The Clearing
Philip Mitchener Mar 2017
From the start there has been friction
for nearly as long as I have lived
the signs say that I'm going the wrong way
but I refuse to listen
I choose to fight the system
for the betterment of my life
people disagree with me for the sole purpose of conformity
because they think they know what is best for me
Things have always been uncertain
the path, the method, the destination, the purpose
but that will all change
because I say it will
because I will make it change
because I have found the clearing

The people of my life come in two
Those that question
Those that admire
each are of value to me
learning and defying
are my specialties
until now I've never been able to prove
that my way is worth the fighting
the blood, sweat, and tears
of this experience
until now, the clearing has eluded me

It has shown me what the real foe is
what needs to be done to fix it
Life is cannot be fantasized
love everything you fight for
fight for everything you love
in spite of short comings and failures
because everything is worth it when the clearing comes.

Apocalypse
Philip Mitchener Aug 2016
In this small world, there was prosperity,
In this small world, everyone was so full of glee,
The future was bright with light that could never be seen.

Then one woeful day, the stars had come,
On this fateful day, destruction had rung,
The stars in the sky made sure no one survived.

Many years had passed, one man alone,
Where would he go? No one could've known.
The world couldn't see the savior he would have been.

In this small world, where darkness would reign...
Can also be sung in a minor tone.

Despair
Philip Mitchener Jul 2016
My despair is a rainstorm,
that never stops.
It swamps out all my friends,
who are the sunshine,
in my life.

Thunder erupts from within,
when I can no longer hold it back.
Lightning strikes at my loved ones,
ever frightening them,
As the tempest tears through their hearts.

And when the storm settles,
and when the damage can be seen,
the fear in their eyes,
starts the rainstorm,
all over again.

Pain
Philip Mitchener Feb 2016
Pain is an ember that burns us down
It rips our hearts apart
It scars us for the better part of our lives
To be given and received
Shared amongst others
If not for pain
There would be no happiness
It is ours to keep until death
But let not it be the cause

If There Were Words
Philip Mitchener Feb 2016
If there were words to find
To describe you in kind
There would be none
For your magnificence shows more
Than the justice that
Words of you could ever have done

There are things that we wish undone and unsaid
Wishing that nail was never hit on the head
And though we can never change the past
We realize that we should never worry about them
Because time goes by too fast

Many a months ago
I was convinced the light would never show
That I had no place else to go
But then I met this wonderful young woman
Who was kind and caring with the heart of more than a dozen
So cheerful in her youth
Entirely the opposite of uncouth
Who lit my fire anew

If there were words to find
To describe you in kind
There would be none
Because you are the one
I need most right now
And I don’t know why or how
This will all go down

But I know one thing for sure
That you and I together
Dearest friend and sister
Will outshine all of the stars in the night sky
This was originally written for one of my closest friends, Trinity Monks. The word "sister" is used figuratively, as in how I see and feel about her towards me.
