The albatross once filled the skies
Cormorants watched silent, from the shore
These are echoes of times long ago
There's nothing here for them any more

The coastline littered with sunken ships
Villages full of ghosts
Empty buildings and empty lives
Where just the sea gulls act as hosts

Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out past the breakers and out to the sea
Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out on the Ocean, where my soul is set free

The cod stocks have dwindled
There was no need to stay
There's no catch of the day, son
From here to Gaspe'

The canneries shuttered
The landscape has changed
I may be a sailor
But, my life's rearranged

Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out past the breakers and out to the sea
Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out on the Ocean, where my soul is set free

The Grand Banks are empty
Our boats are in hock
There's nothing that grows here
Except depression and rock

While others moved onward
I'll stay 'till I'm dead
Now, I feed off the tourists
I work the casinos instead

Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out past the breakers and out to the sea
Oceans away lads, Oceans away
Out on the Ocean, where my soul is set free

The salt air still calls me
The wind in my sails
The sound of the rigging
Heading off to Kinsale

The coastline is empty
Where Ghost towns now stand
It used to be vibrant
But now just sea grass and sand

Oceans Away Lads, Oceans Away
On out past the breakers, and out to the see
Oceans away lads, Oceans Away
I still am a sailor, and I always will be
Look in the mirror
And realise
You're staring into
Someone else's eyes.
This one is for the mothers
For the sisters of yesterdays husbands
For the girls I'll never know

This one is for the stranger
In the grocery store
Slamming down the apples
Hoping they bruise as much
As he bruised her
Because we're all just
Rotten produce in the long run
Anyway

This one is for the CEO of Corporate America
That cheats at the office
And at life
That skips the basketball games
Of sons that weren't really his
In the first place
To work extra hours
Triple over time
Which is really just code for
Bonking the receptionist
On the table in the lobby area
And she'll think slyly
While he pulls her hair
Enjoy the ******,
*******

This one is for those sad eyes
I pass every day
Holding out a tin can
Jingling to the beat
Of copper plated plastic
Or whatever the ****
Our money is made from,
These days
Screaming for change
And I always saunter by
With a pocket full of pennies
Thinking
I wish I could give him
The kind of change
He really needs

This one is for the alcoholic
Better known as my brother
This is for the man that still tries
To drink away his heartache
With a case of Natty Ice
For the man who can't
Hang on to a dollar
More than a minute
Because he can't take the money
With him to heaven
Or to hell, probably hell,
And tomorrow was never really
Promised to us,
Was it?

This one is for the woman
Who spent thirty years
Behind a register
Pretending it wasn't really
All that her life
Had to offer
This is for the woman
With the thinnest skin
I've ever seen
The woman who let the world
Break her
On a daily basis
This one is for
My mother

This one is for that ****** up girl
Who is beginning to think
That love and hate
Are the same emotion
With different masks
For the girl who always wanted
A drug addiction
To blame her problems on
For the girl who never gave up
On anyone
But herself
This one, this is for the girl
That writes to no one
This is for the girl with no goals
No ambition
No dreams
This one is for the girl
With a broken heart
And a broken smile
Wondering what she did
To deserve this life

This one, this poem
Is the only one
I've ever written
For me

don't belittle me this.

why a kiss with a fist?

"cuz he loves me", as if.

"its with passion he hits"

sure to keep you on his.

"why do you care of it"

because I care of you.

"all you want is a *****!!!"

then why have I spent these years waiting for you?

knowing full well id be tainted by you?

the act you assume of me binds me to you.

I'm a pacifist willing to take pain from you.

"hes all that I need"

you need only to bled?

hes no job, your the funds.

hes a slob, cleaning fun?

hes a cheat, gave you ******.

yet you defend him on all these.

........"but I love him."

is that all that maters?, no surely....

"it is and that's that!!!!"

may I use the term brat?

"you may is that all?"

its shiny
its rusty
its the first thing
she grabbed
when she felt pain within
because its better
to match the way she felt
on the inside
to how she looked on the outside
and who could forget
that feeling
of the silver blade
sliding down her arm
and the crimson red blood weeping from her cuts
as she becomes alive again
as the feeling from the blade
sent electricity down her spine.

its coincidental that we are reading The Scarlet Letter in class
it goes hand and hand with my regrets
a constant reminder.

rather than eating away at me
the guilt grows inside of me
except it lasts more than nine months.

similar to Chillingworth my soul is "lonely and chill"
i've tossed aside every good thing
like a scratched record or old worn-down novels.

there's a strange illusion between who i am and who i appear to be
like my favorite halloween costume
except there are no treats only tricks.

i'd be Hester Prynne's best friend
we could relate and count our flaws like astronomers count the stars
we'd compare who is worse
us or satan.

she wears her "A" i wear my smile
but we both wear shame as well as we wear our favorite dress
every lie threaded together to form the perfect sin
the same gown we wear on our deathbed.

the secrets flow within my veins
sometimes i wonder where all my blood has gone
it dropped to my feet making them deadweights
except the only weight is the consequences on my shoulders.

guilt.
I'm surrounded by trees and empty fields
and the monotonous draw of everyday day life.
But the trees they are beautiful,
they'll shadow my fears without a shadow of doubt.
But only the trees.
The trees.
Man is too self-absorbed to be truly affectionate.
Man cannot help, with words.
My lovely trees.
They do not speak.
They do not move.
They stand a silent justification to mother earth and all she has done.
We suffer at our sense of loss,
we are frightened by the rage,
we are guilty in the face of rejection,
we are hurt by choice of isolation
and we are confused by the message.
We give in
We give up
We start to slip, but the noose holds us back
We are wrong, yet justifiably right
We’re scared no one cared
Did they really ever care?
Whats the point? who am I? why am I? what am i?
So scared to lose yet too shy to succeed
The fear of fear always left me scared
Nothing more nothing less,
The significance of others
makes me feel significantly less significant
than the insignificant others
fight wars for freedom
enslaved in our minds from the battles
the torture, the evil
the only death known is violent, yet suicide seems so peaceful.
