"atropine" poems
Sarin –
An organic molecule
Used for inorganic purposes
Showering civilians
Effectively icing their insides
Contorting the human form into forced frozen sculptures
Acting as if torture was an art of the highest caliber
An acquired taste reserved for society’s finest
And this was the Michelangelo masterpiece.
Atropine –
The organic antidote,
Shoot up the stimulant to hurdle your paralysis,
Relax the respiratory muscles caught in your throat,
Your eyes team with tears because you’re allowed to melt,
Your eyes team with tears out of profound shock,
Your eyes team with tears because humans forgot humanity.

A ride today in Des Moines
that appraise law and counteract
any that country may enact
where Wichita lineman forthwith
and mackinaw shall really embellish
furthermore with Granny Smith
awhile down stream on a riverboat
that foregoing is never behind
where a river is always wide
and bourgeois with a paddle wheel stride
why his atropine smile
reach the delta with such desire
and let him take the home route
in an abode of parish shanty
where river dance makes day long
a simple beast, a man
with chinchilla wrap round his neck
that sweep her off flourishing deck
these stratospheric ideals now
for sovereign witness entail campaign.

Grandpa’s heart stopped before
a doctor demanded
Atropine of a nurse.
My dad knelt to obstruct
my view of grandpa’s bed,
and told me he was fine.
I pushed past Dad’s blockade,
gripped the icy bed post,
and pulled on grandpa’s sheets.

My whole youth was spent
in exorcising myself from the bitter poison
that was force fed to me by devouring serpents
So much venom infiltrated inside my veins
that I became glacial to the core
dragged into anesthesia
rendered incapacitated to melt
even when the balmy breeze and beatific sun attempted to seep inside my cells
and combust the atropine wrecking havoc inside my blood
