My baby's got the weight of the world
carved into her brow and you can see
it for yourself; she cuts her own bangs.

She loves me tall, she loves me thin, she
loves me in what she calls an "Ethiopian way";
you can see it for yourself in the dark corners of
the internet.

She holds the Guinness-certified record for the
highest use of the hashtag "#vegan." I believe
her when she says cheese is the unitary measure
of loneliness. I'm sure you do too.

She used to substitute teach for Cameron Christian.
She'd take selfies with autistic children and some
called her profane and some called her dangerous
but I thought her posts about the effects of vaccinations
made her seem so in touch with the world, so pure in spirit.

And on those slow nights when we're in bed
with the incense hanging above us, between
her considerations of transitioning into a man
and her considerations of starting an alpaca rescue,
I think about how winning the lottery would be
a disappointment.

There was no quiet desperation
in the riotous years of youth,
the grasping search for love and truth.
No, in those days there was no patience
for the faintest scent of dull
routine or rut.  It's just with age
that comfort's found in gilded cage,
no fires to set, and belly full.

Should a technicolor sunrise
strike a quickened spark of phoenix
from the ash of youthful pyres,
hopeful drops for jaded eyes
which, once refreshed, will then be fixed
upon millennial birds of fire.
Grist for the mill, Wisdom.
Tear stained pages
Tear stained pillows
The legacy of my love for you.

Eyes that undress me and devour
that look upon me as a delectable flower

Lips that softly kiss and taste
greedily savoring my sweetness leaving not a trace

Hands that need no prompting or words
they just read my body and thoughts not heard

Arms wrapped tightly around me, skin on skin
making me feel loved on the outside as well as within
I wrote this poem six years ago today and it is still true.  We all need this!! I do not need any gifts for Valentine's Day just love
Happy Valentine's Day HP
I don’t write poetic verse.
My words don’t wear a frilly gown.
When I open wounds that haven’t healed
I touch them gently in an honest way.

I may not make the last words rhyme
But I blossom in the freedom from those chains,
Refusing to be taken where they’d lead me,
Uncovering the feelings in my own way.

Is this a cop-out for lack of skill
Or a well considered choice
To pay attention to the thoughts
And not be tethered by the rhyme.

I have several times been criticized for not rhyming.
I have things posted here that prove I CAN rhyme, but on reading them back to myself, I have to admit they don't say what I want exactly the way I want to say it.  I don't just sit and bang out line after line and post it.  I write with pen and paper and agonize over word choice and flow.  I slave away towards getting across the feeling I want to convey. not in finding a suitable rhyme.
It may be possible to do both.  Robert Frost did. But I don't have that skill.
I still feel my talent is valid.
