Snow Fox, white as snow
Watching giant Polar Bear
Hoping for some fish
haiku
Shaun Yee Jan 2023
His charcoal black eyes seemed slightly near,
A twiggy grin spread from ear to ear,
A light frost covered his carrot nose,
With his branchy arms in open pose.

A red coloured hat sat on his head,
While a soft rope was his belt instead,
A yellow wool scarf lay on his chest,
The snowman did look his handsome best.

But with the hot sun he would go down,
And his melting face would wear a frown,
Then one evening he would soon be gone,
Turned to a bundle of snow forlorn.

The little monkeys asked their elders,
Why Evil on earth never ends,
Mankind seems quite incapable,
For everyone to live as friends.

Earthly souls are so corrupted,
And goodness is seldom known,
For Evil has triumphed as usual,
Since the first day that it was sown.

Why is Cruelty abundant,
Why is everything so unfair,
Why do all poor people suffer,
Aren't there good folks anywhere?

Alas the wiser elders did reply,
Mankind souls have been seduced,
By Material things and Self-love,
Real Love has sadly been reduced.

If there is ever real Justice,
In this world that we all live in,
Everything can still be alright,
If Morality will reign supreme.
A fun/tongue-in-cheek/philosophical poem from my "curious monkeys" file .... :-)  if you don't like the poem, please don't grumble to me .... go grumble with my monkeys.

A little sauce upon the fish,
A dash of chilly on that dish,
A sprinkle of pepper in the soup,
Gives us all a better food.

A little kindness on our part,
A dash of feeling in our heart,
A sprinkle of love until the end,
Makes us all a better friend.

I carry some walnuts in a bottle,
which are mainly meant to be
fed to the lovely squirrels,
that every now and then I see.
They come around in the garden,
and also spring from tree to tree,
the sight of these playful squirrels,
is always a tremendous joy for me.
Squirrels are really cute

He pretended he wasn't there,
When he looked intently at me,
Staying immobile statue-like,
Feinting to be part of the tree;

For several seconds he froze,
No single movement did he make,
The squirrel could have been sculptured,
from wood or clay just like a fake;

Slowly I threw him a walnut,
And suddenly he came alive,
Grabbing the nut and scrambling off,
I had no time to count to five.
We have cute squirrels in our condominium compound, but they are still timid: I am still trying to get them to take food from my hand  :-)

I am looking at him
He is looking at me
We are both wondering
What the outcome will be

I think that he is wrong
He thinks the error's mine
Both of us can't be right
The ending won't be fine

This morning after I woke up,
In the room mirror I did see,
What looked like a fuzzy stranger,
Staring back intently at me.
He copied all my expressions,
Doing exactly what I did,
I frowned, he frowned, I smiled, he smiled,
So very much like me indeed.

Catching them all, nothing ever falls,
Confident as could be,
His act a sight to see,
Performing in streets and shopping malls.

We don't really think much about it,
Although we suffer it all the time,
We are stalked from early morn till night,
Leaving us helpless without a fight,
Stress surrounds us everywhere,
It's lurking constantly here and there.

A host of sicknesses it will bring,
And this is not just a passing thing,
Our organs, kidneys, lungs and heart,
Will all be struck in whole or in part,
We have to evade stress seriously,
For it's our mortal enemy.

So preventive measures we must take,
Some sacrifices we have to make,
Daily exercises are a must,
Simple healthy moves that you can trust,
Meditation, yoga, you will find,
All of these will leave your stress behind.

It's comfortable
haiku
Shaun Yee Feb 2021
It is time. Right on the dot. The brushes are out,
and the artist is ready. The evening’s artwork will
begin in oil.

So the painting starts, with gentle wide strokes.
Simple shades for soft setting sun,
egg yolk red, carrot orange, cleverly done.

Then more forceful strokes as minutes pass.
Wide precise strokes. Lovely colours dash,
on unlimited canvas, the evening’s splash.

Lemon yellow like painted gold,
boldly morphed in crimson and blue,
and various shades of purple too.

Many minutes have passed. Half an hour all,
the final strokes are done for nature's call.

This awesome painting for earthly enjoyment,
all in total silence. No music. No fears,
for angels' harps are not for earthly ears.

The masterpiece is a short time's stay,
Then the brilliant colours fade away,
until next sundown.

Yellow Sunflower
Bright and friendly like the sun
Summer gold is here
haiku
Shaun Yee Jun 2022
Sunlight fiercely shines
Too bright for many drivers
Sun glasses may help
Shaun Yee Nov 2021
Sunlight through the leaves of trees,
Shining streams of golden rays,
A lovely tropical scene,
Promises of sunlight ways.

Each light stream was dynamic,
Aglow with aspirations,
Like children's smiles of brightness,
Spreading varied emotions.

If sunlight could be bottled,
And shared with everyone,
We will all have sunlight days,
Even times when there are none.

Two swinging high, one swinging low,

There is just as much beauty in silence,
As in the sweetest of sweet sounds,
For in wondrous silence wings the mind,
In mystic spheres without bounds;
Incessant dialogues sprouting from talking vain,
Test the patience of the most patient mind,
Sounds and noises and selfish talk,
The sounds of music they all blind;
So amidst the noise and bustle chaotic,
Of chattering people all around,
I like to every now and then escape,
Into a realm without a sound.

And returned to earth to meet the spoon,

fun limerick for children
Shaun Yee May 2024
There was once a crooked man,
Who drove a big brown van,
Could heave a heavy sack,
Though he had a crooked back;

He carried a crooked stick,
Though he wasn't sick,
So he could limp in style,
For many a crooked mile;

Thus he led a crooked life,
Together with his wife,
And it is also true,
Like him -
She was crooked too.
A bit of nonsense now and then, said the donkey to the hen

If the seers do know and do really see,
Our lives in stars, our lives to be,
Then surely we would really like to know,
Which roads and pathways in life to follow;
But if everything that is true were told,
And we then know the destinies we hold,
Would we be much happier and more sane,
Or would we find our lives more profane?
Perhaps in life we need some darkness still,
To balance our minds and hearts and will?

haiku
Shaun Yee Jun 2022
He was suspended in flight,
Poised as if time stood still,
Golden wings a fluttering,
Outlined against the distant hill.

Swooping in the evening sun,
Wings outspread in glory;
As our ship sailed away,
The seagull followed closely,

Darting smoothly back and forth,
Following the foamy wake,
Its keen eyes always searching,
For floating morsels to take.

And it grew ever smaller,
A princely bird in flight,
It dipped a final farewell,
Then went in the fading light.

The wine glass sat boldly on the shelf,
All alone by its lonesome self,
gleaming cleanly and crystal clear;
I was watching it very near,
so could see it had a strong gold rim,
very elegant and quite slim;
The glass was reflecting the light
a nearby candle burning bright,
and the sight brought back to me
a distant childhood memory,
Of porcelain bowls we once had,
that were bought by my mom and dad,
They were designed with dragons bold,
and gently set with rims of gold.

He had wandered into the jungle,
And it was getting very late at night,
He couldn’t find his way out again,
And there was just nobody else in sight.

“Oh no! I’m completely lost”, he thought
And quickly his panic started to rise,
But he knew he had to keep quite calm,
Or he would surely pay a deadly price.

An hour later, having stumbled,
Through thorns and bushes as he blindly trekked,
He suddenly felt an eerie silence
That made all the hair rise on his neck.

It was then he saw the bright green light,
Floating high in the tree tops on one side,
Which seemed to beckon silently to him,
While his mounting fear he tried to hide.

The small light was shining steadily,
and he felt a very strange calmness,
spreading throughout his entire body
and then he lost his fear of the darkness.

Slowly the floating light moved on ahead,
He followed it as if in a trance,
And after some ten minutes had gone by
He suddenly found a trail by chance.

The green light kept guiding him forward,
And the narrow path was getting smoother,
Soon he was out and his sense of dread
of being lost was gone altogether.

He searched all over for the spirit glow,
But the strange light was completely gone,
He was sound and safe and happy now,
He felt as if a new life had been born.
A semi-factual poem in a Malaysian jungle

The tree stump is quite elegant,
and for an elf it is enough,
It is a cute and tiny home,
and the furnishings are not rough;

Winding stairway fashioned from twigs
lead upstairs to a bedroom bright,
On ground floor is the sitting room,
table, chairs, lanterns all in sight;

There are no windows or doors,
honesty is common to all,
So in Elfin and Fairy land,
there are no thieves and crooks to stall;

Set in a pretty neighbourhood,
amidst the toadstools and flowers,
near a sparkling water fountain,
filled by frequent summer showers;

Elves are tiny, just inches high,
hidden in Magic Forest Green,
You can be passing very near,
their homes are never ever seen.
i love elves, fairies, gnomes, leprechauns and all mystical and magical creatures!!

Are you proud you are with the human race,
That walking creature with a brain and face,
Who thinks he is the important being,
He is smarter than any living thing?

Other creatures are here to serve him well,
He goes to heaven but they go to hell,
After all he is made in god’s image,
All other creatures belong in the cage.

And are you proud of the things he’s done?
Killing others, maiming people for fun?
Like human terrorists with deranged souls,
Worshipping hate and evil as their goals?

When man has learnt to be less conceited,
To hide his ego and be big-hearted,
When he has learned and fully understands,
To embrace all beings with loving hands;

Only then can we be proud of the human race,
That walking creature with a brain and face!

I dream of wandering into a paradise,
Where people are ever gentle, kind and wise,
Where everyone lives in peace together,
Regardless of race, religion and gender;

Violence and hate do not exist,
No one behaves like a deranged beast,
And Nature blends with human kind,
While beauty dwells in every mind;

Smiles are rampant with one and all,
Love is written on every wall,
I dream of wandering into a paradise,
Where people are ever gentle, kind and wise.

Jealousy stems from insecurity
thus a feeling of inferiority
so one needs some serious introspection
To understand it and its reaction
jealousy is a negative reaction often with disastrous results

Parting tears were never so forlorn.
