"dadi" poems
Meri pyari daadi maa,
tumsa na h koi yaha.
tum ** mera saara jahan,
nahi kr skti tmhe shabdon m bayan.
tum ** meri aan,
tum ** mera amaan.
tum ** mera gumaan,
tumse ek baar fir milna, hai mera armaan.
roz sapno mai dekhti hu tmhe,
roz sapna toot jaata hai.
Kab aaogi saamne mere,
yahi soch soch ke ek aur din guzar jaata h.
rakhungi sada tumhe dil mai, banake apni shaan.

When my Dadi blinks,
She becomes nostalgic for,
Visions of Punjab.

When there were no T.V's or cell phones,
When the sky was sequined with stars.
After dinner, family members and neighbours would gather outside on stone benches and chairs,
News and gossip would be shared with keen interest......
Whose wife ran away with whom,
Who delivered a baby,
Who was getting married.
Songs from the latest movie would be sung,
Stories and anecdotes related,
It was fun.
We shared one apple and drank from the same bottle,
Are fruits like mangoes and guavas from the fruitcarts without washing them,
Nothing happened to us.
We never went to a playground,
We played football, cricket, marbles, seven stones and other games on the streets,
And if broke a window, we would run for our life.
We just popped in at our friends' house and shared their food, ate what was cooking in the kitchen, opened their fridges,
No formalities,
You didn't need a nanny to look after your children,
Extended family and neighbours helped out.
Everybody called the grandparents dadi or dadu,
The whole neighbourhood was one big happy family,
Those were the times.

Nahh ainkh khuli ,nahhh mai sunn paya...
Maa ke pait mai rehker bhi maina apna parivar ka pyaar paya...
Jab ainkh khuli ,toh roker pura hospital sirr per uthaya ....
Phir Papa ki godi mai sirr rakhker hee mujha thoda chain aaya....
Pheli baar ghar aake , thoda mann dagmagaya....
Aisa charitra maina apna hee parivaar mai h paaya...
School jane ki umar mai bhi...
Har parivaar ke sadasye ko hai maina satya...
Kabhi woh dila do, yaa kabhi yeh dilado hee harr baar hai chilaya...
Harr divas ko hamne pura harsh aur ullas ke sath banya....
Pyaar se sath rehna ka hee humna hamesha se wachan h khaya....
Sabke dhurr jana ke baad bhi....
Maine apna parivaar ko hee paas paya...
Harrr sukh dukh mai unhona hee mujha sabke sath rehna sikhaya...
Apna parivaar se dhurr jake bhi...
Maina uhna harrr jagah h paaya...
Jo maina apna parivaar ka itna pyaar h paaya...
Maarte wakt bhi mera parivaar ne hee mujha kahnde per uthaya...
Ainshu aur apni yaadeino ko bhula krr hee mujha mera parivaar ne jalaya....

la bussola va impazzita all'avventura
Oh l'orizzonte in fuga, dove s'accende
rara la luce della petroliera!
Il varco è qui? (ripullula il frangente
ancora sulla balza che scoscende... ).
Tu non ricordi la casa di questa
mia sera. Ed io non so chi va e chi resta.

My grandson will be eighteen this July,
He shares a birthday with Mr.Nelson Mandela on the 18th,
He asked me,"Dadi(granny) what is the difference between you and me
My Love, you are the sunrise,
You have to shine brightly a long way,
Giving your best to life,
Whilst I am the sunset
Retired,
Both beautiful and unique in our own ways.

Dadi in Gujarati means grandmother,
Father''s mother
And daddy is father pronounced the same.
When my granddaughter was four she refused to call me Dadi,
Insisting her daddy was my son.
Tears swelled in her eyes,
So I pacified her,
I told her I was her daddy's mother so she could call me Dadima.
So I am Dadima to my son's children,
And Nanima to my daughter's children.
