I strained to hear her whisper

ears impervious
heart envious

if only rewind of years
could get me beside her
reliving the ecstasy on a lover's date

*listening her lips' precious secret!
with two lovers seated before me in the bus

love love me do
the reply, of course,
feed me tea and oranges
that come all the way from china,
meet by the river,
meet me by the marketplace,
meet me at
the railway station,
we'll pretend to be
strangers in the same compartment,
long lost
combat buddies,
exchanging SOS's,
duelists hidden in plain site,
you'll say I like that tune,
the reply, of course,
it's a memory I haven't had yet,
it's sad and it's sweet,
someday, I'll know it complete,
when I wear an older women's clothes

puzzled,
he will try to be impressive,
trading rhymes for freedom,
verses of hearses mourning distance,
but there are no secrets
the eyes can keep,
or others cannot read,
and if freedom is longing,
then these children are free,
not at last, but to long.

They are the
children of the morning
leaning out of windows,
looking for love,
will they lean that way forever?

there are twenty eight new moons
in the month approaching.

there is a reason for every day,
plus one.

sand castles get washed away,
but
dreams of waves and days
yet to come,
continuous and connected,
the cells and words
that transverse water bodies
built from the long lasting kind of
defiance,
the kind that states as its premise:

love can and should,
perhaps even,
will,
conquer the spaces
between the letters of their
exchanges and trade
whole words for
actions.

but what do I know, little,
for I am but an observer,
a driftwood beetle from another ocean,
a linesman of a different kind,
who only know how to hum
on a long distance line,
a single tune,
she loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah,
an eavesdropper of their voices
that are neither muted,
nor common.
Apologies to Leonard Cohen, Bill Joel, The Beatles, Glen Campbell and Nat Lipstadt, and one or two others who are nameless, from whom I plagiarized shamelessly, for inspiration.

In popular usage, SOS became associated with such phrases as "save our ship", "save our souls" and "send out succour". These may be regarded as mnemonics, but SOS does not actually stand for anything and is not an abbreviation, acronym or initialism.

Words travelled from mouth to ear

behind cupped hands.
                                                                   Hush!

someone reprimanded. Not so loud!

                                                           I

know, another voice said.

                                     Can

you stop pinching me?

You

I know you - my dear lady, to me you are not a stranger
You live somewhere in this world, but don’t live very far
I’ve heard you in my morning raga; I’ve heard you in the evening bell
They cherish to say a lot about you and I also have a story to tell.

I follow you with my eyes – my fair lady, though you can’t see me
I paint you in the canvas of my soul but not for everyone to see
You’re the companion of my secret play, eavesdropper of my silent expression
Even in crowd of a thousand I feel you- can sense your matchless sensation.

Never been much of an eavesdropper
Others conversations I let them slide
But the one these ladies were talking
I couldn't let pass me by

Not like they weren't loud at the table they found
Where next to me they decided to sit
They didn't look much in need of anything free
But who doesn't like to share in their wit

As they continued to talk bystanders or not
The way some women do
I leaned in their way a little closer that day
As they subliminally were throwing me clues

That's when one of the three afforded me the opportunity
In saying she used to be a 34D
Leaning back in my chair from her major death stare
As I said what are you now...a 34 knee?
This is actually a true story....
My family continually tells me I have no filter...go figure.

the heat infects everything, muggy rain batter churning through murk

i close my hand and
cut the fingers on the lip

we left the forms on the third floor, which
is the fourth floor, really, english standard  i
  always forget that

the generator hums
they're     doing something with the piping
     sounds like drills
        but probably isn't

we had to close up early when the vents broke and
water gushed all over the computers, washed away the paper screens, we were
told to vacate, but I just stand, you
in baby blue  slacks, poke me   but i’m too busy
staring at my bleeding hand

the envelope was addressed here but i didn’t recognize the name,
no, wait, the other; it was to someone
         i knew but
not from around here, i   think

   there is much     and i

fall,  though cushion and sponge
          big eggplant river

remember when you were eighteen months and you ran and fell into the mirror? under a deep conviction that that was how you passed through, into the image beyond? but instead you just saw it shatter, and it gashed your arm up all the way up along the metal hinge? still have the scar, right? nowadays you don't trust reflections; you're always instead looking for that jagged lip, that latent violence of the edge, it's
   probably a good attitude, really

in the mirror    shattered birds,
break their necks on  bad design
too pathetic for tragedy
   don’t worry, we’re all self-hating narcissists here, you’ll
feel right at home-
     chuggin  on woolf and plath
only seek wisdom from self willed death
       it’s an indulgent bias
but the living are all such ******* suits, man

  just, look, how
they are speaking, now, in a row, a flat screen, projected, and words filter out. the faces are blur, the words are static,  but the form is discernible. accusations. charges. prosecute; indite. plaintiff paper wrung. burn the body and pin it to itself. axiomatized sin. society as the codification of a hatred too bored to sustain itself.  i ask for a glass of water, but the words only form wheeze through the strain. Quiet. Your turn to speak is later. i'd run away, but i'm invested now. gotta see how it ends. the screen retches on. do you recognize this letter? i ask, but the words are wheeze-

sorry, sorry, i know, even if it's all about you, i'm just carrying on about-
   yeah.
       Well!
                Then!
                          So!
   Do
           do you-
do you prefer to just embrace it?  wear it out, burn it all up at once?
the repulsive husk at the end is just confirms that there was something prior, after all. death is affirmation as well as negation.
or           do you prefer to hold it close, hide it away in dark spaces? i mean, that's fine too. a candle rarely lit never burns out. and only a few flickers are all you need for a wax seal; to drip your mark over sheathed words-

maybe it's the smell. it was sent from my hometown, after all. the name was never important, but the winter and coal. The olfactory of old factories. sorry. i know, but i couldn't resist
                         how we'd

we'd laugh in silence,
moths flooding through broken glass,
bodies only figured
       as sparks in orbit
     against the amber light
  always
     all too light
light light
  and colour.

weightless as paper
               a paper weight,   wait-
   thrown through a window?
no,   too
                 long ago to recall

the post office says they'll take it back to the sender. they can retry, repeat. it'll find it's way from there. it's okay, your responsibility is over; hand it over, leave your body at the door. as long as it's still sealed; as long as the envelope's not too frayed to cut, it's still good enough to exchange. interchangeable.   i run, still clutching

  and   they,     funnel us out,
river down the concrete stairway,
  those echoing closet tones,
to the street below,
and stare back at the mess, they're
   putting out cones,
                       and handing out ponchos,
for the typhoon rain of summer bare

and- and that's it. so what do you do? it's not entirely rhetorical. what can you do? do you
      just
scrawl a note, explaining yourself -everything this misplaced message became to you,- over the outside, and send it off? forcibly insert yourself into the conversation? and just, imagine, project some understanding, some insight, that they'll get from it, that you provided?
just break the seal? you can't open it, can you? it was never meant for you. hell, what answers would be found there, in words for another?
  but   perhaps-
perhaps   there are secret codes; messages, not in the words themselves, or the letters, but only to be found and understood by the eavesdropper, the guilty. that outside, absent third party, on the boundary of it all; just gazing in, standing there, speechless, beyond the mirrors glare

      but that's just fantasy

or, perhaps, do you prefer to just throw it all away from the get go; define yourself purely around the sense of loss? in the end, that's fine too. but just remember, for better or worse, even misery has diminishing returns

i mean, that's all there is, right? in the end, we just keep on going, until we don't. it's all the same; read a letter, burn a letter, send a letter. but, even if eros and thanatos are twin faces, ananke is still out there, on the edge, poking their cheek

Wildly clanging bells, soundless--

housed worship withdrawing

senses...your button black pupils

struck dead.

Alarmingly alive, wearing *******

vengeance in pure.

Both Christ and high priest tearing

open your skin, to shed a

blasphemous tour.

Exemplar energy transference,

popped cellophane wrap round

mileages of barbwire.

Eavesdropper, peace-fingered

tongue thru fangs...plunged in

red rondure, swell fruit.

Salival juice, moonlit seafoam --

hard jazz tripping your wire.

Asked to Come again--questioningly

striking, you always come again

on the flip side, straight up.

That notched spine: O sole mio.

Bite till darkness takes cover

A baby learning to walk. an old man fails to.

you haven't been touched in a week aside from a man who likes your socks and shoelaces offering you an elbow cause you have a chicken sandwich in your hands.

Why did you go in the "insect zoo" Mike? You ****** hate spiders.

Days without you...
Misery, is such an eavesdropper
Completing the day, with prayer due
Complaining announced, with hunger's care

Stoic interchanges
Odd to beauty, the committing change
Of love into a season of strangers
Where oh where, has my little lamb been?

Calling bird an open world...
Words of defense, the wisdom of tides
Turned by insignificance, a lip early
By courage's reclamation, for wishes divine

Cold thoughts about a seemly limit
Made by lovers and friends

Of legends, of vanity and amends...
