Purple bats and evil cats and strangled ghosts that laugh
jet black cloaks, snickering blokes and witches that gaff

Pumpkin grins, talking garbage bins and all that moves
Halloween rhymes and pentacle signs with evil grooves

Children running from the shadows towards the gallows
skeleton molds on scaffolds, and specters in the shallow

Phantoms and demons, bogey men with haunting looks
talisman, walking totems, demon hags with spell books

Haunted houses, mummy spouses and imps that steal
cemetery moans and groans, stiffs that oink & squeal

We will all grow old one day

and many are at this stage already

the hours are rushing away

slipping into the edge of eternity

but solace your love shall give me

my heart weeps and the right words I can't say

I recall our days of youth we spent so rapturously

to sleep in peace now is all that I should pray
make some thing of the scratches and nibs,

home in on detail

and begin

to enjoy

the cuts and scrapings.
my beetle, dead, not buried. i keep them, yet it fell to the floor, mysteriously lost. we try to turn disasters round, here, knowing it will be found, some time. my dear sweet sexton, the burying kind.

i learn about sub soil, all things growing,

the logistics of death.

just stand and watch the season change, note the dew and separate ideas.   remember that you stand alone. are not alone from                                                  criticism and contradiction.

beetles here turn over, legs waving, we turn them back, then, it is all repeated.    empathy kicks in for all small folk who suffer,                                                    who cry in dark corners.

yet i have mislaid  the black beetle too.

it was some time ago we lost.the sexton.

that feeling, that .

arrives unexpected from darkness, some winters’ mornings,

opening the door to the sound of one black bran bird calling.

track four repeated. that

comes on waking finding peace and comfort bound in clean
linen.

arises with perfume, an uncertain memory.

it may be chemicals, peptides in the brain as love, what
ever the germ or warfare

I find no word to describe, no random feather nor dust on
my plate. pass a finger.

that feeling of trimmed nails upon the keys pounding
words and silences.

while music plays. that feeling. that.

syrup stings my tongue.
we listen to the rain early

with mixed feelings

there may not be gardening done today

there may be drawings

Is that a fairy on the lake?
No it's just a fishing rod
The firsherman was silent
He was sitting behind the reed
I feel a bit of sadness
I slowly walk past him
He smiles at my dog
Now I feel better
There may still be a little magic in this world
I hope he knows I was smiling too.
