Be the change
Like a bird in a cage
That mimics your words
Your anger, your rage

Be the change
That harnesses light
That does what is right
That stands up and fights
For those who can not

Be the change
With outrage and scorn
Since the day they were born
For the families that mourn
For the bodies grown cold

Be the change
That lets people breathe
When they beg and they plead
While seeing a need
From the powers that be

Be the change
That’s taken a stance
When given the chance
At the blink of an eye
At the very first glance

Be the change
That protects and provides
The right for our lives
No matter the tribe
Be a leader of men

Be the change
For those who cannot
That sour and rot
Each day in one spot
From fear they’ll be shot

Be the change
Devoid of all sin
That triumph and win
What they start or begin
Not judged by the color of skin

Be the change
Is a birthday a birthday without
A celebration
A child of God on his creation

Is a birthday a birthday without
A cake
The sweet smell plus the time it took to make

Is a birthday a birthday without
Blowing out candles hot dripping wax
57 candles fire to the max

is a birthday a birthday without
Singing the song
A sadness lingered all day long

it a birthday a birthday without
A friend to share it with
Or are all these reasons just a myth

Pouring Rain   fierce winds   rocked my car
I walked the mall
Beauty Salon straighten my hair
No one to notice or care
shopped
Victoria Secrets, things I did not need but made me smile
The happness only lasted a short while
Sees candy, picked out my favorite kind
Still sad loneliness on my mind
Bed bath and beyond; rosewater candles
Surely the scent would cheer my mood
Perhaps
Chinese’s food
wonton soup and *** stickers To take home
Painful knee ended my time to roam
Reading comments,well wishers who
remembered my Birthday
I’m done celebrating now
ready for it to go away

Text messages Facebook too
I wish I understood I wish I knew
Why I feel this way
Tomorrow
will be
a bright
new day
Not sure why I feel this wat I spent my birthday alone
Many kids go to wild and exotic
Ports of call
Some do nothing at all
My grandson made a choice
He wanted to help use more then his voice

My middle grandson is my  sweet honey
He called for help for money
He was going to Mexico with the church youth group
To rebuild three houses to help families recoup

This trip wasn’t free
there was a fee
Five hundred dollars each
They were not just sitting on the beach

The week is done
The church made work fun
But more importantly
Families gained stability

The choices the youth make
Will be remember values resonate
My grandson walks a little taller
He gave more then just a dollar

He gave love
I’m so proud of my 15 year old grandson and his involvement in the church
There are times in life
When
You are silent
Yet
The words are working
Themselves
Out
Until the day
You
Can set them
Free
The deeper the issues
The longer
the
Silence
I’m not ready
Yet
I’m here
Breathing, hurting
Taking a pause
.

For the first born of the family,
For the one who led the stock,
For the first born who a set the bar high,
For the naughty siblings to try,
For the first born who taught us to smile,
On all occasions big or trifle,
For the first born who cared for all,
Be it elders or small,
For the first born who have a naughty chuckle,
Always filled with mischief and tickle,
For the first born who full- filled our wishes,
No matter the extent of dreams we dreamt,
You, the first born had done it all,
That a elder sibling can ever do!

Here's a direct wish from heart,
For the first born of the house,
With whom were born Mom and Dad,
Who created Uncles and Aunts,
Who made the Grand parents proud to be called by their names,

A wish for a sweet happy birthday,
A wish for good health and joy,
A wish for name, fame, success and shine,
May all your wishes come true with time.

Happy birthday dear eldest,
Happy birthday dear sister!
Love you loads,

Love you always for everything you did.

It's snowing covid
We've all had to take shelter from the storm.

We're wearing gloves & masks
As if it were freezing cold
We can see everyone's breath
Friends lovers strangers
Our own
carrying death.

Dangerous to go to the store
Apocalyptic vibes

We're like magnets staying polar opposites
pinballing around the room
To avoid each other

Total intimacy
Total isolation
Perfect relationships for the 21st Century
Everything's slowed down
Tahoe blue skies
Carbon ****** away
Coyotes running through the streets
The whole planet on furlough
Creative projects
Free at last
The agoraphobics *******
Rich in time
Poor in money
We're reminded once again
Nature bats last.

Ever since it started snowing covid.

Where we're going from here,
We don't know
Wishful thinking
Careful planning
It's all in the cellular snow
And it just keeps on snowing
its been said before
The one thing we do know
There's a bad moon on the rise
But
The seasons come and go
Wars they come and go
And the snow eventually blows away with the winds.
(Or at least when the vaccine blows in).

"Bad Moon Rising" John Fogerty, 1969
my grievous faults
————————-

~for SJR1000~

the sun is out after a week of island fog,
(different from regular citified fogginess)
days seasoned with rapacious, hard hitting
all-night-long-rains, steady winds of
fifteen miles per hour, made “outside”unattractive,
yet, even now, sun inside with me, writing you

listening to Tupelo Honey, sets me awondering,
have you figured out how people work,
uncovered the source of human misery,
so we can get that vaccine asap, for something
a 1000 times more deadly than coronavirus?

my grievous faults, many, well catalogued,
but one of the chiefest is a side effect of a
virulent ego that cuts off vision, thoughtfulness,
letting good people slip away, and when called out,
I’m aggrieved, my faults, they wicked, embarrassing

so I’m asking, you, myself, anybody else, eavesdropping,
if this is true, for me, for you, you got the experience, if

”It don't make no difference
Escaping one last time
It's easier to believe in this sweet madness
Oh, this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees”
^

write me, enlighten me, and if the answers are
still a fugitive escaping, no matter, just way it is,
no pressure other than the sixteen tons of mining
life’s coal dust vicissitudes, its mysterious way of tilting
the scales, then escaping, side venting, through poetry
