I lift the kohl stick to my eyes
I remember the first time we met

I draw the line carefully, my hands steady
I remember the taste of you

I sweep blush on my cheekbones
I remember the way your skin felt against mine

I look down, carefully comb my lashes with mascara
I remember how you kissed the inside of my wrist

I line my lips with pencil
I remember the sun on my skin when we laughed in your car

I stain my lips plum
I remember how you sang in the shower

I spritz perfume behind my ears
I remember the muskiness of your scent

I slide on my sandals
I remember how you lifted me off my feet

I pick up my purse and look at myself in the mirror
It’s time to start forgetting
