Part 6
Selah Rose Jan 2020
I am courting the moon
Have you ever watched the moon?
I saw it weep and as it disappeared into the sky
I kissed its hair and whispered swollen words into the clouds
It taught me how to count the stars.
It said to me “you are the only something”
It looked at me like I alone existed in a sky full of nothing else
Secret smiles shared in the dark pressed between teeth
I’ll take you past my lips
I’ll swallow the earth
I’ll press myself into the darkest corners of my room and cry for the unknown
Remember me when we see the same moon

Balloon People

Balloons!
Balloon people.
People made from balloons.
What is the mood of the sky today?
This is the reminder that I too contain volumes
And I do not crush the grass beneath my feet
A tree dances to the piano cascading upward from the floor below
The music feels like a distant promise

sweet lady
Selah Rose Jan 2020
Cry into the moon when your ribs crack with the weight
My cancer lives in the brain
Haunts my dreams with smoke and faded curtains
Sleeps curled in the depths of my tea cup
“I want to be alone"
 Cries my fear
“Break my bones, sweet lady.
Carry my dust on your warmest breeze.
Take me, and we will live together in the sky.”
The moon, sufficiently charmed, lowers a rope and ties it around my rib cage.
She pulls and pulls
My rib cage ascends, but my feet remain firmly planted on the ground.
