Love, I've fallen in
The idea, the thought of it.
Nothing more than that.

I need kisses
like a fish needs colored rocks
and a bear needs honey

I need it like
eyes need sunglasses
and skin needs sunscreen

Like people need chocolate
or french fries or fried food
or fast wi-fi or vacation

The thing about needing
- I don't
- It'd be nice though

god made stars
for starving poets

when they look up
they forget
how hungry they are

I was sitting there thinking about oneness.
I’m not sure what I was thinking about or if it could even be considered thinking in any kind of meaningful way.
It was just a vicious cycle…how, how not, how?
I was thinking so hard I let my hand brush the curve of my breast—and he noticed.
His eyes glanced and flickered and the flicker said,
“what just happened?
Was she thinking about something?
Was she thinking about me?
Was it for me?”
then he remembered I was contemplating oneness
and everyone else
was contemplating oneness
and this is not the time nor the place.
We all want to be liked
To have people see
The version of ourselves
We choose to be
And say, yeah
That's someone I admire
I aspire to be like
We all want someone
To look back on
The snapshots we've accrued
Over years of holidays,
***** nights,
And picture perfect food
And say, look
Here's someone who's got things sussed
We all want someone
To validate our lives
To comment that we're doing just fine
You're great
You're pretty
Your smart
Well, I guess that's a good start

We all want someone
To click that **** thumb
And validate the effort
Of keeping the mask on
She was happy to see daddy doing “better”
She couldn’t see the sunken face and the bags under his lazy eyes
Daddy would fall asleep driving with her in the car
She didn’t know this at the time until daddy almost went off the road
Daddy is the bad guys that you see in cartoons and comics
Daddy went back to the cold steel bars that he seemed to love more than his little girl
She told herself “This time you won’t fall for daddy’s lies”
She told herself “I don’t need him”
She listened to herself this time
Daddy is behind the cold bars
Waiting to be free again
His little girl is grown up
He missed out on his little girl’s life
Just to feel the rush of the high
The rush of being a bad guy
She knows who her daddy is
She’s seen his true colors
And it’s time for his little girl to say goodbye.
GoodBye Dad.
