I went above the roof of my so-called humble home;
Don't think I'm feeling lonely just because I'm alone;
My older brother is present maybe he is fast asleep;
Even my friends and loved ones have dark secrets they hide and keep;

I don't mind I have done much worst than you can think of;
Honestly, it doesn't bother me, there are many crucial problems we need to solve;
If we keep our eyes closed then yes we can smile, laugh drowning ourselves in ecstasy with bliss;
That is fine with me if everyone can do it, but if we see what is truly happening around us and we have a beating heart, tears in our very eyes would not cease;

If I just want to do what I wanted I would love to be with the girl, the woman who saved me, maybe hopefully I honestly love;
But If horrible war and all the crazy things around the world are still going on, what's the sense of everything I'll do, please enlighten me those who hear me from above, all your blessings I'll grab;

If I'll inspire the younger generation will it work?
I have already made many unacceptable things I'm worst than a ****;
If I do good or bad in the standard of this world could it make everyone happy and smile?
I lived in the City of smiles, but can every people be truly happy in facing life's trials?

All the ugly, disgusting things I've done whatever they are I don't deny it;
Some of it makes me stupid, a good-for-nothing fool any word you're hungry to add, no good all bad,
and at times makes me lose hope and end the very life I have;
but no I'll embrace every experience I have and endure all the aftermath and still fight, I'll never quit;

Honestly, I'm tired of pleasing people, but deep inside I want to please that girl/woman who saved me;
And most of all the one who gave me my life the one who created me;
Other people call the Father I know God or whatever any other name for the source of all creation;
So if it's fine for you, whoever reading this let me call the one who created me, my Father the one I invoke if I need immense inspiration;

Forgive me if the words I use bother anyone of you;
Yes I know, I have trouble using them, if only you have a clue;
If I'll be true in everything I do and say;
Can every ear and heart handle it? If it's the answer to every problem will you follow each step of the way?

If I'll be a righteous pious zealous man with the grace of our Creator in just one snap overnight;
Would anybody follow me and do the same and leave all the wrongdoings which are unpleasing to every sensible rational being's sight?
Yes, I know every human being have their principles, ideologies whatever philosophy in living;
But in life and death situations you can truly see if what you are looking and standing for is worth dying;

Yes, it's easy to say words, sing songs, write poems, or whatever at this time and age;
But you can only know what is true if your very life is at risk and face your life's unpleasing page;
When I was younger I easily get into a rage and make a reckless decisions;
But now I can just act like I'm angry with good intentions;

Yes at times I get ****** when someone, anyone bothers me;
And at times I get so cold everything vanishes in my sight not a single soul worth for me to see;
At times I wish this world could be a paradise once more;
But at times when I get blinded I wish this world would tremble to its very core;

The things I say may appear so vicious and malicious;
Isn't we human beings capable of that, kindly answer that, and don't be pretentious;
In my experience it is true I could do the worst possible thing I can imagine;
I don't care if you list my name in every sin;

But no I still have hope and dreams for the future of our world and every living being staying in this place we are sharing;
Who the hell I am to make a change in this world, I know one thing in the vastness of creation I am nothing;
That is why I have nothing to gain or to lose;
I could just do nothing and be safe and wait for my story to end or simply die but now I'll be reckless and say things I bottled up, forgive me if that is what I choose;

I say these things because I see and feel what is happening here and around;
Violence is just around the corner great or small even in our very selves it can be found;
I don't say these things to put anyone down or destroy people's hope;
I just say what is true, but we need to face it and hold on to that redemptive rope;

Many of us want solutions to the problems we encounter may they be great or small;
But when the answers to the problems are facing us, some of us run and roll;
Sorry, I'll say a ***** word influenced by a well-known country;
**** it I'll spend all day writing until I'll run out of words even If I will sound crazy;

Honesty I'm not comfortable using this English language;
I love to speak in my mother tongue or just be silent but I need to do what is needed in our time and age;
Writing this, whatever you may call this would not give me anything;
but who knows it can stir something, make bells ring;

The first concern that comes to my mind is the
extreme weather and war;
Let me think about what will I talk about first
cause both things can leave bitter scars;
Many of us are always in a hurry to go somewhere;
We use and ride vehicles or any transportation that pollutes the air just to mention a few and say yes we still care;

Oh! I want to say the ***** word! but can we be true to ourselves and swear to vanish into existence or simply die?
If we including you and me human beings with our endless activities are the cause of extreme weather conditions please to ourselves don't we lie;
Can we give up the things that contribute to the devastation of our planet our home?
Or settle for a half-*** lukewarm solution and wait for the worst then we all tremble to our very bones;

Let me ask, those who have homes or shelter you frankly love to spend your time staying in every day;
What will you do if a pest or anything is destroying it I ask this nicely anyway;
Likewise our common home our planet called earth do we honestly take care?
Or just open our eyes every time there is a calamity happening anywhere;

Then close our eyes once more when it seems peaceful and calm;
Knowing we're slowly gradually contributing to our world's injury, I don't express this to everyone but maybe some;
I don't know maybe I have already done unimaginable damage to our planet;
If so I'll face any consequences but please let us do the things needed to be done before we all fall and regret;

I don't forget I'm just passing by spending some time in this world of ours;
If I ask forgiveness and do nothing to solve the problems, It's better to die or stay behind bars;
Let's not play dumb, we know we human beings are so intelligent;
Isn't human beings invented things that could destroy our world does that sound excellent?

Let us learn and go back to history what occur to that country Japan;
If that emerges once more, I don't know if we could still have some fun;
Wait I'm not done, why do we follow leaders or rulers who lead us to a pit;
I don't know if I have a leader who is like that the hell with him/her I'll quit;

Why don't those leaders fight their war and leave others be;
Imagine you're peaceful and someone bothers you or me;
They want peace and want to talk it out but they are ready to ****;
What on earth is wrong with our heads, we need to check it out is that the first thing we need to heal?

I have heard enough of myself writing in a foreign language;
With all due respect I'll use another for the next page;
Bato bato sa langit ang ma igo please wag tayo always galit;
Pasensyahi lang ko kung kis-a syado ko ka kulit kag bua-ngit kis-a gani ako yagit;

Not all letters at a post office are meant for everyone to read;
Not everyone in this world can make my heart and head gradually bleed;
For the woman who captured my frozen flaming heart;
From far away you are may you read this with your heart this annoying art;

If I bother you before let me do it once more;
I can't wield this feeling deep inside my core;
A woman whose 1st name starts and ends with A;
This part of this letter is for you, I'm expressing today;

Forgive me if I've been reckless and will be in my actions and words, I write and say;
The way I am now and before can you accept me I ask you in a sincere polite way;
I write this not because I'm angry or happy just trying to keep in touch;
You have made me your slave a prisoner you made me crazy in many good ways I can't say
too much;

I have nothing great to offer you to make you truly happy;
I know millions of others can love you more and you can be;
Honestly, it makes me jealous if you'll be in the arms of someone;
But I have no right to do that for in your life maybe I'm just no one;

If it is God's plan for you and me to be apart in heart be far away;
It's not God's fault or yours but mine cause many times both of you I have dismayed and maybe betrayed;
I have played the game called life and I have no cheat code to win it;
I have times I'm on the straight road and at times fall to a pit but still, I never quit;

Even a writer just can edit and at times unnecessary messages he can delete;
And a witty singer can sing passionately so bitter and at times so deliciously sweet;
You made my heart beat truly beat in a romantic sense;
And at times in your presence I feel intensely tense;

We live in a dense world full of amazing people;
But I wonder in love and madness for you I fall;
I understand and know what I need to do or my Father's/Creator's/God's call my duty to do;
But if I pour my life and my heart into you I don't ask you to do the same I don't want to control you;

Forgive me if I'm madly obsessively falling in love with you;
Correct me if I'm wrong honestly this feeling I have for you I have no clue;
All I know now about me and you without you I'm so blue;
I want to please you in every way at times I can no longer be at ease and be true;

Please tell me what I need to do to capture your heart;
Or just even give me a place there to be a part of, just even a tiny part;
If you can make me your friend honestly for me it's enough;
But if you ask my heart what it truly wants for me it will be rough;

I dream of a future for you and me to be a happy family;
But who I am in your life now I don't know I'm lost I can't see;
Just tell me sincerely if in your life I don't have a chance;
If even a small there is I could leap for joy and madly dance;

But I don't want to manipulate or control you I want you to be free;
To say and do what you want and need truly even if it's not me;
Don't worry I can take it gracefully if you reject me I'll move on;
But the blessings you gave me the hope I'll treasure it and never be gone;

Please don't think if my heart will fall into pieces I'll become a monster;
Don't worry about that God is watching me our Creator the one I call Father;
If I accept the good things in life is it not fair to accept also the little trials;
Sometimes it's also good to shed some tears and cry not every time just laugh and smiles;

I'll do everything within my capability to make this world a paradise;
But without the grace of our creator God, our common Father I'm just a foolish man not wise;
So don't worry to reject me I just want us to be free;
If only I own all the things in this world or a castle for you to be;

If that will make you truly happy how I wish I would be a king;
And make every people our family and we could share a meal a home have fun and you can sing;
I know it may sound crazy and impossible but who I am now I'm happy, a life of simplicity is simple;
One thing I remember my mother wrote a note on a book she gave me, it says always be humble;

I'm afraid to be as powerful and rich as the kings;
It's not a joke to have all that and the possibilities it brings;
One thing I know is that everything I have is temporary;
The things I have, my mind my body, talents, and everything within me;

Only by the test of time, we would know;
If we'll be blessed with old age we can still live and grow;
Forgive me if I did not sound so romantic;
At distant seas we are apart I'm not sure the whereabouts maybe the Pacific and Atlantic;

But deep inside my heart I only wish the best for everyone especially you;
If we're not meant to be for each other I'll accept it but please let us be true;
I write this part of the letter for the woman whose name starts and ends with A;
I wish the best for you and in my heart, you already have a place to stay;

I'll just end here for now but I'm not yet done;
I hope I can hear from you even if in your life maybe you want me gone;
I have nothing to offer you to truly genuinely make you happy;
But if you are already truly happy with your life I will be happy too it resonates with me;

Now, this part of the story is for everyone for a human being who has an open heart;
Can we welcome someone anyone maybe a stranger in a time so dark;
Can we replenish what is missing from someone unknown to us what they lack;
Or just ignore an unpleasant stranger in our hearts we put a block, chain it and lock;

If someone needs something to eat just to survive and be alive are we willing to give;
If a homeless hopeless stranger knocks on our door will we accept them where we live;
If someone or anyone truly essentially needs something a matter of life and death that degree of importance;
Will we give or share and sacrifice what we have even if it hurts or put a lock into our hearts and do nothing but glance;

If every open-hearted people in our world who don't want and need war will unite;
And strive extremely to heal not only our heads but also our planet and disobey those who commands us to do violent actions and senseless fight;
Will we give time or a chance a shot for that matter;
Or just go with the flow and do our day-to-day routine to obtain our bread and butter;

Is it possible for all of us just for a day or a week to have a leave like a worldwide collective vacation;
To stop and cease anything which is harming any living creature/being and let the planet breathe, maybe mother earth is already in a state of suffocation;
Or can we just sit somewhere and be still whatever you may call it prayer or meditation;
I don't know I'm just giving an idea but maybe anyone there somewhere has a better answer for an open-hearted being who is willing in listening and doing the solutions;

We can be open-hearted to listen and do what is truly needed;
I'm no genius I need everyone willing to share their solutions and answers, for now, we are alive but what can we do if we're already dead?
I've become who I am because of my relationship with our creator God or our common Father;
But before I encounter our Creator I knew him through someone in some stories or letters;

I don't know for everyone but in my life experience it was the man called Jesus Christ;
Who let me have a glimpse of the source of all creation which is unexplainably nice;
I do some methods or ways trying hard to follow that man's footsteps and maybe accidentally;
  I have tasted and touched the one called infinite;
If I'll put into words what I've experienced it will be indefinite;

Everything pleasingly beautiful that I have made I can't make any of it just by using my wit;
But for the wrong ways and decisions, I have chosen it was my own will I will not deny it or disown it;
I don't know and will not assume anything about anyone practicing being still;
But one thing I know is we are all created by the same unfathomable Being for me that is real;

In this lifetime of mine I have experienced indescribable things I need not say;
But I thank you our common Father the Creator of all for the chance to live even this very moment and all the nights and days;
By the way, I know people are confused and fight because of what they believe or their religion;
If a person has a sincere conviction on what they know or believe they will have a clear vision;

So if it's the end times we are living in now will it change the way we are because of fear;
And if it is not will we just do anything that pleases us even if we hurt and harm others who are dear;
I won't stop anyone to be fearless but please can we human beings be harmless;
I have no right to say this I know in my life I have hurt and harmed someone I'm that careless;

If only we could open our hearts and not give them a lock;
And fill which have empty and shower them with what they lack;
May it be physically, emotionally, spiritually, or psychologically on any aspect of a human being;
I know things seem so hard but if we have an open mind and heart dark skies and times will be brightly shining;

I know whomever we believe or know the one who Created us all will not abandon us;
For the gifts, we have like talents, knowledge, wisdom, and many more given by our Creator I still have faith in humanity and especially in our common Father God I trust;
I always remind myself in the vastness of creation I'm just a speck of dust;
Even that man of steel in a children's story has a weakness like steel eaten by rust;

So if it's a must to open and stretch our minds and hearts then put away those locks;
For the time is ticking for all of us we better spend it wisely and set our clocks;
Set aside or sacrifice anything that blocks us to reach a common goal;
Then if possible we all communicate, and cooperate for the common good of all;

I wish and dream we can all have an open mind and heart to lift one another;
This is a wish coming from an ordinary child-man who already lost his biological father and mother;
Will it be beautiful before we end our life's stories this world will be so much better;
And the next generation will no longer need to read this lengthy letter;

Song
r Apr 2014
Led down from the tower
Head high and hands bound
Blindfold declined against the wall
Black square pinned to his heart
Eyes afire and shining proud
He sang...

He sang of Caruso, Townes Van Zandt
Pavarotti, Bocelli, Mercury,
Carreras, he sang of Antoine,
Of Sinatra, Lennon, Morrison, Redding
He sang and songbirds paused in flight
He sang like them all

He sang a song of himself
Of leaves of grass, of second comings
Of Byron, and Bharti, and Cummings
He sang of Neruda, and Plath, Tagore
Dickinson, Kamala Das and Naidu
Oh, he sang of them all

He sang of art and beauty
Of Mona Lisa and starry nights
Girls in green dresses and pearls
He sang of Van Gogh, of Picasso
Of Rembrandt, da Vinci
He sang of Michelangelo

He sang of sadness, pain
He sang of My Lai, Sand Creek
Of Guernica and Krystallnacht
He cried and sang of Wounded Knee
Of Katyn Forest, Sabra and Shatila
Oh, he wept as he sang

He sang of history and wonders
He sang of Olduvai and pyramids
Machu Picchu, Tikal, and Angkor Wat
He sang of a great wall, the Taj Mahal
Stonehenge, Easter Isle, Mesa Verde
His song took us to them all

He sang of courage
A song of Bunker Hill, Gettysburg
Of the Alamo, Normandy, Stalingrad
Of Lincoln, Guevara and Dr. King
He sang of Bolivar, Bhutto, Ghandi
He shamed us with their song

He sang his song...
As women sighed and peasants cried
He  sang until the rifles fired, he died
Songbirds fell from the sky
Soldiers broke their guns on stones
And marched into the deep blue sea.

I was found by a mermaid at the edge of the sea, mysterious and beautiful, she sang to me.

She sang to me of life with her breath. She sang of the dark, and cold, life,  and death.

She sang of the  creatures that move through the oceans. Of sharks and squid and much smaller commotion . She sang of the whales and their  graceful motions.

She sang of the undersea currents that keep them alive, and the life and death struggle that surrounds their lives.

She sang of the monsters in the very great depth, to venture there is courting death.

She sang of the people who live in the deep, with love and tenderness, in her heart they keep.

Their lives are not easy,  every day is a struggle. To live, and love, and stay out of trouble.

I sang to her of our world, of political strife, of crime and racism, the American life. The loss of resources, of global warming, unending war, and so much more.

But sang to her also, of forests and trees, a day by a lake, a cool mountain breeze.I sang of great mountains that touched the sky, of rain and snow that blinds the eye. I sang of vast deserts , miles of sand. I sang to her as I took her hand.

I sang to her the whole day through, of great creatures that we have too, of gentle giants, and the insect world.

I sang through the night of the wonders we see, skyscrapers, airplanes, ships on the sea.

We marveled that  were almost the same, the things that separate us are nothing but shame.

We're not so very different above water and below. Life has meaning, and we go with the flow. Whether sharks or debtors we all have our foe. One bad step is the end of what we know.

We fell in love blindly, this creature and me, a love so profane we knew it couldn't be. A decision was made between us that night we would part as lovers without a fight.

As quickly as she arrived,  she left with no sound, no moral to her song was given, nor found.

The blue night sang to me
A single note all alone.
It hung in the dense air
Beneath the darkness drone.

The blue night sang to me,
It skipped across the river.
It sang to me a melody,
A chilling ballard sends a spine to shiver.

The blue night sang to me
A song of sombre truth;
An epitaph to day,
Ending innocent youth.

The blue night sang to me
But it said not a word.
It sang of nothing real…
Or nothing that could be heard.

The blue night sang to me
From behind skeletal trees.
It boomed and whistled and cracked at
Branches broken to appease.

The blue night sang to me;
I could not help but hear.
It beat upon its war drum -
Abandon to fear.

The blue night sang to me;
It stared into my eyes.
A one man audience
To hear the beat demise.

The blue night sang to me,
A haunting melody
And forever will it follow
Wherever I may be.

DONWARD CAÑETE GOMEZ BUGHAW

Kung isa-isahin ang nangakaraan
Simula no'ng ika'y aking niligawan
Hanggang sa dumating ating hiwalayan,
Maikuk'wento ko ng walang alangan.

Unang kita palang, napaibig ako
Sa isang babae at Nimfang tulad mo;
Puso ko'y nahulog ng di napagtanto,
Siguro'y pakana ito ni Kupido.

Iyong itinanong, "Ikaw ba si Donward?"
Ako'y napatigil nang dahil sa gulat
Ako ay lumingo't ikaw ay hinarap,
Aking itinugon isang tango't kindat.

Hindi ko mawari't ikaw ay nawaglit;
Ako ay nalumbay sa nasahing pilit
Ano't ang tadhana ay nagmamalupit.

Gusto ko pa namang ika'y makilala
Paanong nangyari't agad kang nawala,
Hindi tuloy kita natanong o sinta
Sa iyong pangalan na pang-engkantada.

Aking inusisa ang aking sarili:
"May pag-asa pa bang makita kang muli?
May tadhana kayang magtatagpo uli
Sa ating dalawa kahit na sandali?"

Hanggang isang araw, nang aking makita
Iyong kaibigang naglakad mag-isa

At baka maantig, batong puso niya.

nating pamantasang nagtatahang huwad
ng dunong at puring nanahanang likas.

Nagdaan ang gabi't umaga na naman
Pagsulat ng tula'y aking sinimulan,
Yaong tulang handog sayo kamahalan
Nitong si Balagtas, Donward ang pangalan.

Ang iyong pangalan ang naiititik
Niyong aking plumang espadang matulis;
Ang tinta ay dugong may hinalong pawis
Nitong aking huli't wagas na pag-ibig.

Ngunit sa kabila, niyong aking katha
Aking nalimutan ang lahat ng bigla
Maging pangalan mo, sintang minumutya
Kung kaya't nagtanong uli ang makata.

"Siya ang babaeng aking naibigan,"
Pagkukuwento ko kay Jesang huwaran
Nang ika'y nakitang naglakad sa daan
Kasama ang dal'wa mo pang kaibigan.

At nang naguluha'y aking itinuro,
Pagkatapos niyo'y siyang aking sugo;

Di mo man lang ako nagawang balingan.

Nang aking tanungin si Jesang huwaran,
Nang siya'y nagbalik sa pinanggalingan,
Kung ano ang iyong tunay na pangalan:
"Devina Mindaña," kanyang kasagutan.

Hindi lumalao't hindi nakayanan
Ng puso kong ito, ang manahimik lang;
Kaya't nagsimulang ikaw ay sabayan,
Kahit hindi pa man kilalang lubusan.

Ewan ko kung bakit ako'y tinarayan,
Gusto kong magtanong, pero di na lamang;

Subalit, lumipas ilang linggo't buwan
Tayo'y nagkasundo't nagkausap minsan;
Insidenteng iyo'y di ko malimutan,
Malamyos **** tinig, aking napakinggan.

Nang ako'y tanungin sa aking pangalan,
Sa telepono ko'y sagot ay Superman;

Sa papasukin kong isang labirinto;
Sa isang kastilyong nasa iyong puso.

Hanggang isang gabi, mayroong sayawan,
Napuno ng tao ang gitnang bulwagan;
Ang aking sarili'y hindi napigilan
Na ika'y hanapi't maisayaw man lang.

Ngunit ng matunto'y hindi nakaasta,
Ang aking nasahin ay naglahong bigla;

At baka pa tuloy yaon ay mapaltos;
Ang mabulilyaso'y mahirap na unos
Nitong aking pusong may panimding lubos.

Yaong binibining aking nakaharap:

Pagkatapos niyo'y agad kong sinagot
Tanong niyang sadyang nakakapanubok
At ipinagtapat yaong aking loob

Naging tugon niyong butihin **** pinsan,
"Tanging payo ko lang ay pahalagahan,
Huwag pabayaa't siya ay igalang."

Aking isinunod nang kami'y matapos
Ay ang iyong ateng wari d'yosang Venus;
Agad kong sinabi habang napalunok
Yaong aking pakay at nang s'ya'y masubok.

Imbis na tugunin yaong aking pakay,
Ako'y di pinansin kung kaya't nangalay
Dalawa kong mata sa kanilaynilay
Ako'y nanghihina't puso'y nanlupaypay.

Aking iniisip sa tuwi-tuwina
Ay ang pangalan mo, mahal kong Devina;
At ang hinihiling sa bantay kong tala,
Hihinting pag-asang makapiling kita.

Kaya't hindi ako nakapagpipigil,
Iyong aking loob na nanghihilahil
Aking inihayag sayo aking giliw

Papuntang simbaha'y sinusuyo kita
Hanggang sa pagpasok ako'y sumasama
Kahit hindi alam ang gagawin sinta.

Bago nagsimula ang misa mahal ko,
Ang aking larawa'y iniabot sayo;
May sulat sa likod, sana'y nabasa mo,
Yaong pangungusap ay mula sa puso.

Di kita nakitang ako ay nilingon,
Sapagkat atens'yo'y naroong natuon
Sa isang lalaking pumasok na roon,
At sayo'y tumabi hanggang sa humapon.

At nang nagsimula'y umalis na ako,
Pagkat ako itong walang sinasanto;
Baka tuloy ako magsasang-demonyo
Sa aking nakitang katuwaan ninyo.

Hindi ko malaman kung bakit sumakit,
Nanibugho ako, ano't iyo'y salik?;
Ano nga ba ito't tila naninikip?
Lintik na pag-ibig, puso ko'y napunit!

Napaisip ako habang naglalakad
Hanggang sa isip ko'y nagkakaliwanag;
'Manibugho sayo'y hindi nararapat,'
Napatungo ako sa sariling habag.

Ilang saglit pa at akin ng pinahid
Luhang sumalimbay sa pisnging makinis
At saka nangusap ng pagkamasakit:
"Wag kang mag-alala't di ko ipipilit."

"Itong pag-ibig kong nagniningas apoy,
Nasisiguro kong hindi magluluoy;

Sa dami ng tao'y di kita nasilayan;
Ngunit, nang tanawin sa kinauup'an,
Naroong Devina't kinaiinisan.

Nanatili ako't hindi na umalis,
Di tulad kaninang lumabas sa inis;
Ako'y umupo na at nakikisiksik,
Kahit patapos na ang misang di ibig.

Hindi ko nga ibig, pagmimisang iyon
At maging pagsamba't gano'ng pagtitipon;
Pagtayo't pagluhod di ko tinutugon,
Pagkat ako itong walang panginoon.

Araw ay lumipas mula ng masuyo,
Ika'y sinubuka't nang hindi malugo
Itong aking pusong namalaging bigo
Sa loob ng dibdib, namugang tibo.

Iyong naging tugon ay nakakapaso,
Masakit isipi't maging ipupuso;
Yaong tumatama'y animoy palaso,

Tanging ikaw pa rin ang pinipintuho;
Kaya't wag isiping ito'y isang laro,
Pag-ibig kong ito'y hindi isang biro.

Hanggang sa dumating gabing aking asam,
Sa lilim ng mangga, bago ang sayawan
Ay iyong inamin ang nararamdaman,
Ating tagpong iyo'y di malilimutan.

Ipinagtapat mo na ika'y may gusto,
Ngunit di matugon itong aking puso,
Sapagkat ikaw ay mayroon ng nobyo
Di mo kayang iwa't ayaw **** manloko.

Aking naging tugon sa iyong sinabi,
Ay handang maghintay at mamamalagi
Hanggang sa panahong ikaw ay mahuli,
Makita't malamang di na nakatali.

Sa mukha'y nakita, matamis na ngiti
Niyong Mona Lisang, pinta ni Da Vinci;
Ako'y natigilan ilan pang sandali,
Nang aking matanaw, gandang natatangi.

Bago pa nag-umpisa'y pumasok na tayo,
Sa hinaraya kong dakilang palasyo,
At sa lilingkuran tayo ay naupo,
Niyong maliwanag, loob ng himnasyo.

At nang magsimulang musika'y tumugtog,
Ika'y namaalam at para dumulog

Ang araw at linggo'y tila naging saglit;
Ako'y nagtataka't biglang napaisip,
Ano at ang oras ay mukhang bumilis.

Hanggang isang gabi nang aking tanungin,
Sa iyo, o, mahal kung bibigyang pansin;
Hanggang kailan mo pagdudurusahin;
May pag-asa pa bang nadama'y diringgin?

Iyong naging sagot sa katanungan ko:
"Di na magdurusa't ngayo'y maging tayo."
Ang rurok ng saya ay aking natamo,
Lalo pa't sinabing mahal mo rin ako.

Sa kadahilanang gustong masiguro,
Aking naitanong kung iyo'y totoo;
Baka mo lang kasi ako'y binibiro,
At kung maniwala'y sugatan ang puso.

Iyong ibinalik, ating gunitain,
Doon sa manggahan 'sang gabing madilim;
Ipinagtapat mo ang iyong damdamin,
Ngunit, di nagawang puso ko'y tugunin.

Pagkat mayroon kang sintang iniibig,
Iisang lalaking namugad sa dibdib;

Na ating pag-ibig, manatiling lihim;
Aking naging tugo'y 'sang tangong lampahin
Pagkat aking isip, gulong-gulo man din.

"Sigurado ka ba sa'yong naging pasya?"
Ang muli kong tanong, bago naniwala
Sayo aking mahal na isang diwata,
Yaong aking ibig at pinapantasya.

Iyong naging tugon sa aking sinabi:
"Kung ayaw mo'y huwag, di ko masisisi;
Ano pa't puso mo'y sadyang madiskarte,

pagkat aking puso'y lubhang naligalig.

Muli kang tinanong kung pasya'y totoo,
Di na mababawi't di na mababago;
Iyong naging tugon sa katanungan ko,
Pisngi ko'y hinaplos, sabay sabing 'oo.'

Kay sarap marinig, salita **** iyon,
Iisa ang punto at maging ang layon;
Para bang lagaslas ng tubig sa balon,
Ibig kong pakinggan sa buong maghapon.

Matapos ang pasko'y siyang araw natin,
Na kung gunitai'y araw na inamin,
tinugon ang puso at binigyang pansin,
at saka sinabing, ako'y mahal mo rin.

Aking gabing iyo'y narurok ang saya,
Ngiti niyong buwa'y nakakahalina;
Ibig kong isulat ay isang pantasya,
At ikaw Devina, yaong engkantada.

Araw'y nangaglipas, daho'y nangalaglag,
Ano at ang oras tila naging iglap;
Siyang araw natin ay muling lumapag,
Ano at ang panaho'y tila naging lundag.

Iyong regalo mo'y hindi malimutan,
At maging pagbating ibig kong pakinggan,
Sa bawat umagang araw'y sumisilang
At kung maaari'y mapawalang-hanggan.

Ngunit nang magdaan ilang araw't linggo,
Naging malungkuti't di na palakibo;
Puso ko'y mistula isang boteng tibo,
Nabiyak sa dusa nang itatuwa mo.

Sa tuwi-tuwina'y napaisip ako,
Talaga nga kayang tapat ang puso mo?;
Ulo ko'y sasabog, bulkang Pinatubo,
Bakit ba't isip ko'y nagkakaganito?

Ilang araw kitang hindi tinawagan,
Pagkat labis akong nagdusa't nagdamdam;
Malakas kong loob ay di nilubayan
Ng kapighatia't maging kalungkutan.

Tayo nga'y mayroong isang kasunduan,
Di maikaila't sinasang-ayunan
Ngunit, ang itat'wa'y di makatarungan,
Alalahanin **** ako'y nasasaktan.

Ako'y wag itulad sa makinang robot
Na di nakaramdam maski anong kirot;
Ako ay may pusong nakakatilaok,
Pumipintig baga'y putak ng 'sang manok.

Kaya't nang sadyain sa tinutuluyan,
Ika'y kinausap at pinagsabihang:
"Sakaling darating ating hiwalayan,
Huwag magpaloko sa kalalakihan.

At saka-sakaling sayo'y may  manligaw,
Isipin mo muna't wag agad pumataw;
Pasya'y siguruhin bago mo ibitaw,
Ang iyong salita, nang di ka maligaw."

Unang halik nati'y hindi malimutan,
At kahit na yao'y isang nakaw lamang,
Pangyayaring iyo'y di makaligtaan,
Naging saksi natin ay ang Taguisian.

Tila ba talulot ng isang bulaklak
Labi **** sa akin na nangangagtapat;
Animo'y pabango yaong halimuyak,
Ng iyong hiningang sa halik nangganyak.

Ika-labinlima, araw ng Pebrero,
Hindi malimutan ating naging tagpo;
Sa iyong tuluya'y nagkasama tayo,
Doon sa Kwek Kwekan, nagdiwang ang puso.

Ako'y isang taong lubhang maramdamin,
Ang hapdi at kirot siyang tinitiim;
Puso ko'y tila ba 'sang pagong patpatin,
Sa loob ng dibdib sakit ang kapiling.

Kaya't nang makitang may kasamang iba,
Marahang lumason sa puso ko sinta
Ay ang panibugho't sakit na nadama;
At para maglaho, alak ay tinungga.

Sa ika-tatlumpu, na araw ng Marso,
Akin pang naalala pagbisita sayo,

Masasayang araw nating lumalagos

Animo'y balaraw yaong tumatama,
Nang ang mensahe mo ay aking nabasa;
Gusto kong umiyak, gusto kong magwala,
Ngunit, anong saysay gayung wala na nga?

Kung isaulan ko itong aking luha,
Masasayang lama't walang mapapala;
Kaya't kahit ibig, ako ay tumawa,
Wag lamang masadlak yaong pagdurusa.

Kung ang kalayaa'y siyang ibig sinta,
At ang saktan ako'y ikaliligaya

Ngunit, kung ito man ang itinadhana,
Aba'y pag-ibig ko't pag-ibig mo sinta,
Di makakahadlang sa ibig sumila.

Mahal ko paalam sa ating pag-ibig,
Mahal ko paalam, kahit na masakit;
Mga alaala'y huwag ng ibalik,
Burahin ng lahat sa puso at isip.

~WAKAS~

Gujarish hai bs mera humsafar har janam mile.

Ye saanse agar tham bhi jayein,

Aye mere sanam aap humesha mere sang rahein.

Ye uljhi hui haathon ki lakeer,

Aapke aane se sajti hai taqdeer.

Mere rom rom bs ek hi hai naam,

Daaman failaye fariyaad hai tujhse,

Humesha jode rakhna mujhe unse.

Wo mile sab kuch paa liya maine,

Aur kuch na ab mujhe chahiye.

Ankhiyon ko sukoon milta,

Jab chehra unka dikh jaata.

Is rani ki jaan tou hai wo raja,

Unhi ki badault meri maang mein sindoor saja.

Har koi chahta hai us aasmaan ke chaand ko,

Mera chaand tou mere paas humesha **.

Sajda karu mai unki is rooh ko,

Suche moti se bhi saacha hai unka dil wo.

Is dil ki saanse tou us dil se humesha humesha ke liye judi.

Wo saath hain tou mera khuda hai mere pass,

Behad pyaara hai unka aur mera dil ka har ehsaas.

Jab raakh ** jayegi ye kaaya meri,

Mujhe har pal sukoon pahuchayegi awaaz wo teri.

Saanse rahe na rahe mere saathiya,

Humesha mere sang rehna mere mahiya.

Jab umar ki ye naiya bhawar badal legi,

Chehre ki chamak apne rang badal degi.

Fir bhi aap humesha mere sang rehna,

Mujhe aapse bs yahi hai kehna.

Bikhre bikhre se they hum pehle,

Aapke aane se is zindagi mein phul khile.

Mere pass shabd hi nahi hain ki kaise us uparwale ka ,

Mai shukriya ada karu? Aap mile sab kuch mil gaya.

Jab ye waqt khafa hone lagega mujhse,

Ye duniya bhi saath chhor degi aas rhegi tujhse.

Har kadam par saath rehna mere sanam,

Tere siwa koi nahi hai mera humdum.

Ye qismat humari bhut khel hai khelti,

Dil ki dadhkane har pal aapko talaashti.

Chahe kaisa bhi ** manjar,

Zameenein hongi banjar.

Tab bhi mere sang rehna.

Bs yhi hai aapse kehna.

Aapke ye ardhangini humesha hai aapke saath,

Haathon mein liye hardum aapka haath.

Chahe waqt badle ya taqdeer khel khele,

Har pal aapki biwi milegi aapko lagaye seene se .

Kuch nahi chahiye humein,

Neele gagan ke neeche kahin bhi aapke sang rehle.

Bs aap saath rehna,

Itna hi mujhe kehna.
BOOK I

S.  Patrick. You who are bent, and bald, and blind,
With a heavy heart and a wandering mind,
Have known three centuries, poets sing,
Of dalliance with a demon thing.

Oisin. Sad to remember, sick with years,
The swift innumerable spears,
The horsemen with their floating hair,
And bowls of barley, honey, and wine,
Those merry couples dancing in tune,
And the white body that lay by mine;
But the tale, though words be lighter than air.
Must live to be old like the wandering moon.

Caoilte, and Conan, and Finn were there,
When we followed a deer with our baying hounds.
With Bran, Sceolan, and Lomair,
And passing the Firbolgs' burial-motmds,
Came to the cairn-heaped grassy hill
Where passionate Maeve is stony-still;
And found On the dove-grey edge of the sea
A pearl-pale, high-born lady, who rode
On a horse with bridle of findrinny;
And like a sunset were her lips,
A stormy sunset on doomed ships;
A citron colour gloomed in her hair,

But down to her feet white vesture flowed,
And with the glimmering crimson glowed
Of many a figured embroidery;
And it was bound with a pearl-pale shell
That wavered like the summer streams,
As her soft ***** rose and fell.

S.  Patrick. You are still wrecked among heathen dreams.

Oisin. "Why do you wind no horn?' she said
"And every hero droop his head?
The hornless deer is not more sad
That many a peaceful moment had,
More sleek than any granary mouse,
In his own leafy forest house
Among the waving fields of fern:
The hunting of heroes should be glad.'

'O pleasant woman,' answered Finn,
"We think on Oscar's pencilled urn,
And on the heroes lying slain
On Gabhra's raven-covered plain;
But where are your noble kith and kin,
And from what country do you ride?'

"My father and my mother are
Aengus and Edain, my own name
Niamh, and my country far
Beyond the tumbling of this tide.'

"What dream came with you that you came
Through bitter tide on foam-wet feet?
Did your companion wander away
From where the birds of Aengus wing?'
Thereon did she look haughty and sweet:
"I have not yet, war-weary king,
Been spoken of with any man;
Yet now I choose, for these four feet
Ran through the foam and ran to this
That I might have your son to kiss.'

"Were there no better than my son
That you through all that foam should run?'

"I loved no man, though kings besought,
Until the Danaan poets brought
Rhyme that rhymed upon Oisin's name,
And now I am dizzy with the thought
Of all that wisdom and the fame
Of battles broken by his hands,
Of stories builded by his words
That are like coloured Asian birds
At evening in their rainless lands.'

O Patrick, by your brazen bell,
There was no limb of mine but fell
Into a desperate gulph of love!
'You only will I wed,' I cried,
"And I will make a thousand songs,
And set your name all names above,
And captives bound with leathern thongs
Shall kneel and praise you, one by one,
At evening in my western dun.'

"O Oisin, mount by me and ride
To shores by the wash of the tremulous tide,
Where men have heaped no burial-mounds,
And the days pass by like a wayward tune,
Where broken faith has never been known
And the blushes of first love never have flown;
And there I will give you a hundred hounds;
No mightier creatures bay at the moon;
And a hundred robes of murmuring silk,
And a hundred calves and a hundred sheep
Whose long wool whiter than sea-froth flows,
And a hundred spears and a hundred bows,
And oil and wine and honey and milk,
And always never-anxious sleep;
While a hundred youths, mighty of limb,
But knowing nor tumult nor hate nor strife,
And a hundred ladies, merry as birds,
Who when they dance to a fitful measure
Have a speed like the speed of the salmon herds,
Shall follow your horn and obey your whim,
And you shall know the Danaan leisure;
And Niamh be with you for a wife.'
Then she sighed gently, "It grows late.
Music and love and sleep await,
Where I would be when the white moon climbs,
The red sun falls and the world grows dim.'

And then I mounted and she bound me
With her triumphing arms around me,
And whispering to herself enwound me;
He shook himself and neighed three times:
Caoilte, Conan, and Finn came near,
And wept, and raised their lamenting hands,
And bid me stay, with many a tear;
But we rode out from the human lands.
In what far kingdom do you go'
Ah Fenians, with the shield and bow?
Or are you phantoms white as snow,
Whose lips had life's most prosperous glow?
O you, with whom in sloping vallcys,
Or down the dewy forest alleys,
I chased at morn the flying deer,
With whom I hurled the hurrying spear,
And heard the foemen's bucklers rattle,
And broke the heaving ranks of battle!
And Bran, Sceolan, and Lomair,
Where are you with your long rough hair?
You go not where the red deer feeds,
Nor tear the foemen from their steeds.

S.  Patrick. Boast not, nor mourn with drooping head
Companions long accurst and dead,
And hounds for centuries dust and air.

Oisin. We galloped over the glossy sea:
I know not if days passed or hours,
And Niamh sang continually
Danaan songs, and their dewy showers
Of pensive laughter, unhuman sound,
Lulled weariness, and softly round
My human sorrow her white arms wound.
We galloped; now a hornless deer
Passed by us, chased by a phantom hound
All pearly white, save one red ear;
And now a lady rode like the wind
With an apple of gold in her tossing hand;
And a beautiful young man followed behind
With quenchless gaze and fluttering hair.
"Were these two born in the Danaan land,
Or have they breathed the mortal air?'

"Vex them no longer,' Niamh said,
And sighing bowed her gentle head,
And sighing laid the pearly tip
Of one long finger on my lip.

But now the moon like a white rose shone
In the pale west, and the sun'S rim sank,
And clouds atrayed their rank on rank
About his fading crimson ball:
The floor of Almhuin's hosting hall
Was not more level than the sea,
As, full of loving fantasy,
And with low murmurs, we rode on,
Where many a trumpet-twisted shell
That in immortal silence sleeps
Dreaming of her own melting hues,
Her golds, her ambers, and her blues,
Pierced with soft light the shallowing deeps.
But now a wandering land breeze came
And a far sound of feathery quires;
It seemed to blow from the dying flame,
They seemed to sing in the smouldering fires.
The horse towards the music raced,
Neighing along the lifeless waste;
Like sooty fingers, many a tree
Rose ever out of the warm sea;
And they were trembling ceaselessly,
As though they all were beating time,
Upon the centre of the sun,
To that low laughing woodland rhyme.
And, now our wandering hours were done,
We cantered to the shore, and knew
The reason of the trembling trees:
Round every branch the song-birds flew,
Or clung thereon like swarming bees;
While round the shore a million stood
Like drops of frozen rainbow light,
And pondered in a soft vain mood
Upon their shadows in the tide,
And told the purple deeps their pride,
And murmured snatches of delight;
And on the shores were many boats
With bending sterns and bending bows,
And carven figures on their prows
Of bitterns, and fish-eating stoats,
And swans with their exultant throats:
And where the wood and waters meet
We tied the horse in a leafy clump,
And Niamh blew three merry notes
Out of a little silver trump;
And then an answering whispering flew
Over the bare and woody land,
A whisper of impetuous feet,
And ever nearer, nearer grew;
And from the woods rushed out a band
Of men and ladies, hand in hand,
And singing, singing all together;
Their brows were white as fragrant milk,
Their cloaks made out of yellow silk,
And trimmed with many a crimson feather;
And when they saw the cloak I wore
Was dim with mire of a mortal shore,
They fingered it and gazed on me
And laughed like murmurs of the sea;
But Niamh with a swift distress
Bid them away and hold their peace;
And when they heard her voice they ran
And knelt there, every girl and man,
And kissed, as they would never cease,
Her pearl-pale hand and the hem of her dress.
She bade them bring us to the hall
Where Aengus dreams, from sun to sun,
A Druid dream of the end of days
When the stars are to wane and the world be done.

They led us by long and shadowy ways
Where drops of dew in myriads fall,
And tangled creepers every hour
Blossom in some new crimson flower,
And once a sudden laughter sprang
From all their lips, and once they sang
Together, while the dark woods rang,
And made in all their distant parts,
With boom of bees in honey-marts,
A rumour of delighted hearts.
And once a lady by my side
Gave me a harp, and bid me sing,
And touch the laughing silver string;
But when I sang of human joy
A sorrow wrapped each merry face,
And, patrick! by your beard, they wept,
Until one came, a tearful boy;
"A sadder creature never stept
Than this strange human bard,' he cried;
And caught the silver harp away,
And, weeping over the white strings, hurled
It down in a leaf-hid, hollow place
That kept dim waters from the sky;
And each one said, with a long, long sigh,
"O saddest harp in all the world,
Sleep there till the moon and the stars die!'

And now, still sad, we came to where
A beautiful young man dreamed within
A house of wattles, clay, and skin;
One hand upheld his beardless chin,
And one a sceptre flashing out
Wild flames of red and gold and blue,
Like to a merry wandering rout
Of dancers leaping in the air;
And men and ladies knelt them there
And showed their eyes with teardrops dim,
And with low murmurs prayed to him,
And kissed the sceptre with red lips,
And touched it with their finger-tips.
He held that flashing sceptre up.
"Joy drowns the twilight in the dew,
And fills with stars night's purple cup,
And wakes the sluggard seeds of corn,
And stirs the young kid's budding horn,
And makes the infant ferns unwrap,
And for the peewit paints his cap,
And rolls along the unwieldy sun,
And makes the little planets run:
And if joy were not on the earth,
There were an end of change and birth,
And Earth and Heaven and Hell would die,
And in some gloomy barrow lie
Folded like a frozen fly;
Then mock at Death and Time with glances
And wavering arms and wandering dances.

"Men's hearts of old were drops of flame
That from the saffron morning came,
Or drops of silver joy that fell
Out of the moon's pale twisted shell;
But now hearts cry that hearts are slaves,
And toss and turn in narrow caves;
But here there is nor law nor rule,
Nor have hands held a weary tool;
And here there is nor Change nor Death,
But only kind and merry breath,
For joy is God and God is joy.'
With one long glance for girl and boy
And the pale blossom of the moon,
He fell into a Druid swoon.

And in a wild and sudden dance
We mocked at Time and Fate and Chance
And swept out of the wattled hall
And came to where the dewdrops fall
Among the foamdrops of the sea,
And there we hushed the revelry;
And, gathering on our brows a frown,
Bent all our swaying bodies down,
And to the waves that glimmer by
That sloping green De Danaan sod
Sang, "God is joy and joy is God,
And things that have grown sad are wicked,
And things that fear the dawn of the morrow
Or the grey wandering osprey Sorrow.'

We danced to where in the winding thicket
The damask roses, bloom on bloom,
Like crimson meteors hang in the gloom.
And bending over them softly said,
Bending over them in the dance,
With a swift and friendly glance
From dewy eyes:  "Upon the dead
Fall the leaves of other roses,
On the dead dim earth encloses:
But never, never on our graves,
Heaped beside the glimmering waves,
Shall fall the leaves of damask roses.
For neither Death nor Change comes near us,
And all listless hours fear us,
And we fear no dawning morrow,
Nor the grey wandering osprey Sorrow.'

The dance wound through the windless woods;
The ever-summered solitudes;
Until the tossing arms grew still
Upon the woody central hill;
And, gathered in a panting band,
We flung on high each waving hand,
And sang unto the starry broods.
In our raised eyes there flashed a glow
Of milky brightness to and fro
As thus our song arose:  "You stars,
Across your wandering ruby cars
Shake the loose reins:  you slaves of God.
He rules you with an iron rod,
He holds you with an iron bond,
Each one woven to the other,
Each one woven to his brother
Like bubbles in a frozen pond;
But we in a lonely land abide
Unchainable as the dim tide,
With hearts that know nor law nor rule,
And hands that hold no wearisome tool,
Folded in love that fears no morrow,
Nor the grey wandering osprey Sorrow.'

O Patrick! for a hundred years
I chased upon that woody shore
The deer, the badger, and the boar.
O patrick! for a hundred years
At evening on the glimmering sands,
Beside the piled-up hunting spears,
These now outworn and withered hands
Wrestled among the island bands.
O patrick! for a hundred years
We went a-fishing in long boats
With bending sterns and bending bows,
And carven figures on their prows
Of bitterns and fish-eating stoats.
O patrick! for a hundred years
The gentle Niamh was my wife;
But now two things devour my life;
The things that most of all I hate:
Fasting and prayers.

S.  Patrick. Tell On.

Oisin. Yes, yes,
For these were ancient Oisin's fate
Loosed long ago from Heaven's gate,
For his last days to lie in wait.
When one day by the tide I stood,
I found in that forgetfulness
Of dreamy foam a staff of wood
From some dead warrior's broken lance:
I tutned it in my hands; the stains
Of war were on it, and I wept,
Remembering how the Fenians stept
Along the blood-bedabbled plains,
Equal to good or grievous chance:
Thereon young Niamh softly came
And caught my hands, but spake no word
Save only many times my name,
In murmurs, like a frighted bird.
We passed by woods, and lawns of clover,
And found the horse and bridled him,
For we knew well the old was over.
I heard one say, "His eyes grow dim
With all the ancient sorrow of men';
And wrapped in dreams rode out again
With hoofs of the pale findrinny
Over the glimmering purple sea.
Under the golden evening light,
The Immortals moved among thc fountains
By rivers and the woods' old night;
Some danced like shadows on the mountains
Some wandered ever hand in hand;
Or sat in dreams on the pale strand,
Each forehead like an obscure star
Bent down above each hooked knee,
And sang, and with a dreamy gaze
Watched where the sun in a saffron blaze
Was slumbering half in the sea-ways;
And, as they sang, the painted birds

Kept time with their bright wings and feet;
Like drops of honey came their words,
But fainter than a young lamb's bleat.

"An old man stirs the fire to a blaze,
In the house of a child, of a friend, of a brother.
He has over-lingered his welcome; the days,
Grown desolate, whisper and sigh to each other;
He hears the storm in the chimney above,
And bends to the fire and shakes with the cold,
While his heart still dreams of battle and love,
And the cry of the hounds on the hills of old.

But We are apart in the grassy places,
Where care cannot trouble the least of our days,
Or the softness of youth be gone from our faces,
Or love's first tenderness die in our gaze.
The hare grows old as she plays in the sun
And gazes around her with eyes of brightness;
Before the swift things that she dreamed of were done
She limps along in an aged whiteness;
A storm of birds in the Asian trees
Like tulips in the air a-winging,
And the gentle waves of the summer seas,
That raise their heads and wander singing,
Must murmur at last, ""Unjust, unjust';
And ""My speed is a weariness,' falters the mouse,
And the kingfisher turns to a ball of dust,
And the roof falls in of his tunnelled house.
But the love-dew dims our eyes till the day
When God shall come from the Sea with a sigh
And bid the stars drop down from the sky,
And the moon like a pale rose wither away.'

NOW, man of croziers, shadows called our names
And then away, away, like whirling flames;
And now fled by, mist-covered, without sound,
The youth and lady and the deer and hound;
"Gaze no more on the phantoms,' Niamh said,
And kissed my eyes, and, swaying her bright head
And her bright body, sang of faery and man
Before God was or my old line began;
Wars shadowy, vast, exultant; faeries of old
Who wedded men with rings of Druid gold;
And how those lovers
