The Nightingale sings as she looks through her busy windows

The white Storks are nursing from bed to bed
While the upright Otter checks clipboard to clipboard
As busy Beavers wipe everything down keeping all safe
Under the gaze of the wise old Owl hooting with pride at her team
The nutty Squirrels dish out their tightly guarded stash
Security Badgers stands firm protecting their brood
While the happy Hare dashes here and there bringing in the sick

And the People wait

Happy Easter
She moved her hands slowly
I pretended not to notice
The tension rose
as my heart rate soared

I could feel her concentration
waiting for the right moment

I was waiting, trembling
at the thought

She moved, I reacted.
She screamed with joy

I reacted, to slow
She stole my chocolate bunny
and devoured it
in one gulp.

Luckily,
she bought me

Perfect Day
The warm sun on your face
                                         And a big blue sky

The smell of freshly baked bread
                                         Just floating by

A glass of wine on the table
                                        With a dear old friend

A day of peace and love
                                    Never wanting it to end

Every Cloud
The sun shone today
The first time this spring
The gardeners get busy
So, the Robins sing

Bulbs break through the earth
In soldier formation
I have time to behold
Is it because, I’m in isolation?

Say it or lose it
My head is on fire
My eyes are steamed up
My coffees cold
In a paper cup

I’ve been thinking and thinking
For hours at a time
Decisions stay silent
No further down the line

A deep breath is taken
I’m poised to break through
What I’m tying to say is
I love you

Careful What you Wish for
As he cast a lucky penny out into the sea, and wished,
it caught a wave and drifted down to the bottom.
Alert as always, the impact was seen by a hungry small fish
gulping up debris and food alike.

Its silver flash caught in the eye of predator who swallowed
it whole, now, with craving taste buds it spied a worm,
dangling in mid depth.
With one swish of its tail it flew to the surface,
dangling in mid air.

The fisherman smiled at such a prize, packed it in ice and sent it on
Its way to a local restaurant, to be dressed in
the finest salad, pride and place.

Feeling peckish after his walk on the sandy shore, the lucky penny thrower spied the mouth watering fish, napkin, knife and fork at the ready, quickly tucked in.

As the tender meat slowly slid down the back of is throat, so did the lucky penny.
He keeled over and died.

The moral of the story is.

There is no such thing as a Lucky Penny.
If there was why would you throw it away.

Today or maybe tomorrow
The Eastern world it is exploding,
cinders blowing in the wind, glowing at the rising sun.

To the sound of silence screaming its pain at the emptiness,
that was once our pride.

I gaze beyond the raging sea,
as the darkness comes and signals the end of our time.

On the eve of our destruction,
poets still write words that no one will hear, of love, life and Armageddon

Our light fades as the pen reaches the end of the page.
The book is closed.

Just a Dream
A barren field covered with snow
I walked and walked, where did I go

I turned, looked back, a feeling of woe
I could see not footprints in the snow

I walked back the way I'd came
Nothing looked quite the same

I turned, looked back to where I'd been
No sign of footprints could be seen

Then I remembered
It was
Just a dream

Dearly Beloved
As I read your name
                           I wonder why
There are rolling white clouds in a big blue sky

As I read your name
                           It makes me smile
The walks we had down that long country mile

As I read your name
                            I start to cry
You said you'd never leave and I wonder why

As I read your name
                     I'm filled with pain
and wonder when we'll meet again

As they read our names

Death knocked, I answered
I will pause for a while
                                 To catch my breath
Let me lie in the grass and be still

I will dream of my love
Of a life that has run
How lucky I crossed that path

The life that I had
Is the life that we had
But to share it with you I was blest

When I awake
I will smile at the sun
And admire what god has begun

Then I’ll wait by the gate
For when your days are run
And we’ll lie in the grass and be still

Thoughtfully thinking
I lost you in my thoughts
as I lose myself, thinking
Then I found what I was looking for
and you were gone
Thoughtfully, you left me a note
of what I've lost

The life that I have
The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours.

The love that I have
Or the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.

A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause.

For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.

Once upon a time
Snowflakes fall
past the dimly lit windows
of the wide eyed
children
Looking deep
into the darkened sky
for a sign

The gathered clouds part
and a star shines through
with the news
a baby is born this night
the children snuggle in their beds
dreaming of

That’s life
I hear death
At my door
Rattling
A thousand keys
Trying each one
Lady luck
Don’t desert
Me
Now

My life
My loves
My mistakes
My successes
My happiness
Mingle with
Regret
As
My future
Stares me
In the eyes

The lock clicks
Tumblers’
Falling
Into place
Hinges groan
A cold breeze
Brushes
My face

Loving Strangers
Young winters merge in to summer sun
The wind stirs the dust of lust
Our love caught in time
Spinning
Loving strangers

Years pass
Our acorns have grown to trees
We loved and lived that life
Changing with every breath we take
Seasons from the passing years
Laying out our winter clothes
Still here we are

Loving strangers

Now we are old the winters
Bite in the dark depths
But summer smiles and old bones thawed
Strangers fall in love once more
Slaves to the moon
We’ll meet at the shores edge
Forever and ever

Loving strangers

Buy a new doormat
I rang the door bell and stood for a while
I saw the spy hole light up and gave it a smile

The door stayed silent the lights still dim
The silence was eerie as if you weren’t in

On the wall watching was a black and white cat
Who pointed at the "welcome" on your lying doormat
The scent of the flower matched her ice blue eyes
As the silk petals brushed my thighs

Beautiful colouring to attract the bee
I Taste the nectar brought home to me

Her lips brushed my face as I bowed for one last smell
Her secret is mine I will not tell

Winter is coming!
The wind whispered to the trees
Who sent messages in fallen leaves

The bluebell rang out the alarm
And the rabbits burrowed out of harm

The birds carried the message on a wing
Then the forest fell asleep until the spring
Thank you for bringing back to life a 2019 poem.

A moment I missed
I remember the time I was sat on your bed
The warmth of my lap as I cradle your head
The things that I thought, I wish I’d have said

Now I look out my window as I’m sat on my bed
Elbows on knees as I cradle my head
And wonder what you’d have thought about the things I never said

My mind fears them
But, I'm yours

The Lady of Sker House
Surfers shout and roll in on waves
Gulls scream and float on the wind
As the mist blows in silently and blanks out the sun
The curtains in Sker house shiver at the cold wind
Rushing the mist across shore, rocks and walkers
The sight hounds become agitated as the mist moves over them
Limiting their protection

The wind dies
The surf lays still
The gulls roost quietly
The surfers foot prints run through the sand
The sight hounds are blind

The doors at Sker house are open

Walkers walk quickly back the way they came
Peripheries dancing left, right, back and forth

The lady of Sker, watching, waiting

Surf crashes the drying rocks
The sun breaks
Walkers smile
Boards are floated
Gulls scream
The sight hounds look, teeth bared
In the direction of Sker house

Curtains closed
For now
A ghost story and true.

Time for peace
Do not go gentle until this goodnight
Rage at the battles you must fight
Deliver the lost souls to see the light
Rage, Rage, Rage with all your might

Then when your goodnight comes in sight
Pass your rage to those who have seen the light
They will take the baton and carry the fight
Go gentle in peace to your goodnight

Then when called, speak gentle if you might
For all the peace lovers, who carry the fight
Their banners and gathering will be a sight
As they turn lost souls gently to the light

So they can go gently into their goodnight

A message from the stars
Hey!  Bright star we saw before us
Is now dimmed, we feel your pain
You were the brightest among us
Now flickering slowly s as you wane

Your life is finely balanced
Not much time left for your kind
Gluttony has darkened your path
Decadence has made you blind

You have the chance heal this
Take steps to rectify
Or the future is irreversible
As slowly we watch you die

Who is left among you?
Grasp the nettle, heal your scars
Inspiration is there, eyes open
Look up! Look up to the stars

Our ?? Who art in ??
I found myself praying
But I’m not sure to who?
I revealed all my secrets
                                       But what could you do?
I waited and waited
                                  For heavens thunderous reply
My letter on the door step
Please I don’t want to die
The words that were written
                             Filled me with wondrous relief
You answered my prayer
                                           And renewed my belief
I will make time for religion
                                            I want you to know
Not once, not twice, three times
                                            I heard the **** crow

Rain
Rain fell ,rolled off the tip of my nose
I tasted the sweat off my skin
headlights brushed across my face
Eye's fixed pupils dilating
Door opened, you walked head bowed
Guarded from the rain
He looked through the curtains
You hurried out of view
Our eyes met
The light dimmed

Who has got this right?
The sun shines through the window
Another bright and sunny day
The dog smiles at you lovingly
The cat shouts come this way

They lick their dishes clean and toddle of to bed
The cat looks at the dog "I think we got it right" he said
Chores done I rush to shower I'm not one to shirk
I think "I got it wrong" as I toddle off to work

The cuckoo call
Lock the windows tightly
So the thief can’t get inside
Five small eggs need protecting
No corners here to hide

Stay safe I call, I have to leave
To gather moss for our thatch
To keep our home secure and warm
To help you all to hatch

Just three of you left waiting
Two large and just one small
My eyes fill with tears
When I hear the cuckoo call

Just breath
Death held me for a moment
I tumbled
Further and further I fell

Watching you as the dark descended

Your loving eyes awoke me
And dragged my back

With a gasp lasting moments
My eyes alight once more
Do you ever forget to breath?

I threw it away
I finished my drink on a hot summer’s day
The container all spent, I threw it away
While walking the beach on a hot summer’s day
The container all spent came back the very next day

Amused at my find on that hot summer’s day
No use for anything, so I threw it away
Children were watching, ecological they say
So I collected the ******* I’d just throw away

Watching me closely on a day they’d normally play
I carried my container I’d once threw away
I placed it in a bin where it will now lay
Then turned to the children who were now busy at play

Then I spied a young person on that hot summer’s day
With an empty container he was about to throw away
I drew in my breath and was about loudly to say
But he walked up to the bin and that’s were it will now lay

So I’ll follow the code of my new ecological way
When my container is spent, I’ll not throw it away

What about you?

The mountain spring
The cycle of water is parallel to time. Your life, your death,
your rebirth

The time it takes for the tiny
Seep to slowly become a mountain spring

A spring to become a babbling brook
A brook to create a flowing stream

A stream speedily racing into a river
A river raging into the sea

A sea engulfed by the world’s oceans of time

Currents pushing you to places you’ve never seen
Waiting for evaporation to draw you up into the clouds

Gathering high above hills and mountains
Falling as rain seeping deep under ground
Waiting

Life is the mountain spring encouraging you forward to begin
your journey

Death is the oceans waiting for the clouds to gather you up and restart your journey again

Shadows of the evening
The garden is yawning
The slabs need a clean
The weeds are still sleeping
Just waiting to be seen

The shed is still standing
Held together by a strand
The plant pots are tight together
Early daffs rising hand in hand

The fish are just waiting
In the still ripple less lake
The frogs with one eye open
Not quite fully awake

The people are smiling
As the sun shows its face
Spring is around the corner
As the garden gathers pace
brush of your cobwebs

Say it before it's to late
Is there someone
you know,
Your loving them
so,
But taking them all
for granted?
You may lose them
one day
Someone takes them
away,
And they don't hear
the words
you long to say

Out in the fresh air
In the parks cold outdoor winter cafe
Huddled to my cardboard cup
Of hot Americano coffee
I sit and just watch

The dogs bark
The people walk
The joggers jog, grim faced
And a man skis, on wheels

The wind blows through the trees
Void of leaves
With the views of castle and city
Grey and sleeping

A squirrel
Sifts through the blanket of leaves
Watched by the lone Magpie
I salute him

I take another sip

Could be, a happy new year?
The hours slip away from a year to forget
Opportunities missed, said things I regret
Pondered decisions lost in the mist
Wonderful people relationships missed

I’ll fight for my right, I’ll fight to win
If we meet again ask that question anew
I’ll ponder no more; I’ll just say I do

Did you know if you fall asleep
in the quiet of the  wood
A fairy will look over you
but only if you’ve been good

She’ll cover you in fairy dust
and make you disappear
She can sense vibration in the ground
those naughty elves are here

They can smell your sent and feel your breath
they know you are quite near
Be quiet now lay silent
there is nothing here to fear

The elves are gone but they’ll be back
run run run please don't wait
I’ll watch over you till the edge of the wood
and to your garden gate

A snowy Christmas Eve
The whippet stoops low with snow on its snout
He sniffs the air, is Christmas about?

Red robin sits perched singing rousing Christmas carols
Of reindeer's, snowmen and mulled wine in oak barrels

A squirrel stands alert guarding a great Christmas sack
Full of presents for Christmas that he had to pack

And the cat can be found baking a rich Christmas cake
Waiting for Christmas to arrive, when the children awake

Then they all settle down in their warm Christmas house
And sleep until spring like a tired dormouse
Merry Christmas Everyone.
