"Et Tu Dule"
Sylvia Dacus Jan 2020
Words are the fiercest weapon.
They tear and wound and leave no trace.
And vanquish those who do not know…
They were the target in the first place.

But the deliverer of this syllable attack
Is the one who suffers most.
The deadly drip from a poisoned pen
Will likely **** its host.
For hate does grow…not fast or slow…but steady like a breath.
The septic end of a ****** pen
Will nick your soul to death.
I can't believe you bleeped out words like K + ILL and B + LOODY.  Insert the blanks.

Hell And Gone
Sylvia Dacus Jul 2019
Only one day between heaven and hell.
The darkness comes like a witch's spell.
It rips the heart till you fear it will bust.
**** those who say, "In God we trust."
We dangle alone in this scary place.
False hope makes you feel safe when you should be wary.
And when the terror slaps you in the face...
Better to run than tarry.
Hold on tight
While the light
Flows quickly through your fingers.
Gone and go...but Kiddo knows.
Because I had the chance to tell him so.

"When Up Isn't Up"
Sylvia Dacus Sep 2016
When up isn't up...
And down isn't down,
And the thoughts in your head
Spin round and around.
When every familiar thing I see
Has become an alien object to me.
When the air I breathe is solid, not gas
And things that were forever...no longer last.
When what I knew from time begun
Has evaporated...or started to run.
When chaos and confusion are all I see...
When there's nothing left but me.
It is the truth, we must all come to know.
This journey through life...is solo.
And the company we keep...
And the objects we claim...
Will lose their meaning
When we forfeit our name.
When we float like a cloud...
And stand deep like a tree...
When we stop all our running
And just learn to be.
When we grow beyond the puff and the stuff...
We become one with the universe.
And that is enough.

Truth
Sylvia Dacus Jan 2016
Anyone who tells painful lies
Should lose the ability to speak.
Their tongues should turn to crumbling stone...
Powdery sand...
To cover the havoc they reap.
Then everyone would know
Which way the wind doth blow.

Not Knowing
Sylvia Dacus May 2015
NOT KNOWING
Clouds your judgement…governs what you think.
Leads you places not wise…takes you to the brink.

NOT KNOWING
Destroys  your confidence…whispers lies in your ear.
Paints the world black and white…tells you what you want to hear.

NOT KNOWING
it was a dangerous path, I scurried in abandoned bliss.
The world opened its arms to me. The joy was mine to kiss.
I never looked for the evil…
NOT KNOWING
  It was all around.
So while I never suspected, it brought me to the ground.

You cannot fall if the world lies flat.
You cannot feel in your slumber.   No Seeing.  No going.
Just the occasional dream…
Perhaps you’re better off
NOT KNOWING.

The Dance Of Life
Sylvia Dacus May 2015
Tiny bits of me
Are scattered here and there.
I’m transported to a different space
With every burst of air.
The dance of life’s a dangerous game
Cause if you chose to play,
One unguarded moment
Can blow all of you away.
And can you feel in one place
But see from somewhere else?
While your heart sits safely on a shelf,
How can you find yourself?
Life is still a journey,
A dangerous, reckless race.
But whether you show your face
Or face your fears,
You can only dance with grace.

Scissors Of The Mind
Sylvia Dacus Apr 2015
Scissors of the mind..snip…snip.
Piecing together bits of life as I need to see it.
Cutting away the bad…the never had…the mistaken.
Leading me in a better direction…
Stepping over the bones of many a dead dream…
And finding the truth in reflection.
The secret is right there where I left it…
Neatly wrapped with ribbon securely tied.
I thought I was keeping it safe, but I lied.
I feel only the rip.
My fingers cannot release it, though I’ve often tried.
Scissors of the mind…snip…snip.

"Me"
Sylvia Dacus Apr 2015
Not sayin’ I saw it coming..
But when it came, I wasn’t surprised.
My Self already knew…
Something not quite right …around the eyes.
Blurring bits and taking hits and dancing round the truth.
The world you see is a fantasy.
It never gives you proof.
Answers flee down a dangerous path
But my spirit is my guide.
And being lost is worth the cost if I can find the truth inside.
Cause looking past the shadows…till a blur is all I see,
I take comfort in the knowledge
That the only real is me.

Tangles
Sylvia Dacus Apr 2015
Time runs a frantic race.
Chopping me up from place to place.
A recipe for chaotic stew...
A bit of him
A touch of you.
Make room for this...and making do.
And all the time, I'm thinking..."who?"

A different path runs through my mind.
A creative journey... mine to find.
But with each hopeful step
I'm pulled toward the ground
By tangles of brambles holding me down.
Other peoples' schemes, it seems, can rob me of my dreams.
Time does fly.
And all the time, I'm thinking..."why?"

It's very hard to find yourself...
Underneath the pieces
Of everyone else.

Crying On The Moon
Sylvia Dacus Mar 2015
Her narrow path kept winding as she hummed along in tune
To a song no one else heard, except her lover on the moon.
She skipped and ran and often fell,
But never wondered why
Some creatures fly to heaven and some simply die.
She listened to the others but they never heard her speak.
She was brave in her convictions but they thought of her as weak.
She tried to wear a normal hat but found it way too tight,
So she spread her tangled tendriled hair and found herself in flight.
It's a very lovely planet and she left it much too soon.
And though no one seemed to notice...
There was crying on the moon.
