La Vie en Rose
Words Echo Jan 2015
Your whispers in French
made me forget
I don't know how to dance.
And I wondered,
if he could smell your raspberry bubble bath skin
would Louis Armstrong sing just for you
like you sang just for me
in the corner where we built our blanket fort,
where the lamp on the floor
was the only light in the room
besides the one in your eyes
whenever I spun you around
And I just know
if I had a voice like his
we would still be dancing.

Bon Appetit
Words Echo Jan 2015
Watching her cook was like watching
a duck in water. Making use of the old
utensils and cookware of the hotel kitchen
she made a meal with an eclectic mix
of elements she had pondered over breakfast.
Sauté, mince, sear, season:
these words flowed from her lips
like a second language in time with the
steady chops on the cutting board
and I was mesmerized when she
moved in perfect rhythm from stirring
the mushrooms to flipping the
sweet potato hash into the air;
tasting and adding more olive oil
to marry the idea on her palate to the
reality on the stovetop.

You can’t see it now.
Your eyes have turned from tiny moon rocks
to vast oceans,
a deep blue that doesn’t exist
anywhere else.
You can’t see it now,
but the tide will come in,
the current will shift,
the fog will recede
to reveal that charcoal gray.
And whether you seek me
on the waxing crescents
or leave me on the shore,
you will find someone
to carry your heart.
Words Echo Jan 2011
There’s a place in the furthest corner of darkness
Whose shadows wait patiently for your cries
And upon hearing the sound they dance as if in orbit
Held by the gravity of your chaotic state

They breathe easy when you’re gasping for air
Their arrousal comes directly from your pain
And when you beg and plead for mercy they taunt you
With vivid images of love, life, and longing
Just a super quick poem.

The Day
Words Echo Nov 2010
Let’s lay down and you can hold my hand forever.
Let’s close our eyes and imagine a world together.
You can kiss me on the street of a familiar neighborhood.
You can hug me at your building without wondering if you should.
And I’ll dance with you in a beautiful white dress.
I’ll lose myself in your eyes and you’ll lose all that stress.
You’ll be with me. Who cares who sees?
We’ll shout our love from the tops of trees.
We’ll be completely devoted, no lies anymore.
We’ll kiss openly on the crowded dance floor.
Don’t open your eyes. Please, let’s just stay.
Let’s lay down and wait for that day.
Quickly jotted down in lit class.

That Feeling
Words Echo Nov 2010
i'll never forget that feeling
i hope you remember it too
i'll never forget that feeling
of being in love with you

that music in your laugh
that magic in your eyes
the way it was left unsaid
but it was no surprise

the time you held my hand
the time you said those words
that was the most beautiful sound
i think i've ever heard

and i know it's over now
and i should just let go
but before i do that
i think that you should know

i'll never forget that feeling
i hope you remember it too
i'll never forget that feeling
of being in love with you
one of my early attempts at love poetry.

A Difficult Letter
Words Echo Nov 2010
set your eyes right on the page
scribble out what you need to say
don't mind the tears they'll fade away
just try to write down why "it hurts to stay"

focus on the ink, i know it's blurred
but you can't go yet without being heard
you need to tell them about the pain
"please understand, it's hard to explain"

one page is good but two is better
you've never written this type of letter
you know it's something they deserve to find
"this is all that could be left behind"

put down the pen and sign your name
get it over with before you start placing blame
lift and pull, fall to your knees
"don't ever lose the memories"
super old.

Pathetic
Words Echo Nov 2010
Two beautiful babies laugh and they play.
Two beautiful babies sleeping away.
Two beautiful babies smile and crawl.
Two beautiful babies with no cares at all.

Now two beautiful children cry and they pout.
Now two beautiful children fight and they shout.
Now two beautiful children grow and they grow.
Now two beautiful children who you’ll never know.

Two beautiful people with dreams and with goals.
Two beautiful people with two beautiful souls.
Two beautiful people who you missed growing tall.
Two beautiful people who never loved you at all.

Life Like Shakespeare
Words Echo Nov 2010
I step onto the stage
Like Juliet, like Ophelia, like Desdamona,
But I'm smothered.
Why'd I step out? What is out here for me?
Could this be a tragedy turned comedy?
I can only hope,
Because I'll never know.
I'll never know why or when or what.
And if I never know and if it never turns
Then the three ladies' fate will be mine.

Heat Rises
Words Echo Nov 2010
You scrunch your brow, you're angry -
A fire lights inside.
A jarring sound - you're tensing up
I see it in your eyes.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
I'm a little struck with fear.
Though sometimes I can't help but giggle
And hope that you don't hear.

Adorable despite your mood -
A blessing or a curse?
Thank the heavens, thank the stars,
Thank God I found you first.

What If?
Words Echo Nov 2010
What if they knew?
What if they knew my lips had traveled your body,
Taking your mind to new places?
What if they knew?
What if they knew I cradled you in my arms
When fever ravished your skin?
What if they knew?
What if they knew I listen to your whispers
In the darkest hours of the night?
What if they knew?
What if they knew that you love me?
What if it could change the world?

A Touch
Words Echo Nov 2010
it's just a touch.
her hand on mine,
her lips on mine.
just a touch
to spin the world
the other direction.
a simple momentary
exchange between two
bodies in silence,
in laughter, in tears.
just a touch.
her touch is enough
for a lifetime.
