She gave love a fair chance,
he took it for granted.
She believed in every word he said,
he lied to her all along.
She promised to stay with him,
he left her saying it's over.
She didn't know how to react,
he couldn't care less now.
She told herself to be strong,
he belonged to her past.
She stood firm, shining in the dark like a lighthouse,
he was just a boat that passed by.
β€œLighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save; they just stand there shining.”
― Anne Lamott
