Lone Bone Tree Apr 2020
Candied truth crushed
Between the teeth of its listener,
Whose lips curl and simper
At the drop of a dime.

I've tasted your cherry red lips,
Fallen headfirst into your river of madness,
And for a time, I've sung your praises and danced your routine
To fulfil fantasies that were yours, never mine.

You ended the game with an equally sanguine smile,
Moved your factory halfway across town,
And shuttered your doors gently.
I stood there till dawn.

Baby,
Your lies are the sweetest in the world
And the ticket that you gave me,
I thought it gold.

You
Used to talk softly, then yelled louder than the
Thumping blood through my veins.
You made sense and weaved tales into my
Fizzling brain, made me look up at the clouds and
Dream
That I was as bright as the Milky Way.
But now I know. I walk on solid ground, I know that chasing
Stars that are light-years away
Is so futile.
I woke up from a daydream and stumbled to a halt and looked up to you, the
Voice in my head.
Hello World.
