My sister told me a story,
Her best friend confessed his love,
And just like that they were no longer friends.

I could hear it in her voice,
How she wished he'd said nothing
For nothing would ever be the same.

I could feel my throat swell
Shame rearing it's head,
I fell silent as I listened to her speak
Only now understanding what I had thrown away,
Only now seeing how you must have felt.

My sister told me a story...
I wish I had not given you the same one.
