darkness
 Jun 2018 Jackie Mead
Anna
i used to stare at the ceiling all night
the darkness never bothered me
after all,
he was my only friend

when i slid razor blades against my
hips
wrists
throat

he was the only one who saw
and he kept my every secret

some people say he is a monster
a deceiver, and a liar

but I disagree

darkness covered me
he smothered my cries in an inescapable embrace

when i woke up on the floor
gasping
the belt around my neck
snapped in half

i knew he must have cut it
after all,

he was the only one there
..and we breathe
begin to oxidise
tears that run to rust
dry on the eyes that see
a boom and then a bust
but
nothing untoward that comes towards me
only Destiny and she's no angel.

People come and go
some I know
some I've known
and now outgrown
childish ways
'not so much
'the good old days'
seen in an alcoholic haze
but
just a phase.

Places
pass or I pass places
faces
wanted posters
more rides on
the roller coasters

what happened to the
brand new?
an engine heading to a fire
two cops sat in the
black Maria and the telephone
boxes that really work

redundancy is the new brand new
and someone knew but it was not me.

the answers we seek
in history, has been taught
time and time again
yet we never learnt

This world taught me very well
How to survive in a prison cell
Retreating in a fleeting moment
From the heavy hand of life’s opponent
Throwing pennies in a well
Even wishes are for sale
And the universe holds a reward
For those who live beyond the sword
Yet beyond the sword remains a fist
To take a swing, who can resist
Whether right or wrong it’s never forgotten
It’s one big race of Johnny Rotten's
The eyes in the mirror would have their say
But I turned my head and walked away
The rage in our heart won’t be silenced
Even if we abstain from a life of violence...

I mean no offence to people named Johnny!
Unless there rotten...

Cné

Laying in bed all day
with silky thoughts
in a champagne haze

An empty glass of water
rests barren on the floor
her eyes light up
as he enters
through the door

With every stride
across the room
whispered lyrics
begin to bloom
In an encore
from the night before
in her memories
now begins
a brand new score

Thrums echo
as the rythmn keeps
time inside each beat
slight murmurs crescendo
and a long symphonic
overture erupts

He draws his notes
in the cream of her curves
Dismantling her inhibitions
soothing her nerves

Tongues in a waltz
senerading to thunderous beats
in a rhythm more shattering
than the rolling waves of the Sea

Lights flicker
as his eyes roll
visions  of grandeur
in tow breathless
they gasp for air
not wanting this moment
to soon disappear

Driving urgency tenderly drizzle
ending one where the other begins
melting in the stillness
of tangled bodies and limp limbs
