The remnants of the past
Are like pieces of broken glass
You try to avoid
But step on, once in awhile
Then the memories come

They come,
when you‘re singing a happy song in the shower
And it suddenly changes to a sad tune

They come,
when you’re walking alone at night
And you just suddenly slow in pace

They come,
when you’re out with friends,
And you suddenly turn quiet

They come,
when you least expect it, when you’re smiling with no care in the world

You don’t choose when they come
but they do
and you let them flow
until there’s little to none of them
that remains inside of you
They come, every once in awhile, but I’m getting there. I’m getting better
