Children ask the most funny things
and you better give the answer a think,
you're sure to hear it more then twice.
Said yes there were plenty of times
when being scared was on the line,
I can recall a time or two.
There was the time ,way back before you,
I was scared of my old, dark room
but I had to learn to sleep there by myself.
The time your Aunt Jo fell out of that tree,
I was so scared I got down on my knees,
asked the Good Lord to help her heal.
The time I was sent to do somethings
the good folks here did'nt know where I went,
till they all read about it and saw it on the news.
Course I was scared when I Asked your MawMaw
for her hand,
did'nt know if she would take a man
like your PawPaw was back then.
Remember how my hands all shook,
the day they brought your Mama in the room,
so tiny and full of lifes demands.
Yes, Little Tink, I've been scared a time or two.
I was beyond scared when you came along,
it had been all so long,
since we had a little tike like you in the house.
So I guess when I talk to to you of being scared,
well, PawPaw knows what he's talking about.

A loaf of bread from the Piggly Wiggly
A quart of milk because MawMaw forgot
A Coke and a Mickey Mouse funnybook
A water pistol and Eskimo Pies

A pack of PawPaw’s brand of cigarettes
So he can watch his Yankees this afternoon
On the Sylvania with the rabbit ears
In gloriously static-y black-and-white

Plays called by Dizzy Dean and PeeWee Reese
In our childhood world, forever at peace

We've done the battle of the toys, cleaned up the crayolla mess,
Mawmaw won't see the artwork on the wall and that high heel won't be missed.
The dog has finally setttled down, the baby doll dress was a close fit,
it's time to run the bubble bath and try a night of rest.
Well half a bottle of supper bubbles and four soaked toilet rolls,
we finally get the  nightgown and powder on the nose.
There she is , so peaceful now,  a little angel
don't you think?
Now how did my car key keys end up in the bathroom sink?

Mawmaw Sez...

wash your hands before every meal
and don't forget to say grace
no elbows on the table
or I'll put you in your place

sit up straight and use your manners
and never follow the crowd
learn these lessons quickly
and of that I will be proud

always listen politely
don't chew your food like a cow
after you finish all your asparagus
it is then you can take a bow

be nice to the neighbors when you can
and help old ladies across the street
before you walk into my house
remember to wipe your feet
Maw Maw Sez Jun 2016
always use your manners
even when you're home
nothing wrong with etiquette
where ever you may roam

please and thank you always
and never get too loud
remember to stay humble
and make your Maw Maw proud

always help the elderly
and don't be in a rush
speak kindly to young ladies
their hearts you should not crush

no smoking, no drinking
and staying out all night
use your words instead of fists
and please try not to fight

wash your face and cut your hair
and try to dress a little snappy
cause it's your job to try and keep
your mawmaw very happy

One moment she lays watching his innocence glow across his soft little cheeks as he nestles closely beside her and falls quickly asleep.
She has lost so much more than she has gained in this life
As her body has grown weak and sickness overtakes her yet her will to go on still fights within her.
Once it was pills she took to keep her going or so she thought not knowing it was the pills that was killing her
Thoughts of giving up the fight often entered her tired soul as she fought  through her pain often times she wondered where she gained her strength and will to fight.
She held on to hope for the ones that had left her as thoughts of them returning were fading away
That little boy that lay nestled beside her and the man that she loves was the medicine she needed to fight for one more day.
Just as the others had gone now so did he
Now she lays all alone , no more bedtime prayers or supper at the table
No more knowing he’s sneaking behind me with a smile on his face thinking I can’t see him rushing to my bed to sleep.
He has no clue how much he means to me and how that precious little boy has kept his mawmaw alive just knowing she was with him almost every day.
My grandson was my medicine to get through my days. Now I don’t get to see him because his mom moved away.

Children are lucky because they have
A Grandma and  a Grandmama
Nonna, Mhamó, Abuela, Bibi
Babcia, Giagiá, Avó, Oma

Nagymama, Mormor, or Kuku wahine
Are names of love for their Nan
O baachan, Babushka, Tutu, Halmeoni
Are certainly not names for a man

Ouma, Savta, Bubbi, Geema
Nai Nai, Nona, Gramms and more
Bomma, Mawmaw, Yaya, Nana
If I keep going you’ll think  I’m a bore

All names for their Grandma
The one they adore
That special someone
Who’s love to the core

She plays with them, cuddles, and keeps them all warm
She feeds them, she rears them takes over the chore
But all of this just to say, lest we forget
Grandmas are LOVE LOVE  LOVE and more
