Once, I saw a tree breathe.
Her leaves were scorched
by drought and the hot August breeze~
the bark crumbling off where
ants were taking advantage~
their mandibles stinging into
the white flesh beneath
I began spraying her
with water when, without thinking,
I heard myself speak audibly,
'There now, I hope that makes you feel better."
when then the frequency of
our energies became combined
in rhythmic communication
The lines began to blur between
being human and being tree~
just then a bird landed on us,
and we were three!
Our community superseding individuality
