when the trees shine, i shine.
like the headlights that pass when i look out the window. like the strike of a match, reflecting off the walls of a darkened room. like the touch of a mother, holding her daughter for the first time.
when the trees shine, i shine.
like the sun coming up on the lake in the morning. like the glow from a computer that lights up an empty office. like the face of a child opening a present on christmas morning.
when the trees shine, i shine
like the light from the streetlamps, that seeps in through the blinds. like the stars glinting brightly as i stare into the night sky. like the look in your eyes when they look back in mine
trying something new

As I sit on this bench
I contemplate the future

I imagine what I’ll do tomorrow

I think of what I’ll be when I’m older

I guess when I’ll die

I weigh the options of being alone of with the ones I love
And where I’ll be that final night

I think about the love I have

I think about the love I’ll have next year

Of all of these thoughts from this bench, the saddest is leaving it behind

Window

I watch the grass die
Right outside my window

First it’s green
Then it’s yellow
Then it’s brown

The next day I watch the rain fall right outside my window
And the grass grows back

First it’s brown
Then it’s yellow
Then it’s green

I’m out of inspiration
I need to get some more.
What’s my next step?
To the inspiration store!

The store is dark and damp
Not a person can be found.
I ring the bell on the desk
And wait for someone to come around.

But no one comes to help me,
So I stand there all alone.
I close my eyes and take a breath
And forget what I came here for.

I see your form in the trees

The leaves and twigs make up your shape

The light that leaks in fills up the rest of the blondes and blues of your hair

The limbs flail and twist in agony longing for something they can’t have

The roots tangle and fight like you insides begging for sustenance

The fallen leaves are your passion and love slowly withering in the dirt
Funny that I still think about it

Also this is a rough draft I’d love criticism on it!

Why do things that seem so far away,

Come to tempt us just for a moment,

Only to retreat back into the heaven they reside in.
I’m sorry

Someone came knocking at my door the other day
They rapped three times before coming inside
I opened up my arms as they fell in to me
The door remained open so the whole world could see
That this is happiness in its truest form
Two people together not wanting anymore
Yaaaaaay!

When you held my hand
last night inside of your bed
I felt whole again

When you look at me
and your hand brushes up mine
your smile is all

The hinges creak on the old wood door

As I stare into the dark upon your sullen face

I reach out only wanting you more

But I know this is the last time you’ll set foot in my place
Thanks for this one

The System
Ian Aug 2019
if there were nine planets
would the world be a better place?

why do we exclude those that are
smaller
colder
less than others?

why can’t we all be accepted into the solar system?

Just because someone says you’re
smaller
colder
less than others
doesn’t mean we all have to accept their view

so let’s go ahead and return
the ninth planet
let’s include the whole **** universe

looking down for a moment

only to look up again and have
your whole world
change

I miss waking up to you on my phone
Telling me i’m perfect
Telling me you miss me
Telling me you love me
Not so perfect was I?
Thank you Miley Cyrus
