sunrise sounds like the earth itself is waking

crack the back
     and rise

i lick the dust from my lips

     the taste of iron
     salt
          stardust

communion

this dirt is my altar

     the flora
my patroned saints
     the fauna
my goddess in swing
     the wind

my baptismal cleanse

     oh

and i

the wide eyed game-trail wanderer
     child of mud and snow
it's of the earth i'm crafted
and back to the stars that i'll go

i dropped to my knees
digging deep for water
and felt the clay take shape beneath my fingers

this place
     this is home

so from the dust i sculpted doorways
          and windows
          and halls
     lifted up walls
and made myself a castle out of the sand

now i drink beer at the edge of paradise
and ask the thirsty to come inside
     and play in the shade

i never ask them to stay
but neither do i point them towards the door
it's tough work tending to a secret garden- what good is a secret, with no one to whisper it to.

war is
behind glass
a silver screen
composed of pixels

war is
in movies
muted bombs,
a silent scream

war is
a newsflash
on twitter,
about a country
far, far away

war is
insignificant
easily dismissed

for us.

but for them,

war is losing everyone they love
war is hiding with bated breath
war is a constant ache in their bellies
war is a bleeding throat
war is not being able to protect
war is breathing dust tinged with dried blood

it's not knowing whether the person in front of them will see tomorrow
it's the feeling of ruin when they see their house go up in smoke
it's the taste of blood when they bite their tongue to stop from screaming

war is praying to be able to see the sun rise again the next day

war is not a silver screen
not pixels dancing
not a link on their newsfeed

war is real.

Just think of it this way,
You are stronger now
Beacause of what they did
That made you fall too hard.

Listen to me
You no longer  have
To fear
For they are wrong
And you are amazing
They don't know what they are
Talking about
For you are not any of the names
They have called you
You are an amazing person
Don't let them change that
Never be afraid to admit something
For I will never make fun of you
Please don't be afraid

It would have been a great poem, but my cat had other ideas.

I feel like a foreigner
standing on a pier
waiting for word from a lover
across the blue water of tears.
A sad day. We stand with France.

World War 1 World War 2, World War 3 will soon be here
Pretend it isn't so, all your mirth will disappear
-
Pretend it isn't so, skip along your merry way
The Antichrist will come, and you he's going to flay
-
Pretend it isn't so, keep your head stuck in the sand
Pay no attention to the news, while the flames WAR are fanned
-
Deep down in a bunker, there's a button that is red
They can't wait to push this button...very soon you will be dead
-
The button launches missiles, thousands of them fly
An atomic bomb on every one, mushroom clouds rise to the sky
-
Pretend it isn't so, the obvious deny
Soon very soon, you will weep and wail and cry
