They say love is ever lasting.
That it sweeps you off your feet.
That it gives you butterflies
And it makes it hard to sleep.

They say love is a drug.
That it's addicting when it hits.
That it makes it hard to be without.
That you'll never truly quit.

I find that to be quite the opposite;
Except the part about the drug.
I only say this because...
Because i have been in love.

Love is a fairy tale with its ending still intact.
Not the happy every after,
But the part that's after that.

It's the part with all the problems.
With the lying and forgetting.
With the last minute birthday gifts.
With the arguing and yelling.

It's the part with the silent treatment.
And with sleeping separated.
And the texts that went unanswered.
And questioning if the spark has truly faded.

No, love isn't everlasting,
But it's a feeling you remember.
And even if the love dies down,
It never dies out but becomes an ember.
Well, you know.
She is my gaping wound
And my tourniquet
An ancient god
When I need modern medicine
She is a thing I happened upon
Who stole the water from the vein
But she isn't the drought
For she is the rain
It took a death
To know of life
Set my love free
Then paid the price

I happened upon a needle
The surrounding hay praised its name
But their god pricked my finger
Now I don't bleed the same
As I once did
Some of the pieces spilled out
And there are not enough jars
In a world filled with lids

She is a song on a deaf ear
A fallen autumn leaf
She is the forest torn to shreds
To make a Christmas wreath
She is my lover and she is my killer
For I was the field and she was the tiller

Behold all that we should happen upon
For that which kills us
May also bring
All we shall know of joy.
not handsome though
luck came my way
she found me out
loved me one day

loved me one day
then one day more
she gave me a place
took me indoor

took me indoor
let me be within
loved me the way
I had never been

I had never been
handsome though
she saw me through
in one go
what's in a look

Cancer took your life

It did not take your name
Nor did it take your fight
Left with us your legacy
We will strive toward sunrise
Living life twice as hard
To honor your absence

Cancer swallowed you

I will watch it regurgitate
The lives of millions
Into the air over our bodies
Letting each one of us
Live in the world
Created by those fallen to your mercy

Cancer *******

You will not let you control my heart
My mind watches you sleep
I will haunt you in your dreams
Each morning I will greet you
Until you give me back what belongs to me
You will reap from your destruction

Her smile is my favorite geometrical anomaly

Mathematicians have yet to discovered a name for it

Expressing sunshine

Solving the issue of yesterdays broken equations

The corners of her lips are the product of perfection

This house is getting heavy
With the silence that surrounds
Silence which has affected me
Silence that brought me down
I try to make this house a home
The home that I used to love
But nothings seems to be working
So I seek help from above

the funny thing about time
is the way it grinds your bones to dust
while they’re still sitting in your flesh

we can all feel it,
we pretend we don’t, but we do

you feel it when you wake up in the morning
having dreamt of your childhood
and the sound of your sister’s laughter is still ringing in your ears

you feel it when you look up from a book
and its not your brother sitting in the chair next to you
but a strange fellow with a deep voice
and a nose that looks remarkably familiar

and strongest of all, you feel it when at the dinner table
your mother asks you what you’ve been up to for the past 18 years

see, the funny thing about time
is the way it grinds your bones to dust
while they’re still sitting in your flesh

just the other night, I pressed my palms together
and I called on a friend I hadn’t seen in awhile,
to ask where he’d been

he told me he’d been spending time with my father
because the man really needed some company
without his oldest son to talk to

oh and while I have you, he said,
your mother called
she told me to tell you
that your bed is made, if you ever want to come home
i sat down to write a poem about anything but love. i guess when you're running from it is when it hits you the hardest.
