The day was good,
the sun shining, a breeze
winding around the pines.
Two mockingbirds
were playing
guess me.

Cumuli loitered
above ground shadows
with cats jumping
from one to the other
in a game that only
they understood.

I felt the stirring of precipitate
motion on my cheek as a shadow
passed by whispersing the words
of an old song by Townes
about going down to see Kathleen.
I never meant for it to rain.

INTRODUCTION
someone's following you online here,
and you want to know why
Well, here's why...take your pick

POSSIBILITIES*

1)
Oh, I follow you because you look good
and though I never read your poems
I come back often
year after year
to see if you age at all

2)
you don't use your real name
you use a moniker or pseudonym -
and I'm just  going by the desperate hope
you are Obama or Putin incognito
and you might give me asylum one day
if I'm outlawed by one or the other

3)
I'm in jail for life
and this is the only way I can stalk anyone

4)
I was hoping you'd reciprocate
and follow me too -
so why the hell don't you, hypocrite!?

5)
I'm your ****** boss in disguise
and I'm at this site keeping track
of how much office time you waste here,
you ****** loafer!

6)
I'm actually your wife
and I got a thing or two to say to you
about all those comments
you've written for the women here
Same old liar here and at home, aren't you?
Just wait till you get home...

7)
Well, I'm a ****** academic
who never gets creative
so I'm collecting all your poems
and I'll publish them in my name
and there'll be praise all round for me
as academic, and poet, and novelist too
(the novels I steal from my students)

8)
you scratch my back
I scratch yours

9)
Why do I follow you?* -
but aren't you my mum?
You never taught me
to let go of your apron strings

10)
actually, it was a mistake, see
I was on my smartphone and I went
tap, tap, tap
and my index finger fell on "Follow"
and I'm too darned lazy to set it right...
that's how I ended up following you

11)
My cult tells me
the Messiah is here at this site
so I just follow everyone
in case it happens to be you -
it is you, isn't it?
...poem above is just an exercise in imagination (sure, I've heard fiction may be truer than reality) ...exercise your own imagination - add a possibility (or more)  below, please
If God let nature pick out its colors
I'm sure the sky would still choose blue
And the deepest depths of the ocean
Would want to stay that color too

If the mountains took to long to decide
Their peaks would turn a snowy white
And the stars in all of their glory
Would still relish the black of the night

The green, green grass of the valleys
Would not want it any other way
Just like the yellow of the morning sun
On any given day

And the leaves on the trees in the cool fall breeze
Would be any color that they like
At any given moment in time
Is when they would decide

If God let nature choose its own colors
I'm sure they would all stay the same
Because God knew what he was doing
When he created it on that special day
When did life become the new Hollywood
and us actors playing a part
Who's directing what used to be a blockbuster
Which is now quickly becoming a flop

Who wrote this screenplay anyways
Possibly Stephen King?
Who taught us how and what to say
All these lines of make believe

Who holds up the Cue cards and hollers out action,
quiet on the set we're about to begin
Who chooses the leading ladies
and picks out the leading men

When was it most of us became stand ins
filling up space and time
Not even mentioned in the credits
A bit part in this life

By just surviving the daily we all should get Oscars
No matter the part we play
When did life become the new Hollywood
That my friend is hard to say
leave the lights on she said
i need to find a path wide open
see where my dreams are going

as she crawled into bed
folded the sheets into a kite
for a later flight

want you join me she said
holding out her hand
i took it on command

no way of knowing what comes next
as we both closed our eyes
and opened the sky
I had a reading by a Medium
who talked to my husband.
What is a Medium, I ask...
For I was clueless.
Why they are a psychic
who see and talk to a spirit
of a loved one perhaps?
Sure they do...
This is crazy...
But OK, I'll have a reading.
Well he saw my husband.
Did your husband like to garden?
Why yes he did.
So after a few more
why yes he dids
he told me that my husband
said to look for
a dragonfly and know that it
will be him sending me his love.
OK, thank you.
I hadn't seen a dragonfly in years.
so I left the building
walked to my car
and there sitting on the drivers side
of my car on the mirror was
a dragonfly...he fluttered his wings
as I stood and stared at him.
Then off he flew...
That was just the beginning.
They were everywhere after that.
I was working in my craft room
and looked up as one landed on
the screen of my window.
Just looking in, for at least 15 minutes.
At the swimming pool, one would
zoom on down by me as I was
in the water swimming.
It seemed that everywhere I went
After that reading by the Medium
I saw a dragonfly.
A coincidence? Perhaps...
But I DO BELIEVE
Because seeing a dragonfly
whether real or not, brought me comfort
and I could feel my husbands love...
I BELIEVE....

When you loose a family member to death, or even a friend,
sometimes something happens, whether real or not, to make you feel close to them...a silly old dragonfly worked for me last summer.
Growing up way back
when life was simple.
There were wringer wash machines.
On Monday morning I remember my mom
fill the wash machine with hot water.
Add soap powder, but watch or it will clump.
Then she added fels naptha soap
Which was a bar, and you sliced off
pieces for the extra ***** clothes.

SIMPLE?

Now she added the clothes
While they are agitating
You wait...
You have a second tub filled with hot water.
to transfer those clothes into, for rinsing.
You always used the same water over.
You started with white clothes,
then eventually by the time the
dark clothes  came around
the water looked pretty gross..

SIMPLE?

After rinsing you use that magical wringer.
Which is two rollers that sqeeze all the water out.
Time...it all takes time..
Then into the wash basket.

Laundry back when life was simple...

By then your basket if full of wet heavy clothes.
Out to the clothes line.
But first you had to run a dry cloth to wipe
the dirt off the clothes line.
Hanging up all that laundry
with those cute wooden clothes pins.
Not even clip ones were invented back then.
But the bag which held all the clothes pins
was real cute, it looked like a dress...

SIMPLE?

Socks, ******, shirts, slacks, towels,
oh those heavy towels
and my favorite the sheets.
Time, it takes time to dry those clothes.

Laundry back when life was simple.

Back then everything was ironed.
Starched and there was no spray starch,
or steam iron.
Mom would dip the collars of the shirts
into a bowl of starch,
and roll it up,
it was ready to be ironed.

Laundry back when life was simple...
How can that be a simple time.
I watched my mom and grandma
do this every Monday.
Starting early and it would be evening
when she would finally have
the clothes folded and put away...
The next day was for ironing.

~~~
SIMPLE?
We have the simple life
for now we can throw in a load, have it washed,
thrown in the dryer, and hung up
in a couple of hours.
Taking a coffee break in between
the washing and drying...
Do our kids know how easy they have it...this was not
my experience, but I watched my mom and grandma
do this every week...never giving it a second thought.
God Bless you moms and grandmas whose work
was never done....
