumph UK - the model sat down with The Huffington Post UK to let us in on her secrets.

What does having a positive body image mean to you?

Being comfortable in your own skin, embracing all your flaws and accepting that you are who you are.

Being individual is a beautiful thing.

Where does your confidence come from?

It’s definitely something any person living in today’s society has to learn and grow up to achieve. I’m still working on it on a daily basis.

Everything that I put into my body makes a difference. How much I work out makes a difference. Surrounding myself with people I can laugh a lot with and around whom I can be 100% myself.

What advice would you give to those struggling with self-image?

Love the parts of you that you don’t enjoy so much and be kind to yourself - that’s something that I have to constantly remind myself to do. Go and do something that inspires you or makes you happy.

How do you banish self doubt on bad days?

Meditation and mindfulness helps. Having a check-in with yourself and trying really hard to be present.

We can look outside ourselves and think about what other people are doing, -especially with social media - but if you can try your best in the exact moment that’s all that matters, because that’s all that really exists.

What would you like to see change in the fashion industry?

There’s a lot more room for variation as far as models go - we should be promoting that all shapes, sizes and ethnicities are beautiful.

It would be lovely for plus size models not to be called ‘plus size’ - they’re being used for the same jobs. We’re all just models - wearing beautiful clothes that make people feel good about themselves and helping designers to sell their creations. I’d love to see more ‘in-between’ size models too.

How do you decide what to wear in the morning?

The darker and greyer the world is outside, the more I wear bright colours - as long as you’re sunny in yourself! I’m such a creature of comfort – I’m a huge fan of pulling on a pair of stretchy comfy jeans (Lowe swears by high-waisted styles by Paige, Frame and J Brand) and I love a bit of cashmere.

Jewellery wise, I always wear Crystal necklaces or chains by Loquet. I’m also a fan of a cute tea dress and ballet shoes. I love that Brigitte Bardot/Jane Birkin 60s/70s vibe mixed up with a bit of 90s grunge.

What are your favourite shopping spots?

Lark Vintage in Somerset is amazing, and in London I love Mairead Lewin Vintage. Those are top secret - I never usually tell anyone those.

Brand wise, I love James Perse, Cocoa Cashmere, Erdem, Simone Rocha and Ganni - I have a leather jacket from there I haven’t taken off for a year. I also have a troubling Saint Laurent addiction.

Talk me through your daily skincare routine.

I love the P50 W Lotion by Biologique Recherche, it’s done absolute wonders for my skin and makes it much more clear.

I also swear by the Crème de la Mer Genaissance de la Mer serum, moisturising soft cream and eye concentrate.

For my body, I use Aesop A Rose By Any Other Name cleanser and Balance Me for their luxurious moisturisers and body oils made with natural ingredients.

What are your makeup bag staples?

Tom Ford is a go-to. I use the Traceless Perfecting Foundation, which has SPF, and the concealing pen around my nose and eyes.

I like to keep my makeup really simple, so I’ll use the Laura Mercier Paint Wash liquid lip colour in petal pink on both my lips and cheeks.

For eyes, I swear by Tom Ford Waterproof Extreme Mascara and Kevin Aucoin eyelash curlers.

What’s the best tip you’ve picked up from a makeup artist?

My makeup artist would **** me if I ever slept in my makeup. Another great tip is to make sure you conceal around your nose. If your nose is red it makes your whole complexion look uneven.

Also, always apply lipstick all the way into the corners of your mouth to continue the line.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve done in the name of beauty?

When I was younger I used to make these weird DIY face masks with my friends. We made one with mashed banana, avocado, honey and peanut butter. Peanut butter on active teenage skin was not the best idea.

Any other beauty secrets you can let us in on?

My facialist Arezoo Kaviani is amazing. She’s a real healer at heart. She does a deep cleansing ****** with extraction and LED light therapy.

I also tried a collagen wave ****** recently, which was great.Read more at:http://www.marieaustralia.com | www.marieaustralia.com/formal-dresses

I can’t say I’ve never thought of committing violence.
Hell, when my ex-wife cheated, it occurred to me
And I can’t say that I have never hit another
I’ve been a kid

Born into this world, we were called to live

Not knowing what to do with ourselves

Going about with every breath drawn in

We were placed in different shelves

Experiencing our own trial and strife

Amidst this difference,  we were united by one goal

Appointed to take that certain path

Everyone unsure

About facing the world’s wrath

But do we ever find the cure?

We are only students

Day breaks but night falls

Shadows (sins) are present everywhere

In every area of our lives, our vitality.

Shadows of laziness, insult, lust

Greed, and gluttony

Ships sail, but how many land?

New Years’ resolution,

Faith goals that came with tenacity

Spirit willing, but flesh weak.

Revealing vulnerability

Forever drowning in the ocean

Of hate and insecurity

Forever craving the essence

Of peace and serenity

And tranquility

Endlessly quarreling

About the littlest things

And controversies

Talking Apple vs Samsung vs Sony

How unnecessary!

We are only students.

As the seasons brush by

And each day slips past

We start to accept

God has no purpose and plan for me...

Thoughts of

will I ever get into a university?
or
do I have a bright future ahead me?

That is the Beauty of God.

No matter how many times you have sinned against Him

how many times you have ran away

He still say’s “Come to Me those who are burdened and weary”

from Mrs. Rocha to Ms. Linny,

Teachers that train and Mold

the world changers of the 21st century

Jeremiah 29:11: “ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Deuteronomy 31:16
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Those two verses has something in common

put your trust in Him, You will surely never come to ruin!

We are students.

prepared to take on every single challenge

to expand the kingdom

here on earth

future teachers

future Preachers

future servant leaders of this nation!

STAND UP!

for we are not just students but ambassadors

ambassadors of Christ

called to reach out

and change the system of sin!

to be the salt and light and be the very foundation,

for the coming generation and the next

so they may no longer see to hesitation

hesitation to do what is good,

and what is pleasing,

hesitation to to serve the King!

cause for every slumber there is an Awakening!

so wake up from this blasted dream,

and let Him wipe away every spec of sin!

for He is the only one!

So go forth! go forth and be leaders,

leaders that will lead the lost through the darkness that is upon them.

So that the Father can save them.

So He Can fix them!

Chapel might end today, but never stop praising Him!
This is the last spoken word poem that we wrote for our school wide chapel service, with the help of Jeremy Carlos and TJ Castillion.
This will be our letter for the coming batch of Grade 11 SY2014-2015
For as we leave the compounds of Victory Christian International School,
They will be the next leaders. Thank you for the wonderful 4 years of High School Guys! I am blessed that God put you guys in my life, Thank you...
Ya está guardado en la trena
Tu querido Escarramán,
Que unos alfileres vivos
Me prendieron sin pensar.
Andaba a caza de gangas,
Y grillos vine a cazar,
Que en mí cantan como en haza
Las noches de por San Juan.
Entrándome en la bayuca,
Llegándome a remojar
Cierta pendencia mosquito,
Que se ahogó en vino y pan,
Al trago sesenta y nueve,
Que apenas dije «Allá va»,
Me trajeron en volandas
Por medio de la Ciudad.
Como al ánima del sastre
Suelen los diablos llevar,
Iba en poder de corchetes
Tu desdichado jayán.
Al momento me embolsaron
Para más seguridad
En el calabozo fuerte
Donde los Godos están.
Hallé dentro a Cardeñoso,
Hombre de buena verdad,
Manco de tocar las cuerdas
Donde no quiso cantar.
Remolón fue hecho cuenta
De la sarta de la Mar,
Porque desabrigó a cuatro
De noche en el Arenal.
Su amiga la Coscolina
Se acogió con Cañamar,
Aquel que sin ser San Pedro,
Tiene llave universal.
Lobrezno está en la Capilla.
Dicen que le colgarán,
Sin ser día de su Santo,
Que es muy bellaca señal.
Sobre el pagar la patente
Nos venimos a encontrar
Yo y Perotudo el de Burgos:
Acabóse la amistad.
Hizo en mi cabeza tantos
Un jarro que fue orinal,
Y yo con medio cuchillo
Le trinché medio quijar.
Supiéronlo los señores
Que se lo dijo el Guardián,
Gran saludador de culpas,
Un fuelle de Satanás.
Y otra mañana a las once,
Víspera de San Millán,
Con chilladores delante
Y envaramiento detrás,
A espaldas vueltas me dieron
El usado centenar,
Que sobre los recibidos
Son ochocientos y más.
Fui de buen aire a caballo,
La espalda de par en par,
Cara como del que prueba
Cosa que le sabe mal;
Inclinada la cabeza
A Monseñor Cardenal;
Que el rebenque sin ser Papa,
Cría por su potestad.
A puras pencas se han vuelto
Cardo mis espaldas ya,
Por eso me hago de pencas
En el decir y el obrar.
Agridulce fue la mano,
Hubo azote garrafal,
El asno era una tortuga,
No se podia menear.
Sólo lo que tenía bueno
Ser mayor que un Dromedal,
Pues me vieron en Sevilla
Los moros de Mostagán.
No hubo en todos los ciento
Azote que echar a mal;
Pero a traición me los dieron:
No ne pueden agraviar.
Porque el pregón se entendiera
Con voz de más claridad,
Trajeron por pregonero
Las Sirenas de la Mar.
Envíanme por diez años
¡Sabe Dios quién los verá!
A que, dándola de palos,
Agravie toda la Mar.
Para batidor del agua
Dicen que me llevarán,
Y a ser de tanta sardina
Sacudidor y batán.
Si tienes honra, la Méndez,
Si me tienes voluntad,
Forzosa ocasión es ésta
En que lo puedes mostrar.
Contribúyeme con algo,
Pues es mi necesidad
Tal, que tomo del verdugo
Los jubones que me da;
Que tiempo vendrá, la Méndez,
Que alegre te alabarás
Que a Escarramán por tu causa
Le añudaron el tragar.
A la Pava del cercado,
A la Chirinos, Guzmán,
A la Zolla y a la Rocha,
A la Luisa y la Cerdán,
A Mama, y a Taita el viejo,
Que en la guarda vuestra están,
Y a toda la gurullada
Mis encomiendas darás.
Fecha en Sevilla, a los ciento
De este mes que corre ya,
El menor de tus Rufianes
Y el mayor de los de acá.

Tentei me sentar na mesma cadeira,
Que alguém ao acaso sem amor deixou...
Optei por me sentar na rocha granitica
Que o acaso  abandonou. .

Eu a Deus ligado tento amar a cadeira

E eu sou o presente, futuro e passado.

Da menina que nasceu azul,

Conto-te esta breve história.

Sei que foi em dia de sol…

Até o céu

Se abriu no espaço,

Até ele

Se manchou de glória.

Por entre os sete mares

Se espalharam; Aí e

Em todos os lugares,

Violentas ondas

em sua memória.

Assim nasceu,

Tão alegre…

Uma bela tela…

Era o que ela

Me parecia.

Com o seu cheiro

A maresia,

Amarela e só de alma.

Assim cresceu,

Tão sonhadora…

Rodava o universo

Na sua palma.

E ao passar, todos lhe diziam

“Não vás!”.

Os desassossegados,

Esses faziam tudo aquilo que podiam

Porque sentimento fútil

Não a satisfaz.

Enjaulados,

Os homens tremiam!

Piores que loucos

Repetiam

“Olha o diabo que a moça traz!”.

Mas ela nem ouvia…

Sonhava, e não caía;

Voava; pela sua própria asa.

Como o verde, florescia

Uma flor dentro de mim.

E assim ela crescia,

Fosse de noite; fosse de dia;

Não se molhava em água rasa.

Menina nobre,

De ti brotou

Tanta bondade

Que se espalhou.

Ofereceste-a! A quem passava.

Nem um cêntimo

Sequer cobrou.

Menina pura,

Que se isolava,

Nunca tirava

O pé da estrada.

E mais azul ela ficou.

Com aparências?

Não se importava.

Tudo o que tinha, ela doou.

Manteve a essência,

Essa brilhava,

Tornou-se estrela

Que nunca apagou.

Tanto azul!

Que a matava…

Então outra cor ela criou.

Em balanço perfeito

Com a água

Nasceu uma cor

Que a transformou.

Agora,

Menina de fogo,

Apaixonada!

E avermelhada ela ficou.

O azul é triste,

E o vermelho engana,

Então a Terra ela explorou.

Num vulcão ardia

A sua gémea-chama

Aquela cor vermelha

Que a fascinou.

Forjou-se; de rocha vulcânica,

E só mais forte isso a tornou.

Lá conheceu

A bela cigana,

Deusa da montanha,

Que a salvou.

Juntou todo o amor

Que a inspirava

E à raça humana regressou.

Menina ingénua!

Chora desolada;

Porque o humano a roubou.

Cor azul; e avermelhada,

Mas que bonito roxo

Que dela jorrou.

Menina pura! destroçada,

Pela ganância de quem não vê nada…

Foi ao mundo que se entregou.

Assim espelhava; como ouro,

A sua pequena alma dourada

Que deu início a esta balada.

Ah!...

É de ti que falo, minha amada,

O meu maior tesouro.

Eterna flecha em mim marcada,

Amor real e duradouro.

Mas o humano triste; insaciado

Que antes de mim a encontrou!

Que nem por ela dar de graça…

Nem assim ele a poupou!

Quis o tesouro de mão beijada,

E pouco ou nada se esforçou.

Daqui veio a desgraça,

De quem esta história narrou.

Foi à noite, na madrugada…

Como um cobarde! Que a apanhou.

Foi arrogância ou maldade?

Qual o motivo que o levou?!

A devorar pela calada

O coração puro

Da minha menina aprisionada

Que nunca mais se recuperou.

A menina ri alto;

Gargalhadas loucas ao vento;

Ali encostada, envolta em tormento,

Segura o peito; completamente esvaziada

por dentro.

E o desumano,

Que fez o assalto,

Vira cinza; não sobra nada.

Escorrem-me as lágrimas pela cara…

Rios de tom arroxeado.

Menina azul, vermelha e rara

Peço-lhe: “Fica! Só mais um bocado”.

Ela ouve-me; e sorri.

Existe afinal alguém que a ama!

Diz-me: “Todos os perigos

Que corri,

Todo o amor

Que ofereci,

É o que me torna

Envolvem as pessoas arrombadas.”

Ah!...

Afinal, foi nesta Terra

Onde descobri

Que quem não morre,

Sempre quebra.

Pois o humano; ser desgraçado;

Lembra-te! Do nosso tom arroxeado,

Do céu, da montanha e do mar.

Olha sempre à tua volta,

Eu estou em todo o lugar.

Que me vejas! Por entre a bruma,

A passar pelo rochedo.

A deixar na praia a minha espuma…

Será esse o nosso segredo.

Ao teu ouvido, eu vou soprar.

Exatamente do meu jeito.

E ao teu ouvido, eu vou falar

Como te fala o búzio

Que carregas ao peito.

Numa linguagem única, por nós escrita,

Escrevo-te um poema; e está perfeito.

Ouve o silêncio quando me quiseres chamar

Naquele exato momento,

E o desespero te abraçar;

Não é porque estou morta,

Inspira-me no vento;

Apesar do meu corpo morto estar.

É que a minha alma insurreta,

Que pela curiosidade se desperta,

Decidiu que uma volta ela queria dar.

Mas é no teu peito, minha poeta,

O lugar! Onde dorme a tua alma

Também inquieta.

A casa, a doce casa,

A que ela decide sempre regressar.

Como a andorinha,

Que carrega a primavera

Na sua pequena asa,

Assim, para ti, eu vou chegar.

Ouve o som do meu cantar,

The name rhymes with Jo
I think, she needs to turn on the radio
Find something interesting in his bio
Maybe, even get inspirations from his photo

The name rhymes with Zack Dela Rocha
His last name rhymes with my cafe mocha
Can't say much but he likes music
Oh, did I not mention...
He likes listening to Asking Alexandria

I'm a planner, he's an improviser
I say, "Hey, Monday!", he says, "Bye, Monday!"
I sleep, he watches...
I watched, "The Outlaw King",
He read its previews and synopses
Opposites, ironies
Oh, please! **** these inspirations!

Some days, poems come easy
A lot of times, they get unfinished, left out in the open
