And slowly growing,                                                           And quickly lost,
Behold my mind,                                                                Rebuild my mind,
Crawling with doubts and fear,              Construct with patience and joy,
Panicked, rushed ageing,                                   Considered, careful youth,
To cope,                                                                                                  To love,
To forget,                                                                                            To thrive,
To move on,                                                                                         To keep,
To extinguish the corruption,                      To maintain a new innocence,
Or disguise it with worse,                                    And protect it with smile,
My head filled with dark,                                         Cross my shaking lips,
Emptiness,                                                                                          Freedom,
Swimming in twisting mess,                            Running wherever I please,
Knots of double-helix,                                           Imagined strands of hair,
Tied to keep myself,                                                  Let down to let myself,
Separate from myself.                                                  Escape from my past.

If you don't understand
the calm that comes with driving
as the sun starts to peak over the edge
of the earth,
and watching the sky change
colors every minute,
than I suggest that on a day
off work,
wake up early and go get some
breakfast, or coffee.
Smoke a cigarette or a joint,
or both.
Meet the morning people,
they smile more.
See how much more time there
really is in a day.

You will not be disappointed.

The lone stark bugle cry—
Horn of the great mountain elk,
Ripples down cold through morning
Dusted wood as the mushrooming dews
Drop into dearly waded pools under
Fawning toes of forage and cool
Evergreen.

Choppy Seas

i waltzed through fields of sunburnt grass
that crunched like leaves beneath my feet.
the sky, ablaze, was bleeding orange
and red. i searched for stars with cloudy
eyes. the more i walked, the less
i saw, until i reached the shore.
the ocean floor was lined with dust
that ached to flutter up my legs.
i felt my heart melt in the sand,
before long, it was dark. i fought
to turn away, but riptides spun
my mind. a cluttered head and broken
jaw, i splashed and kicked to be
set free. i sunk like anchors off
a ship, that long to float away.

Okay, okay,
Enough scribbling
About old flames,
Old friends,
All the analogies to death,
E.R. runs, hospices,
Palliatives, Vision Nursing Homes,
Black gloves and lilies,
Suicides and terrorists.
Enough of that
Already.
Now,
What's left to theme about?
Just love.
The error is
   somewhere between
                  the keyboard
                           and the chair
True story.
