this is where it was always leading
this parting of the ways, this fleeing
from the sore shots of life's arrows
it was always coming, this pulling
asunder in the glow of a last twilight
so fare thee well my friend and foe
you who slew my hopes and dreams
and made sure there were no streams
to cool my burning soul and quench
this horrible thirst that still persists
i hunger for the warmth you exuded
and thirst for that temperate streak in you,
a virtue now so rare and dear in this world
most are well-schooled in shameless artifice
so here now i sit in this elevated oblivion
watching you melt into the unkind distance
fare thee well, my spring and my nemesis
i shall in time learn to want nothing gone
I have fine-tuned this poem and I feel that it's now tighter and much closer to what I want. There is a sense in which in all true art we always fall short of the target, the more to strive, therefore.

a salty treason made of tears
betraying her subtly for the tender heart she has
as she counted souls on the road to perdition
she asked that they all spare an ounce of paint
so she could wrest a better image for herself in
the fashion magazines
lovely she lay wrapped in the golden glow of sunlight
expressing all of her hopeful dreams
that others would have left littering the road to redemption
lovely she inked herself into the trending news
and spread a carpet of rose petals for her to lay on
waiting for rescue
we are all lovely on the road to perdition
we all dream big dreams of where we always hoped to be
we all paint our loves on our sleeves
in brilliant colors
never expecting the tears
never wanting a salty treason

in a cathedral of my own making
i am dust basked in sun light
with hands stretched out
to love the pillars
that have held me up
when the stained glass windows
were celebrated for the
light they let in
and the most divine part of me
the cracks of my temple at
the bottom of my spine were
left to widen like horizons
begging to be spread farther
were left like myths untold
but all the stories are true
and the smallest parts of me
are not fables and myths
left to keep your imagination
alive and you afloat
the smallest parts of me
are particles that have
held me up longer
than you have
and i may be alone
just as many of us are
but who has time to
count a star
when astronomers count
galaxies on the tips of their fingers
and i am but an atom of the universe
just as we all are

The fog lay dancing on the water, hiding the horizon
Resembling a brief encounter with an old friend
The sun's rays rest gently on the shore like a fleeting romance
Just as your words press easy on my heart, relishing the reminder of finer days.
Holding the moment...the memory..

in dreams, her heels dig into the soft overlap
between ocean and beach, an underbelly
she ebbs and flows to phantom melodies
          of spectral murmurs, un-broken.

she is adrift, with the liberation of seabirds
          amidst salty, swirling sea breezes
all gradients of blues poured over ice,
and the cocktail of fluttering wings,     beating, pumping

                                  like an undamaged heart.
