but this ache from missing you

lay awake at night
looking through the curtains

as the moonlight spills in
and amplifies
the sounds of our home
settling around us
as you snore
and warm me with
your body heat?

Did you know that I
have a scratchy throat
when we wake up
early and that
I drink my morning coffee
because it soothes
the ache and not
because I have to
have it?

Did you know that I
love you so much that
I leave the curtain open
even on the mornings
when the sunlight
wakes me up and
burns my throat and
I know we don't have
any coffee cream?

Used to be magic, hocus pocus
Now I’m just sitting with life out of focus
Never getting the full shot just a blurry face
Running out of film and simply taking up space
Better tech becoming more and more relevant
Meanwhile I’m still just stuck here sitting in development
The stress here and there is smudging the view
I’m not quite able to get that good side of you
Try to get the pic but it’s gone before the flash
Just wasting away that film, burning it into ash
The shutter is merely going too fast
Never going to get that photo to last
Once used for happy memories now lies dormant in dust
Easy to be forgotten about and left out to be consumed by rust

What a shame that you thought the others and I were just the same.
