Seven minutes in heaven
A game kids use to play
I got my turn one warm summer day
It was meant as a joke
Just kids being mean
Sweet Susie Cooper
When I was only thirteen
I felt sorry for her, locked in a closet with me
The geek, the dork, full of anxiety
Six long minutes together
Alone in the dark
Then from out of nowhere I felt a spark
Just before the door opened
Sweet Susie, She kissed me
And broke my heart
The heart has laws
that transcend those
of the highest courts
and leave the latter's in woeful throes.
He stood by
my cradle
And followed
my hearse
Unlocking
two portals
Both blessing
— and curse

(Dreamsleep: November, 2024)
Today
I decided
not to rhyme

The words
in volleys
poorly formed

Predicates
outcast
covers smashed

Their accents
bouncing
meanings lost

Today
I decided
not to rhyme

Appeasing
some
beyond the fence

Connections
broken
  phrases served

Playing tennis
without
— a net

(The New Room: November, 2024)
I stepped back
into the corridor of the past
'You aren't welcome!'
(It sternly reprimanded!)

  You've your own life
  mine too I've crafted
at different directions we now look
  we should best stay parted

for nothing do I owe you
   though me you once commanded
   from your chain I've broken
   all your obstacles I've circumvented-

don't you come this way again
   I'll have you relentlessly stranded
you might hold me in my thought
but I don't want to be remembered!"
IN THE DEEP MIDWINTER

the fox pauses

a paw
left in mid air

resting upon
a clump of darkness

the fox listens intently
the countryside listens to the fox's
listening

a stillness fall
upon all
a snail stops mid wall

nothing moves
the fox's eye glistens
the world holds its breath

the fox trots
as if in a dream
across countryside that's never been

my face reflected
in the diorama
the museum closing for the night
