A painful sight are the city lights
As it forcefully reminds me
The memories of long before
Of an innocent time of glee
Were those few days and nights
With love, so much love I loved thee

Those days I loved could be counted
Those days I loved showed me
The sands of time unforgiving
How quickly I lost thee
I wish I could have time extended
For a few, few more short days with me

I have cut my love with hurt
So deep no one could see
I thought all hope was lost
But one day my love gave me
Actions of sweet forgiveness
Of my ignorance, ignorant actions and me

In a sweet short paramour we fled
That was used to escape reality
It was chasing us close by
To destroy the fantasy
But I could not give up my love
My sweet secret love, my sweet love oh thee

I cared nothing for the results
As long as I had my sweet love with me
Of the responsibility and lies
That were growing attached to me
But I had to see the light
The bright light, the light I denied to see

They say if you love someone
You're willing to set them free
To chase their dreams and goals
Wherever it may be
I too needed some time
To be me, just only me

Possibly in another time
Or in another life maybe,
That we would be together
Happily ever after are we
Or it could just be that never
I and my love are meant to be
a sonnet loosely in the style of Edgar Allan Poe
