You are in your box
tucked away in thought
a present to be opened
from someone who
I don't want to know me

You didn't write, you didn't call
I have no envelope, no letter
nothing to savor your touch
I look around this home
where you drifted around
I made you ethereal
I made you fake

You never lied, never lost
where you tried so hard
did you plan for this?
you wanted to trust
I only hiss and bite

Afloat, bouncing along
protected by the bottle
corked, dry, and safe
pulled this way
and that

You kept me safe
but I broke the jar
I broke the glass
Free now
but without a laugh
I can't see land
I can't have hope

scoop me up
take me back
ignore my rage
my words of hate
I'm so scared
fear and lost

I mocked you
Gave you shame
I didn't deserve you
Taught you love
And took it
crumpling
your ink

The evening slips away
like fireflies through fingers.
Your eyes turn from the color of sand at twilight
to the indigo-blue of the ocean at night.

Our easy laughter sinks into
soft whispers
as the sky shifts from peach blossoms
to hushed velvet black.

Your touch is no longer just soothing warmth.
I can feel the buzz of electricity
when your hand hovers nearer.

As stars replace the sun and those
lyrical night insects relieve the birds,
my heart changes rhythm to match your own.

Soon, the moon dangles overhead
and we run out of words at last,
our still lips meeting with sparks
that set the night ablaze.

As we lie dying
the little death,
pull me close
beneath your chin
and hold me tight.
Breathe me in,
feel my heat,
wear me warm
like a well worn blanket.
I will weave you a dream
of dyed wool, desert moons
and a Paiute wind.
I'll dream us through
this long night.
Wrap yourself in me
and rest easy.
Breathe me in,
sleep in me, wear me
like you need to.
And when you awake
I'll still be here
like the desert moon
in a Paiute wind.

what a silly duffer
I am
yesterday afternoon
I put a set of keys down
when I went back to collect them
they'd decamped
that location
I've sent prayers
to Saint Anthony
asking him
to assist me
in finding my keys
he must be on vacation somewhere
as yet he hasn't answered my prayers
if the keys don't turn up
soon
they'll of made me
look like a
goon
I bet they are playing
a game
of hide and seek
so I'll be searching
for another week
tis most frustrating
when keys can't be found
maybe they've gone to ground
in the indigo skies
above the peaceful lake
flew an alabaster swan
she coursed a furrow
through the thermal air
her wings fluttering
in graceful decorum
as eve shadows
fell upon the lake
she rested neath
a weeping willow's branch
for there
she'd be enfolded
in the moon's luminous light
as the stars did sprinkle
their glinting sparkles
over the lake's glass surface
as the break of the morrow's
brilliant blue sight
came
her wings did rise
to take of flight again
