I awoke this morning before the dawn.
You were gone.
You forgot to turn the coffee-maker on.
Ai.

a deep coldness, it resides
between the light & the day
& the birth of another night
a star already gone, a moon
smiling, saving the sun
pink skies, how they bleed
intoxicating light, at each
sun down

dusk transforms, magic
black sky, star light
star bright, how I pray
on thee each
& every night, first sight
night fades, an awakening dawn
a birds first call, branches
all a clatter

blue bells blossom, another
voice, an over grown lawn
life comes into, its
very own bloom
a resounding reminder, each day
to be lived, survived, surpassed

laying my head, each night
open eyes, clearest of skies
living for each day, imagine
prayers wishing, oh continue
to only bless me

I don't need much, love
a mind playing, resting still
a dreamer, oh the idealist in me
another passing day, whispers
each day
a new step, a new lease
of life

voices infiltrate, body, soul
mind, like sand
not a place unturned
morning prayer, nightly promise
just another day
just
another
day.

A B Perales
I applied my
selfish heart
to search and
seek out
the reason
of things.

When I sought
out the wicked
I did not shutter.

When I stared and
walked with the
mad I did not
stumble.

When I came upon
the woman whose
heart is snares,
I shuttered then
stumbled.

Adding one to the
other I went mad
as I became entwined
within the wicked.

I'll say after a
good amount of
searching and reading,
conversating and listening.
That maybe its the mad ones
who sit like statues on the steps
facing Beacon street,
who may be the only
ones who really
know the truth.

There's that way we
are all supposed to be
and that cruel myth that is
happiness.
The tales they
tell as truths keep
me seeking out the
whys while beating
back the reasons.

Material joys can
numb it,
but its the drugs
that **** the pain,
new cars don't.

Let the masses look
to their religions
let it act as their ******.
For my gods are
closest when danger
is near.

There's not enough answers,
just as there are no
real Saints in
San Pedro.
As far as I can
tell.

Friends may come and go
but it's the addictions
who remain reliable.
Where people hurt
drugs comfort.

Put me in charge
of this destiny,
I've guided it thus far
through the foggy mornings
and forgotten nights.
The short lived happy times
and the hardest of times
that always outshine
them all
on paper.

Allow me a little
control of
this destiny,
however short lived
that destiny
may become.

just to be clear,
i will not give up on you.
i will not fail you.

i will not be the one
   to fail you.
i will not.

stand stoically behind a shield
if you must,
call a retreat
turn your back.

i don't care.

i will still be here
no revenge in my heart
no desire to cut you down

i will not be the one to give up on you.
of all the people to fail you,
i will not be counted among them.

i don't know how to be anything
other than true and fierce,
and for you i will do what i must.
for you i can do what is best,
because you are you.

and there will never be a day
that light breaks upon this earth
that i don't love you.

Good job!
You went to church for Grama on Sunday

...And you texted the whole service

Good job!
You helped out and watched your siblings

...And showed them R-rated movies

Good job!
You wore a Bible verse T-shirt to school

...After buying it with stolen cash

Good job!
You got a purity cross necklace to wear

...Then "hooked up" that same night

Good job!
You got a brand new Bible

...And stored it under your bed with the rest of your " junk"

Good job!
You visited your church's website

...And bookmarked it right beneath *******

Good job!
You went to that Bible-study group

...And afterward, to a party

Good job!
You turned down a smoke while you were there

...'Cause at the time you were just thirsty

Good job!
You prayed at the dinner table

...To get your turn over with for the week

Good job!
You call out to God before falling asleep

...To blame Him for your problems

Good job!
You plan on going to church again tomorrow

Just don't forget your cell-phone

Good job, Christian
Keep it up.

*from my Emerge collection, being poem #7. Please see the collection page itself.

This poem is one I've never felt quite satisfied with, yet it's a concept I want to address in this same basic form. Now that my poetry and mind has matured more, I may re-write this as a new poem addressing the issue I intended to in this one, in an improved, or heavier, more emotional, or more clear way. I'm not sure.
Line 18 originally said "under *******", but I thought that could come across as the bookmark bearing that name, rather than the new bookmark being beneath it in the least, to signify lesser priority as added weight to the hypocrisy.

I'm okay with you sharing my poetry, I just ask that you show courtesy by being honest and attributing it to my name. Thank you,
