A beautiful butterfly you were
as all watched you from a far
standing by scented embers
with drug impaired eyes,
following by sips of red wine
at that given moment
you looked unsure of yourself
but all were so happy to offer their help...

Your tight hip-hugger pants
slid over your form
not a thing was wrong
could anyone see
oh how I wish I was you
on that rainy day..

Then one day, as years went by
you seemed so lost as I spied you far away
your hair seemed disheveled
your tears ran down lined pale face
the air didn't change as you floated around
like it did many moons before
my heart went to you
as I saw all the distressed...

Dear sister what happened?
did you fall on ill health
did your love fall by the wayside
did it break your heart?
The shadow is closing
a touch of loss still spoke
you murmured so softly
that not many days were
left to live much less pray....

This is for all us butterflies and our best friends in high school.. when we wanted to be them, and then years later when we see them they look so hard and afraid from all the drugs and hurt they had been through.
